Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive survey of recent advances made in characterizing neurotransmitter transporters-including their imaging in the living brain-and in elucidating the processes underlying biological transport. The expert contributors present up-to-date findings on the molecular cloning of transporters and on neurotransmitter families both in plasma membranes and in storage vesicles. They also provide essential information on the structure-activity relationships for a multitude of recently synthesized dopamine uptake blockers, on transporter changes in the context of human drug abuse, and on the role of transporters in the action of uptake blockers in vivo. The book opens the new frontier of transporters research, authoritatively presenting new insights into their roles in such diseases as brain ischemia and ALS, and into their involvement as targets for antidepressants, antiepileptics, drugs of abuse, and neurotoxins.

This book was released on 2010-03-10 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological cell membranes regulate the transfer of matter and information between the intracellular and extracellular compartments as basic survival and maintenance functions for an organism. This volume contains a series of reviews that are c- cerned with how epithelial plasma membranes regulate the transport of solutes between the intracellular and extracellular compartments of a cell. This book is also an attempt to analyze the molecular basis for the movement of various solutes across an epithelial cell membrane. This volume is devoted to a diversity of epithelial transport mechanisms in rep- sentative cell membranes of a variety of living things. The ?rst section of the book (Chapters 1–6) focuses on mechanisms of solute transport in epithelia of inver- brates. The last section which comprises ten chapters (Chapters 7–16) deals with solute transporters in epithelial cell membranes of vertebrates. It is hoped that with this particular ordering the reader can glean a telescopic view of the evolutionary history of the various epithelial solute transporters.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of the extensive 7-volume work Comprehensive Molecular Insect Science provided library customers and their end-users with a complete reference encompassing important developments and achievements in modern insect science, including reviews on the ecdysone receptor, lipocalins, and bacterial toxins. One of the most popular areas in entomology is pharmacology, and this derivative work, Insect Pharmacology, taps into a previously unapproached market – the end user who desires to purchase a comprehensive yet affordable work on important aspects of this topic. Contents will include timeless articles covering sodium channels, spider toxins and their potential for insect control, insect transformation for use in control, amino acid and neurotransmitter transporters, and more. New summaries for each chapter will give an overview of developments in the related article since its original publication. - Articles selected by the known and respected editor-in-chief and co-editor of the original MRW - The articles are classic reviews offering broad coverage of essential topics in pharmacology, with special addenda including author notes on the chapter since its original publication - Introduction by the editor puts the selected body of work in context for this volume, highlighting the need for entomologists, pharmacologists and related researchers to have these reviews in their personal collection
