Book Synopsis Catalan Pastis - Catalonian cakes by : Cristina Berna
Download or read book Catalan Pastis - Catalonian cakes written by Cristina Berna and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Catalan Pastis is the third volume in our series World of Cakes. In Luxembourg A Piece of Cake we toured the incredible cake shop world in tiny Luxembourg. The variety far exceeds what you would expect in a country smaller than Rhode Island. The book was an unplanned accident. In Florida Cakes we continued the habit of taking pictures of some of the cakes we purchased. Our life took us to the sunny beaches of Florida for a while. The cake designs in Florida are just incredible. Now back in Europe we had business in Spain and especially in Catalonia, which we enjoyed during a number of months. Again, we took advantage of its uniquely enjoyable cake shops bombonierie making the most wonderful cakes pastis in Catalan - some which are not found elsewhere. There must be at least one thousand cake shops and cafes in Barcelona alone serving these great specialities. We will try to discover some of the secrets behind this formidable variety and quality of Catalan pastis Catalan cakes. You will be surprised! We very much hope you will enjoy the tour and will take the opportunity to visit Spain and Catalonia yourself one day! Many thanks to Concha Marchante of the Servei de Pesca Continental in Barcelona and Professor Emili Garcia-Berthou from the University of Girone for their kind assistance with very interesting information on the fish in the Tordera River.

Book Synopsis Math Exchanges by : Kassia Omohundro Wedekind
Download or read book Math Exchanges written by Kassia Omohundro Wedekind and published by Stenhouse Publishers. This book was released on 2011 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, small-group math instruction has been used as a format for reaching children who struggle to understand. Math coach Kassia Omohundro Wedekind uses small-group instruction as the centerpiece of her math workshop approach, engaging all students in rigorous "math exchanges." The key characteristics of these mathematical conversations are that they are: 1) short, focused sessions that bring all mathematical minds together, 2) responsive to the needs of the specific group of mathematicians, and 3) designed for meaningful, guided reflection. As in reading and writing workshop, students in math workshop become self-directed and independent while participating in a classroom community of learners. Through the math exchanges, students focus on number sense and the big ideas of mathematics. Teachers guide the conversations with small groups of students, mediating talk and thinking as students share problem-solving strategies, discuss how math works, and move toward more effective and efficient approaches and greater mathematical understanding. Although grounded in theory and research, Math Exchanges: Guiding Young Mathematicians in Small Group Meetings is written for practicing teachers and answers such questions as the following: How can I use a math workshop approach and follow a certain textbook or set of standards? How should I form small groups? How often should I meet with small groups? What should I focus on in small groups? How can I tell if my groups are making progress? What do small-group math exchanges look like, sound like, and feel like?

She is a cartographer by trade, explorer by nature, and adventurer by heart. She has inherited a fortune from her uncle and is one of the richest women during the Depression. But there’s a problem. Miss Mona is bored. So she underwrites an expedition to find lost Native American silver mines in Eastern Kentucky. As a condition of underwriting the search, Mona gets to tag along, but soon discovers the expedition has a nefarious purpose. Mona finds herself lost in the Appalachian Mountains with only her wits to save her, but like the panthers roaming the mountain ridges, she is swift, silent, and deadly. That’s how Mona does things in 1933. MURDER UNDER A WOLF MOON Mona has inherited a fortune from her uncle and is one of the richest women during the Great Depression. But there’s a problem. Mona attends an elegant party given by Elspeth Hopper, the daughter of a world-renowned archeologist of Egyptian Queen Ahsetsedek IV’s tomb. Not long afterwards, Elspeth’s maid is found murdered, and the local sheriff considers Mona a suspect. That doesn’t sit well with Mona. She’s determined to clear her name and find out who killed the maid and why. When she discovers the low-down varmint, she’ll take care of him her way! She doesn’t carry a gun in her purse for nothing. That’s how Mona does things in 1934. MURDER UNDER A BLACK MOON Mona attends the Kentucky Derby with Lord Farley and his guest, the fabulous Alice Roosevelt Longworth, one of the most famous women in the world. To their surprise and dismay, a man is murdered right under their noses. How could they not have noticed? To make matters worse, Mona’s friend, Willie Deatherage, is accused of the murder. Mona insists that Willie couldn’t have done it as she never left Mona’s side during the race—or did she? Mona is not going to let her friend go to jail for something she didn’t do, but how does Mona find the real killer among other suspects at the Derby? If Mona has to interview every one of the 60,000 people attending the Derby, she will. That’s how Mona does things in 1934. If you like mysteries by Sara Rosett, Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Book Synopsis This Must Be the Place by : Kate Racculia
Download or read book This Must Be the Place written by Kate Racculia and published by Henry Holt and Company. This book was released on 2010-07-06 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sudden death, a never-mailed postcard, and a longburied secret set the stage for a luminous and heartbreakingly real novel about lost souls finding one another The Darby-Jones boardinghouse in Ruby Falls, New York, is home to Mona Jones and her daughter, Oneida, two loners and self-declared outcasts who have formed a perfectly insular family unit: the two of them and the three eclectic boarders living in their house. But their small, quiet life is upended when Arthur Rook shows up in the middle of a nervous breakdown, devastated by the death of his wife, carrying a pink shoe box containing all his wife's mementos and keepsakes, and holding a postcard from sixteen years ago, addressed to Mona but never sent. Slowly the contents of the box begin to fit together to tell a story—one of a powerful friendship, a lost love, and a secret that, if revealed, could change everything that Mona, Oneida, and Arthur know to be true. Or maybe the stories the box tells and the truths it brings to life will teach everyone about love—how deeply it runs, how strong it makes us, and how even when all seems lost, how tightly it brings us together. With emotional accuracy and great energy, Kate Racculia's This Must Be the Place introduces memorable, charming characters that refuse to be forgotten.
