Book excerpt: A mosaic is not about one piece. Its the accumulation of pieces that make the entire depiction. Marriage is a mosaic. Every day, every moment, new pieces come together to help form a greater, more beautiful image. In Mosaic Marriage, author and pastor David Barringer offers a collection of memoirs and thoughts about marriage and relationships, some of them reprinted from his blog. He shares his ideas about building a strong marriage using personal anecdotes and many Biblical examples to provide a guide for those seeking insight and wisdom about their marital relationship. Each chapter provides a thought for a day and a challenge to work on. Barringer tells how there is nothing perfect about marriage; it is full of flaws and issues. But when its put together in a covenant with God, a beautiful picture comes into focus. Mosaic Marriage serves to assist, encourage, and build up marriages and soon-to-be marriages. Its the guide to help bring broken pieces into one complete marriage.

Book Synopsis Marriage in the Book of Tobit by : Geoffrey David Miller
Download or read book Marriage in the Book of Tobit written by Geoffrey David Miller and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-05-26 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apart from Genesis, Tobit contains more information about marriage than any other biblical book. It reflects third-century beliefs and customs yet also serves a didactic function, teaching Diaspora Jews what they should value in their own marriages. This monograph elucidates these elements by asking four questions: 1) Whom should one marry? 2) How does one get married? 3) What role does God play in marriage? 4) What do actual marriages look like? By contextualizing Tobit in light of the Old Testament and relevant Ancient Near Eastern texts, one can appreciate the book's unique claims. Endogamy is defined more narrowly than in other Old Testament texts as Israelites are now enjoined to marry close relatives. Monetary matters such as the payment of the bride-price are downplayed, while adherence to the Mosaic Law is emphasized in the marriage contract and the wedding ceremony. Furthermore, intertextual links with Genesis 24 cast Tobiah and Sarah as founders of a "new Israel", showing that God becomes involved in their marriage so that the nation of Israel will not die out. Finally, the author's portrayal of three married couples in the book reveals much about gender roles and also creates a realistic portrait of the marital relationship in terms of communication, cooperation, and conflict.

Book Synopsis Marriage Meetings for Lasting Love by : Marcia Naomi Berger
Download or read book Marriage Meetings for Lasting Love written by Marcia Naomi Berger and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most couples — because they watch so many of their peers divorce and are themselves the products of failed marriages — don't have many successful long-term-relationship role models. Parenting and communication issues are perennial, while some challenges, like increasingly 24-7 work lives and economic hardships, mark the current decade. Despite all this, psychotherapist and clinical social worker Marcia Naomi Berger asserts that most couples can make love last — they just need to learn how. Berger answers this need with a deceptively simple prescription: have an interruption-free thirty-minute (or even shorter) meeting each week and follow an agenda that includes the kind of appreciation and planning for fun that foster intimacy and pave the way for collaborative conflict resolution. Berger has refined these techniques while working with hundreds of couples — with results that are both practical and profound.

Download or read book Marriages Designed In Heaven written by Gaylon West and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-01-18 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of marriage is a timely subject. The Bible simply defines marriage as "a man takes a woman." Happiness and well-being in marriage is based on a specific design. This design along with society's mores, civil government expectations, and ecclesiastical laws and fantasies are addressed. Jesus' message is compared and/or contrasted with Moses, the Prophets, the Pharisees, the Apostles, and Medieval church leaders. Over 40 translations of the Bible were consulted in addition to comparing the ancient Hebrew with its Greek equivalents through interlinears, word studies, lexicons, dictionaries, textual variants, and scholastic articles and comments. The appendix gives the history of Christendom's changing positions on marriage, divorce, and remarriage.
