Download or read book Boundary-value Problems with Free Boundaries for Elliptic Systems of Equations written by Valentin Nikolaevich Monakhov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1983 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with certain classes of nonlinear problems for elliptic systems of partial differential equations: boundary-value problems with free boundaries. The first part has to do with the general theory of boundary-value problems for analytic functions and its applications to hydrodynamics. The second presents the theory of quasiconformal mappings, along with the theory of boundary-value problems for elliptic systems of equations and applications of it to problems in the mechanics of continuous media with free boundaries: problems in subsonic gas dynamics, filtration theory, and problems in elastico-plasticity.

Book Synopsis Boundary Value Problems by : F. D. Gakhov
Download or read book Boundary Value Problems written by F. D. Gakhov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Value Problems is a translation from the Russian of lectures given at Kazan and Rostov Universities, dealing with the theory of boundary value problems for analytic functions. The emphasis of the book is on the solution of singular integral equations with Cauchy and Hilbert kernels. Although the book treats the theory of boundary value problems, emphasis is on linear problems with one unknown function. The definition of the Cauchy type integral, examples, limiting values, behavior, and its principal value are explained. The Riemann boundary value problem is emphasized in considering the theory of boundary value problems of analytic functions. The book then analyzes the application of the Riemann boundary value problem as applied to singular integral equations with Cauchy kernel. A second fundamental boundary value problem of analytic functions is the Hilbert problem with a Hilbert kernel; the application of the Hilbert problem is also evaluated. The use of Sokhotski's formulas for certain integral analysis is explained and equations with logarithmic kernels and kernels with a weak power singularity are solved. The chapters in the book all end with some historical briefs, to give a background of the problem(s) discussed. The book will be very valuable to mathematicians, students, and professors in advanced mathematics and geometrical functions.
Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations and Boundary-Value Problems with Applications by : Mark A. Pinsky
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary-Value Problems with Applications written by Mark A. Pinsky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the basic techniques of separation of variables and Fourier series, the book presents the solution of boundary-value problems for basic partial differential equations: the heat equation, wave equation, and Laplace equation, considered in various standard coordinate systems--rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical. Each of the equations is derived in the three-dimensional context; the solutions are organized according to the geometry of the coordinate system, which makes the mathematics especially transparent. Bessel and Legendre functions are studied and used whenever appropriate throughout the text. The notions of steady-state solution of closely related stationary solutions are developed for the heat equation; applications to the study of heat flow in the earth are presented. The problem of the vibrating string is studied in detail both in the Fourier transform setting and from the viewpoint of the explicit representation (d'Alembert formula). Additional chapters include the numerical analysis of solutions and the method of Green's functions for solutions of partial differential equations. The exposition also includes asymptotic methods (Laplace transform and stationary phase). With more than 200 working examples and 700 exercises (more than 450 with answers), the book is suitable for an undergraduate course in partial differential equations.

Download or read book Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Applications written by Alberto Cialdea and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-14 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes several invited lectures given at the International Workshop "Analysis, Partial Differential Equations and Applications", held at the Mathematical Department of Sapienza University of Rome, on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Vladimir G. Maz'ya, a renowned mathematician and one of the main experts in the field of pure and applied analysis. The book aims at spreading the seminal ideas of Maz'ya to a larger audience in faculties of sciences and engineering. In fact, all articles were inspired by previous works of Maz'ya in several frameworks, including classical and contemporary problems connected with boundary and initial value problems for elliptic, hyperbolic and parabolic operators, Schrödinger-type equations, mathematical theory of elasticity, potential theory, capacity, singular integral operators, p-Laplacians, functional analysis, and approximation theory. Maz'ya is author of more than 450 papers and 20 books. In his long career he obtained many astonishing and frequently cited results in the theory of harmonic potentials on non-smooth domains, potential and capacity theories, spaces of functions with bounded variation, maximum principle for higher-order elliptic equations, Sobolev multipliers, approximate approximations, etc. The topics included in this volume will be particularly useful to all researchers who are interested in achieving a deeper understanding of the large expertise of Vladimir Maz'ya.
Book Synopsis The Fast Solution of Boundary Integral Equations by : Sergej Rjasanow
Download or read book The Fast Solution of Boundary Integral Equations written by Sergej Rjasanow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-04-17 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a detailed description of fast boundary element methods, all based on rigorous mathematical analysis. In particular, the authors use a symmetric formulation of boundary integral equations as well as discussing Galerkin discretisation. All the necessary related stability and error estimates are derived. The authors therefore describe the Adaptive Cross Approximation Algorithm, starting from the basic ideas and proceeding to their practical realization. Numerous examples representing standard problems are given.

Book Synopsis Initial-boundary Value Problems and the Navier-Stokes Equations by : Heinz-Otto Kreiss
Download or read book Initial-boundary Value Problems and the Navier-Stokes Equations written by Heinz-Otto Kreiss and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation This book provides an introduction to the vast subject of initial and initial-boundary value problems for PDEs, with an emphasis on applications to parabolic and hyperbolic systems. The Navier-Stokes equations for compressible and incompressible flows are taken as an example to illustrate the results. Researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics and engineering will find Initial-Boundary Value Problems and the Navier-Stokes Equations invaluable. The subjects addressed in the book, such as the well-posedness of initial-boundary value problems, are of frequent interest when PDEs are used in modeling or when they are solved numerically. The reader will learn what well-posedness or ill-posedness means and how it can be demonstrated for concrete problems. There are many new results, in particular on the Navier-Stokes equations. The direct approach to the subject still gives a valuable introduction to an important area of applied analysis.
