ILS SONT ILLUSTRES PAR DEUX EXEMPLES D'INTERPRETATION POUR LES MODELES TABULAIRES, L'UN POUR L'EXPLORATION D'AMAS SULFURES, L'AUTRE POUR LA CARACTERISATION D'UNE SERIE SEDIMENTAIRE, ET PAR L'ETUDE D'UN DISPOSITIF DE TRANSMISSION ELECTROMAGNETIQUE DE DONNEES POUR LES MODELES CYLINDRIQUES. LA MODELISATION BIDIMENSIONNELLE PAR ELEMENTS FINIS EST ENSUITE TRAITEE, EN MONTRANT LES DEVELOPPEMENTS SPECIFIQUES NECESSAIRES A L'OBTENTION DE RESULTATS FIABLES POUR LES METHODES ELECTROMAGNETIQUES A SOURCE CONTROLEE, PUIS EN L'APPLIQUANT A L'ETUDE DE CAS THEORIQUES. SON UTILISATION POUR L'INTERPRETATION DE DONNEES DE PROSPECTION EST ILLUSTREE PAR UNE ETUDE METHODOLOGIQUE SUR UN PROSPECT MINIER OU DES MESURES FURENT FAITES A LA FOIS EN SURFACE ET EN FORAGE. ENFIN, EN VUE DE DEVELOPPEMENTS FUTURS POUR LA MODELISATION DES TECHNIQUES ELECTROMAGNETIQUES, LA METHODE DES ELEMENTS DE FRONTIERE EST PRESENTEE DANS LE CAS BIDIMENSIONNEL CYLINDRIQUE EN COURANT CONTINU

Book excerpt: Magnetotellurics is finding increasing applications for imaging electrically conductive structures below the Earth`s surface - in both industrial and academic research projects. In this book the authors provide a systematic approach to understanding the modern theory of ill-posed problems which is essential to making confident meaningful interpretations of magnetotelluric and magnetovariational soundings. The interpretation is conducted in an interactive way.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic exploration is one of the earliest and most widely used geophysical exploration techniques. Electromagnetic methods, such as magnetotelluric (MT), audio magnetotelluric (AMT), transient electromagnetic method (TEM), and controlled source electromagnetic method (CSEM), have made a great contribution to industrialization and urbanization by discovering underground deposits of various resources. Driven by the latest progress in electronics and intelligent algorithms, electromagnetic exploration is developing at a high speed. Many challenges faced by traditional geophysical methods are now solvable. Emerging sensing technology and signal processing technology greatly improves the accuracy of electromagnetic methods in many applications. At the same time, such technologies promoted the development of new geophysical theories and methods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An update to a classic reference published fifteen years ago, this publication concerns the theoretical aspects of inductive electromagnetic methods applied in geophysical prospecting. From first principles, the electromagnetic responses of several models are derived and analysed in order to form a strong basis for understanding such phenomenon in practice. The original work has been extended by using modern 3-D modeling capabilities with a special emphasis on airborne applications. Exploration and research geophysicists will appreciate the numerous closed-form and asymptotic electromagnetic expressions for spherical and clylindrical conductors contained within non-conductive and conductive hosts which are described in this volume. Responses based on such expressions are often presented in graphical and tabular form in order to help the reader visualise the significance of the results and in order to facilitate comparisons with physical and numerical modeling results. In contrast to the first edition, key results are summarised at the end of each chapter and old material that has been retained in the new edition has been clarified and in many instances corrected. A new chapter has been written in which an extensive evaluation of several different airborne electromagnetic systems is described. The evaluation was based on the utilization of an advanced 3-D modeling program to simulate complex geoelectrical situations that are of interest in exploration and in airborne resistivity mapping.

Book excerpt: In this book the author presents the state-of-the-art electromagnetic (EM)theories and methods employed in EM geophysical exploration. The book brings together the fundamental theory of EM fields and the practicalaspects of EM exploration for mineral and energy resources. This text is unique in its breadth and completeness in providing anoverview of EM geophysical exploration technology. The book is divided into four parts covering the foundations of EMfield theory and its applications, and emerging geophysical methods.Part I is an introduction to the field theory required for baselineunderstanding. Part II is an overview of all the basic elements ofgeophysical EM theory, from Maxwell's fundamental equations to modernmethods of modeling the EM field in complex 3-D geoelectrical formations. Part III deals with the regularized solution of ill-posedinverse electromagnetic problems, the multidimensional migration and imaging ofelectromagnetic data, and general interpretation techniques. Part IV describes major geophysical electromagnetic methods—direct current (DC), induced polarization (IP), magnetotelluric(MT), and controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) methods—and covers different applications of EM methods in exploration geophysics, includingminerals and HC exploration, environmental study, and crustal study. Presents theoretical and methodological findings, as well as examples of applications of recently developed algorithms and software in solving practical problems Describes the practical importance of electromagnetic data through enabling discussions on a construction of a closed technological cycle, processing, analysis and three-dimensional interpretation Updates current findings in the field, especially with MT, magnetovariational and seismo-electrical methods and the practice of 3D interpretations
