Book excerpt: This book addresses the vector control of three-phase AC machines, in particular induction motors with squirrel-cage rotors (IM), permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) and doubly-fed induction machines (DFIM), from a practical design and development perspective. The main focus is on the application of IM and PMSM in electrical drive systems, where field-orientated control has been successfully established in practice. It also discusses the use of grid-voltage oriented control of DFIMs in wind power plants. This second, enlarged edition includes new insights into flatness-based nonlinear control of IM, PMSM and DFIM. The book is useful for practitioners as well as development engineers and designers in the area of electrical drives and wind-power technology. It is a valuable resource for researchers and students.

Book excerpt: The Field Orientation Principle was fIrst formulated by Haase, in 1968, and Blaschke, in 1970. At that time, their ideas seemed impractical because of the insufficient means of implementation. However, in the early eighties, technological advances in static power converters and microprocessor-based control systems made the high-performance a. c. drive systems fully feasible. Since then, hundreds of papers dealing with various aspects of the Field Orientation Principle have appeared every year in the technical literature, and numerous commercial high-performance a. c. drives based on this principle have been developed. The term "vector control" is often used with regard to these systems. Today, it seems certain that almost all d. c. industrial drives will be ousted in the foreseeable future, to be, in major part, superseded by a. c. drive systems with vector controlled induction motors. This transition has already been taking place in industries of developed countries. Vector controlled a. c. drives have been proven capable of even better dynamic performance than d. c. drive systems, because of higher allowable speeds and shorter time constants of a. c. motors. It should be mentioned that the Field Orientation Principle can be used in control not only of induction (asynchronous) motors, but of all kinds of synchronous motors as well. Vector controlled drive systems with the so called brushless d. c. motors have found many applications in high performance drive systems, such as machine tools and industrial robots.

This book was released on 2023-07-21 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a compilation of knowledge about computer models in the three-phase stator reference frame. Chapters explore several aspects of the topic and build upon research previously presented by contributors. The book aims to provide interesting solutions to problems encountered in the design of railway and analysis in railway motors. The modeling approaches proposed by the authors in this book may become an incentive for readers and researchers to develop their ‘lifehacks’ to solve new problems in induction motor design and testing. Key topics presented in the book: - Approximate calculations of induction motor equivalent T-shaped circuit parameters with the use of catalogue data - Simulations of different types of shaft load, including fluid coupling - Receiving static characteristics of an electric machine during simulation by means of dynamic model - Simulation of the electric drive’s specific applications with three-phase induction motors building - Direct start of an induction motor as part of an auxiliary drive of an AC electric locomotive, containing a capacitor phase splitter, starting with different types of shaft loads (fan or compressor). Special attention has been given to the description of the thermal model of an induction motor with a squirrel-cage rotor, which makes it possible to simulate operating modes when powered by an unbalanced voltage, as well as with squirrel cage defects. The thermal model is presented as a detailed superstructure to the model of electromechanical processes of an induction electric machine. Other key features of the book include references for further reading, an appendix for the parameters of the equivalent thermal circuit of an NVA-55 induction motor. The material presented in the book is of interest to railway motor engineers, specialists in electromechanics and electric drives who use SPICE-compatible CAD applications in their work.

Book excerpt: The safe and reliable operation of technical systems is of great significance for the protection of human life and health, the environment, and of the vested economic value. The correct functioning of those systems has a profound impact also on production cost and product quality. The early detection of faults is critical in avoiding performance degradation and damage to the machinery or human life. Accurate diagnosis then helps to make the right decisions on emergency actions and repairs. Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) has developed into a major area of research, at the intersection of systems and control engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics and statistics, and such application fields as chemical, electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering. IFAC has recognized the significance of FDD by launching a triennial symposium series dedicated to the subject. The SAFEPROCESS Symposium is organized every three years since the first symposium held in Baden-Baden in 1991. SAFEPROCESS 2006, the 6th IFAC Symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes was held in Beijing, PR China. The program included three plenary papers, two semi-plenary papers, two industrial talks by internationally recognized experts and 258 regular papers, which have been selected out of a total of 387 regular and invited papers submitted. * Discusses the developments and future challenges in all aspects of fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control * 8 invited and 36 contributed sessions included with a special session on the demonstration of process monitoring and diagnostic software tools

The basic power converter topologies applied in motor control technology as well as symmetry and loss reduction problems are discussed. Some examples of controller design methods are presented step by step. An important feature of the book is that it contains many examples of systems applied in practical engineering as well as simulation and experimental results. The volume will be of interest to all those familiar with the basics of electrical machines and control systems theory. Therefore, it is recommended to students of electrical, electronics and mechanics departments. The book can also be used by those working in industry, who are interested in modern power electronics, drives and motion control, robotics as well as automation of industrial processes.

Book excerpt: Analysis and Control System Techniques for Electric Power Systems, Part 4 is the fourth volume of a four volume sequence in this series devoted to the significant theme of ""Analysis and Control Techniques for Electric Power Systems."" The broad topics involved include transmission line and transformer modeling. Since the issues in these two fields are rather well in hand, although advances continue to be made, this four volume sequence will focus on advances in areas including power flow analysis, economic operation of power systems, generator modeling, power system stability, voltage and power control techniques, and system protection, among others. This book comprises seven chapters, with the first focusing on computer relaying in power systems. Succeeding chapters then discuss advanced control techniques for high performance electric drives; high voltage outdoor insulation technology; and power system generation expansion planning using the maximum principle and analytical production cost model. Other chapters cover development of expert systems and their learning capability for power system applications; advances in fast power flow algorithms; and power systems state estimation based on least absolute value (LAV). This book will be of interest to practitioners in the fields of electrical and computer engineering.
