Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it that makes a person dream and come up with some of the wildest stories one can dare tell to a husband, wife, friend, or stranger? First of all, are they funny stories or scary stories? Are they stories anyone would dare to believe? Are they stories that ordinary people would really like to hear about or read about? And what in the world created such funny or unbelievable stories? Was it stress, or was it insomnia? Or are we just natural dreamers? My stories probably come to me from having too much time in my hands and thinking too much. The following stories probably came to me as dreams when I was doing a lot of daydreaming back in the seventies. At the time, I was pulling my weight while working at White’s Auto Store warehouse in the small town of Shallowater, Texas. I was a certified forklift driver pulling orders, license, and all. I worked in what was called Area 8. I pulled the big boxed toys, bicycles, and lawn mowers. I also pulled the fertilizer bag orders. Working inside a warehouse had many disadvantages. There was always dust all over the place. The warehouse was always hot in summer and pretty cold in winter. Many times when it was slow, I would let my mind just wander off into oblivion. That’s when my stories were born and began to take shape. Characters and names of characters would pop into my mind out of nowhere.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Henry Parker and Thomas Thompson arrived in Virginia Colony aboard the sailing ship Endeavor, 1765, their altercation aboard ship was forgotten. Each went his separate way, never expecting to meet again. Each, for his own reason, was anxious to depart the dock. Thomas Thompson, with his wife Elinor and son James, headed for the dusty coal mines of West Virginia. Thomas was jumping ship to avoid a return trip to England as promised to the captain. Henry Parker was heading west to look for suitable farm land that could be claimed free, if possible. He was anxious to get settled so that he could send for his bride, with whom he had only three days before being ordered to leave England forever, by King George III. Henry was to have a long three year wait before seeing his bride again. The next meeting between the Parkers and Thompsons took place in a military hospital during the revolutionary war, each had been wounded at the second battle of Yorktown. Over the next many years chance meetings occurred between the two families through the dust of Texas trail drives, wars, and homesteading in Oklahoma Territory. Then in 1922 the two families were forever joined as Arthur William Parker courted and wed, Lena May Thompson. In 1935 and 1936 the Parker sharecrop farm was devastated by the depression, drought, and choking dust storms of the 1930s. In 1937 Most members of both extended families joined the long trail of okies headed for California in search of a better life.

It brings before us a pleasing and surprising revelation of some truth or beauty which generally goes unnoticed in life until some sensitive soul brings it to our attention making us feel it. It's here my honest effort to bring it before the readers in beautiful and coloured words expressing my observations and experiences of life with the hope that my learned and sagacious readers will view and evaluate it justly and impartially.

Book Synopsis Dusty Roads by : Janice Carter Brown
Download or read book Dusty Roads written by Janice Carter Brown and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dusty Roads is a poetic walk in the journey that is my life. It is taken from various seasons and experiences. I believe it is God’s will that this work be published. At this time and in this season the message of God’s grace should be preached through all genres. It is my belief that my fellows, as well as those who walk outside the safety of salvation, will be bettered by the openness of this work; the testimony and honest revelation will be a witness to the lost and edification to kingdom travelers. It is my belief that this work is one of “few things,” for which Christ will reward as a faithful act, and the knowledge that I may be of service to him in the furtherance of the kingdom compels and, yes, propels me onward down this “dusty road.”
Book Synopsis The Secret Life of Dust by : Hannah Holmes
Download or read book The Secret Life of Dust written by Hannah Holmes and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2009-08-18 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hannah Holmes A mesmerizing expedition around our dusty world Some see dust as dull and useless stuff. But in the hands of author Hannah Holmes, it becomes a dazzling and mysterious force; Dust, we discover, built the planet we walk upon. And it tinkers with the weather and spices the air we breathe. Billions of tons of it rise annually into the air--the dust of deserts and forgotten kings mixing with volcanic ash, sea salt, leaf fragments, scales from butterfly wings, shreds of T-shirts, and fireplace soot. Eventually, though, all this dust must settle. The story of restless dust begins among exploding stars, then treks through the dinosaur beds of the Gobi Desert, drills into Antarctic glaciers, filters living dusts from the wind, and probes the dark underbelly of the living-room couch. Along the way, Holmes introduces a delightful cast of characters--the scientists who study dust. Some investigate its dark side: how it killed off dinosaurs and how its industrial descendents are killing us today. Others sample the shower of Saharan dust that nourishes Caribbean jungles, or venture into the microscopic jungle of the bedroom carpet. Like The Secret Life of Dust, however, all of them unveil the mayhem and magic wrought by little things. Hannah Holmes (Portland, ME) is a science and natural history writer for the Discovery Channel Online. Her freelance work has been widely published, appearing in the Los Angeles Times Magazine, the New York Times Magazine, Outside, Sierra, National Geographic Traveler, and Escape. Her broadcast work has been featured on Living on Earth and the Discovery Channel Online's Science Live.
