Book Synopsis Reefs and Carbonate Platforms in the Pacific and Indian Oceans by : G. F. Camoin
Download or read book Reefs and Carbonate Platforms in the Pacific and Indian Oceans written by G. F. Camoin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-15 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IAS Special Publication #27 contains 17 of the papers presented at the IAS International Workshop on Reefs and Carbonate platforms in the Pacific and Indian oceans held in Sydney (July 1995). This is the first book to summarize the current state of knowledge about reefs and carbonate platforms in these oceans, where there is a great diversity of carbonate systems in various tectonic settings. Papers concern both processes operating in reefs and carbonate platforms and case histories (platform and oceanic reef case histories). Case histories range from the Lower Cretaceous to modern reefs and most fossil carbonate platforms concern outcomes from recent ODP legs in the Pacific. The book covers a broad spectrum of disciplines related to carbonate geology: sedimentology, geochemistry, geophysics, reef ecology and modeling. Book Synopsis Carbonate Reservoirs by : Clyde H. Moore
Download or read book Carbonate Reservoirs written by Clyde H. Moore and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-08-12 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2nd Edition of Carbonate Reservoirs aims to educate graduate students and industry professionals on the complexities of porosity evolution in carbonate reservoirs. In the intervening 12 years since the first edition, there have been numerous studies of value published that need to be recognized and incorporated in the topics discussed. A chapter on the impact of global tectonics and biological evolution on the carbonate system has been added to emphasize the effects of global earth processes and the changing nature of life on earth through Phanerozoic time on all aspects of the carbonate system. The centerpiece of this chapter—and easily the most important synthesis of carbonate concepts developed since the 2001 edition—is the discussion of the CATT hypothesis, an integrated global database bringing together stratigraphy, tectonics, global climate, oceanic geochemistry, carbonate platform characteristics, and biologic evolution in a common time framework. Another new chapter concerns naturally fractured carbonates, a subject of increasing importance, given recent technological developments in 3D seismic, reservoir modeling, and reservoir production techniques. - Detailed porosity classifications schemes for easy comparison - Overview of the carbonate sedimentologic system - Case studies to blend theory and practice
Book Synopsis Seismic Characterization of Carbonate Platforms and Reservoirs by : J. Hendry
Download or read book Seismic Characterization of Carbonate Platforms and Reservoirs written by J. Hendry and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern seismic data have become an essential toolkit for studying carbonate platforms and reservoirs in impressive detail. Whilst driven primarily by oil and gas exploration and development, data sharing and collaboration are delivering fundamental geological knowledge on carbonate systems, revealing platform geomorphologies and how their evolution on millennial time scales, as well as kilometric length scales, was forced by long-term eustatic, oceanographic or tectonic factors. Quantitative interrogation of modern seismic attributes in carbonate reservoirs permits flow units and barriers arising from depositional and diagenetic processes to be imaged and extrapolated between wells. This volume reviews the variety of carbonate platform and reservoir characteristics that can be interpreted from modern seismic data, illustrating the benefits of creative interaction between geophysical and carbonate geological experts at all stages of a seismic campaign. Papers cover carbonate exploration, including the uniquely challenging South Atlantic pre-salt reservoirs, seismic modelling of carbonates, and seismic indicators of fluid flow and diagenesis.

Book Synopsis Cenozoic Carbonate Systems of Australasia by : American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Meeting
Download or read book Cenozoic Carbonate Systems of Australasia written by American Association of Petroleum Geologists. Meeting and published by SEPM Soc for Sed Geology. This book was released on 2010 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cenozoic carbonate systems of Australasia are the product of a diverse assortment of depositional and post-depositional processes, reflecting the interplay of eustasy, tectonics (both plate and local scale), climate, and evolutionary trends that influenced their initiation and development. These systems, which comprise both land-attached and isolated platforms, were initiated in a wide variety of tectonic settings (including rift, passive margin, and arc-related) and under warm and cool-water conditions where, locally, siliciclastic input affected their development. The lithofacies, biofacies, growth morphology, diagenesis, and hydrocarbon reservoir potential of these systems are products of these varying influences. The studies reported in this volume range from syntheses of tectonic and depositional factors influencing carbonate deposition and controls on reservoir formation and petroleum system development, to local studies from the South China Sea, Indonesia, Kalimantan, Malaysia, the Marion Plateau, the Philippines, Western Australia, and New Caledonia that incorporate outcrop and subsurface data, including 3-D seismic imaging of carbonate platforms and facies, to understand the interplay of factors affecting the development of these systems under widely differing circumstances. This volume will be of importance to geoscientists interested in the variability of Cenozoic carbonate systems and the factors that controlled their formation, and to those wanting to understand the range of potential hydrocarbon reservoirs discovered in these carbonates and the events that led to favorable reservoir and trap development.

Book Synopsis Subsurface Geology of a Prograding Carbonate Platform Margin, Great Bahama Bank by : Robert N. Ginsburg
Download or read book Subsurface Geology of a Prograding Carbonate Platform Margin, Great Bahama Bank written by Robert N. Ginsburg and published by SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology). This book was released on 2001 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will be of special interest to carbonate sedimentologists, geochemists, petroleum geologists, engineers, and seismologists. It addresses fundamental aspects of prograding carbonate platforms in a Neogene example from Great Bahama Bank. A remarkable seismic profile, which imaged the prograding margin, provided the seismic stratigraphic framework. Two continuouslycored and logged borings on the profile produced the ground truth for testing and characterizing processes: lithologies and ages of sequence boundaries; influence of sea level fluctuations on progradation, controls on impedance contrasts in carbonates; fluid flow through the submerged margin; log responses of different lithologies; and the origin, ages and depositional environments of the platform top and prograding clinothems. The new findings on diagenesis are of special interest, including complete mineral stabilization in seawater, early burial dolomitization related to sequence boundaries and how diagenesis controls sonic velocity and permeability.

This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Inspired by a GSA Penrose Conference held in 2005 (cosponsored by the International Association of Sedimentologists and the British Sedimentological Research Group), the 17 papers in this volume explore sedimentary environments in arc collision zones and their utility in recording the evolution of modern and ancient convergent margins. The first set of papers in the collection focuses on formation and evolution of the sedimentary record in arc settings and arc collision zones, concentrating on modern intra-oceanic examples. Papers include studies of flexural modeling and factors that affect development of siliciclastic and carbonate deposits around modern arcs. The second half of the volume presents new applications of arc sedimentary records. These relate primarily to constraining tectonic events in the evolution of arc systems, but also concern the links among tectonic uplift, collision, and geomorphic and climatic feedback mechanisms in arc collision zones."--Publisher's website.
