Book Synopsis Mommy, was Grandpa a Nazi? by : Elisabeth Falcone
Download or read book Mommy, was Grandpa a Nazi? written by Elisabeth Falcone and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time seems to stand still when we share a meal with family and friends or with strangers. The concept that food releases a chemical reaction enhancing our capacity for tolerance and understanding is a common thread in the stories of this book. They take us from WWII Germany to present-day Europe and America . When the author's daughter, Angie, comes home from school and asks, "Mommy, was grandpa a Nazi?", the author wants to find who wants to know and meets with Angie's teacher, Ruth Singer, who is teaching about the Holocaust. They have much in common, and their love of cooking leads to a lifelong friendship. "Gita's Diary" is about a Polish refugee whose culinary skills help the author's grandmother and her children to survive while the grandfather is in a Nazi labor camp. In "Gentiles Only", Ruth Singer discovers that in the 1950's Jews are not welcome in some Miami Beach hotels. "Forbidden Love" is about Silke, a Norwegian immigrant, who falls in love with Julian, a Black man. She learns that in the 1970's racially mixed couples are taboo in America . They separate, but a cousin's magic cooking reunites them. Paul, an American art student in "Aix Marks the Spot", abandons his prejudice against the Irish when a young Irish pastry chef serves him a delicious dessert. Soon after the 9/11 attack, Claudia, a Catholic Latina, meets Azir, a Muslim, on a cruise ship. In "Plain Couscous" they set aside their religious differences to enjoy each other and Claudia's picnic. "Mutti's Story" and "Vati's Story" helped Angie to understand her grandparents' experiences during WWII. The stories' recipes are listed at the end of the chapter. Complete recipes are in the Appendix.

She was someone who had grown up in a well-off family, someone who had grown up in the love of her parents. Meeting someone from another country, he was no longer that cold and aloof young master from a thousand miles away. He protected, doted upon, and loved her. She had thought that her life would be given to her in such a sweet manner. Unexpectedly, that blank memory had been filled up. That shameful and desperate life had been left bloody in front of her. She could no longer face his tenderness. Five years later, when she returned to her old home, the figure under the Tower of London overlapped with the man she had dreamed of in her dreams. She stretched out her hand, but she dared not touch it. The little boy's soft little hands pulled at the corner of his clothes. He shifted his gaze from the Tower of London down, and those familiar eyes made his heart tremble. The word 'father' made his heart even more confused. He turned around and saw a woman whose clothes fluttered in the wind not too far away, who else could it be but the person he was desperately searching for. She hesitated, then lifted her foot and walked toward him, though this time she didn't know if he was her salvation or her doom. Five years, was he still her good man?

Book Synopsis A A Daughter’s Wish by : Edward N. Kelley
Download or read book A A Daughter’s Wish written by Edward N. Kelley and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-04-09 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Daughter's Wish has been written during this time of societal upheaval. Decisions of life and death have been relegated to a determination of convenience or inconvenience. More commonly known as a right to choose, this political debate, with its governing laws, has historically been the subject of bitter discussions. In an environment where God has basically been overlooked by human nature, what is the foundation or rationale for deciding who lives or who dies? The author is not asking for the reader to take a position on this controversial subject, at least not until they have read this young couple's story. As young high school students madly in love with each other, they made the decision to engage in the weakness of the flesh. The results of their self-absorbed decision leads the young couple down a path that draws societal opinion, family pressures, and consequential life decisions both short-term and long-term. They have been given a gift from God, but suppose this gift was not planned or welcome. This story highlights the consequences of a decision involving the life or death, acceptance or rejection of a newborn creature that is under God's plan. The story exhibits some fascinating ramifications when God examines the young couple's freewill decision while agreeing to meet the expectations of a daughter's wish!
