Book excerpt: for the fluctuations around the means but rather fluctuations, and appearing in the following incompressible system of equations: on any wall; at initial time, and are assumed known. This contribution arose from discussion with J. P. Guiraud on attempts to push forward our last co-signed paper (1986) and the main idea is to put a stochastic structure on fluctuations and to identify the large eddies with a part of the probability space. The Reynolds stresses are derived from a kind of Monte-Carlo process on equations for fluctuations. Those are themselves modelled against a technique, using the Guiraud and Zeytounian (1986). The scheme consists in a set of like equations, considered as random, because they mimic the large eddy fluctuations. The Reynolds stresses are got from stochastic averaging over a family of their solutions. Asymptotics underlies the scheme, but in a rather loose hidden way. We explain this in relation with homogenizati- localization processes (described within the §3. 4 ofChapter 3). Ofcourse the mathematical well posedness of the scheme is not known and the numerics would be formidable! Whether this attempt will inspire researchers in the field of highly complex turbulent flows is not foreseeable and we have hope that the idea will prove useful.

Book Synopsis Modélisation asymptotique en mécanique des fluides newtoniens by : Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian
Download or read book Modélisation asymptotique en mécanique des fluides newtoniens written by Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-05-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Lectures on Nonlinear Hyperbolic Differential Equations by : Lars Hörmander
Download or read book Lectures on Nonlinear Hyperbolic Differential Equations written by Lars Hörmander and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-07-17 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this introductory textbook, a revised and extended version of well-known lectures by L. Hörmander from 1986, four chapters are devoted to weak solutions of systems of conservation laws. Apart from that the book only studies classical solutions. Two chapters concern the existence of global solutions or estimates of the lifespan for solutions of nonlinear perturbations of the wave or Klein-Gordon equation with small initial data. Four chapters are devoted to microanalysis of the singularities of the solutions. This part assumes some familiarity with pseudodifferential operators which are standard in the theory of linear differential operators, but the extension to the more exotic classes of opertors needed in the nonlinear theory is presented in complete detail.

This book was released on 2012-01-26 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph deals with a modeling theory of the system of Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations for a Newtonian fluid governing a compressible viscous and heat conducting flows. The main objective is threefold. First , to 'deconstruct' this Navier-Stokes-Fourier system in order to unify the puzzle of the various partial simplified approximate models used in Newtonian Classical Fluid Dynamics and this, first facet, have obviously a challenging approach and a very important pedagogic impact on the university education. The second facet of the main objective is to outline a rational consistent asymptotic/mathematical theory of the of fluid flows modeling on the basis of a typical Navier-Stokes-Fourier initial and boundary value problem. The third facet is devoted to an illustration of our rational asymptotic/mathematical modeling theory for various technological and geophysical stiff problems from: aerodynamics, thermal and thermocapillary convections and also meteofluid dynamics.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Analysis of Thin Plate Models by : Philippe Destuynder
Download or read book Mathematical Analysis of Thin Plate Models written by Philippe Destuynder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shells and plates have been widely studied by engineers during the last fifty years. As a matter of fact an important number of papers have been based on analytical calculations. More recently numerical simulations have been extensively used. for instance for large displacement analysis. for shape optimization or even -in linear analysis -for composite material understanding. But all these works lie on a choice of a finite element scheme which contains usually three kinds of approximations: 1. a plate or shell mndel including smnll parameters associated to the thickness, 2. an approximntion of the geometry (the medium sUrface of a shell and its boundary), 3. afinite element scheme in order to solve the mndel chosen. VI Obviously the conclusions that we can draw are very much depending on the quality of the three previous choices. For instance composite laminated plates with damage like a delamination is still an open problem even if interesting papers have already been published and based on numerical simulation using existing fmite element and even plate models. • In our opinion the understanding of plate modelling is still an area of interest. Furthermore the links between the various models have to be handled with care. The certainly best understood model is the Kirchhoff-Love model which was completely justified by P. O. Ciarlet and Ph. Destuynder in linear analysis using asymptotic method. But the conclusion is not so clear as far as large displacements are to be taken into account.

Book Synopsis Five Decades of Tackling Models for Stiff Fluid Dynamics Problems by : Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian
Download or read book Five Decades of Tackling Models for Stiff Fluid Dynamics Problems written by Radyadour Kh. Zeytounian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-03 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rationality - as opposed to 'ad-hoc' - and asymptotics - to emphasize the fact that perturbative methods are at the core of the theory - are the two main concepts associated with the Rational Asymptotic Modeling (RAM) approach in fluid dynamics when the goal is to specifically provide useful models accessible to numerical simulation via high-speed computing. This approach has contributed to a fresh understanding of Newtonian fluid flow problems and has opened up new avenues for tackling real fluid flow phenomena, which are known to lead to very difficult mathematical and numerical problems irrespective of turbulence. With the present scientific autobiography the author guides the reader through his somewhat non-traditional career; first discovering fluid mechanics, and then devoting more than fifty years to intense work in the field. Using both personal and general historical contexts, this account will be of benefit to anyone interested in the early and contemporary developments of an important branch of theoretical and computational fluid mechanics.

Book Synopsis Interfacial Phenomena and the Marangoni Effect by : M. G. Velarde
Download or read book Interfacial Phenomena and the Marangoni Effect written by M. G. Velarde and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marangoni (1878), provided a wealth of detailed information on the effects of variations of the potential energy of liquid surfaces and, in particular, flow arising from variations in temperature and surfactant composition. One aspect of this science is seen today to bear on important phenomena associated with the processing of modern materials. The role of the basic effect in technology was probably first demonstrated by chemical engineers in the field of liquid-liquid extraction. Indeed, phenomena attributable to Marangoni flows have been reported in innumerable instances relevant to modern technologies, such as in hot salt corrosion in aeroturbine blades; the drying of solvent-containing paints; the drying of silicon wafers used in electronics; in materials processing, particularly in metallic systems which have been suspected to demonstrate Marangoni flows.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Models in the Manufacturing of Glass by : Angiolo Farina
