Book Synopsis Mission-Ready Friendship by : Jason J. Simon
Download or read book Mission-Ready Friendship written by Jason J. Simon and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2024-08-30 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether we know it or not, we all have family members or friends who are fighting hidden battles of doubt, alienation, isolation, guilt, compulsions, grief, or hopelessness. But often we don’t know exactly how to offer the Good News of Jesus to them in these struggles—at least not beyond offering our “thoughts and prayers.” Mission-Ready Friendship is a roadmap for how to truly befriend your friends, not by solving their problems for them but by going deeper to become the friend Jesus created you to be. Jason J. Simon grew up in a faithful home but wandered into darkness through his high school and college years. For years, he struggled with shame and despair until Chip, a guy he met while eating donuts after Mass, noticed that darkness and disrupted it by being an intentional, thoughtful friend. This relationship changed Simon’s life and eventually inspired him to lead the Evangelical Catholic, a national organization dedicated to helping people discover how God is already at work in the lives of our innermost circle. This book spells out simple and incremental practices any Catholic can use to develop deeper, more purposeful friendships. You will learn how to become more invested, curious, and empathetic toward others; pray for the people God has placed in your life; be ready for the ways God is prompting you to build deeper friendships; and bring intentionality to your relationships to accompany them closer to God. Jesus himself used these practices with his followers and sent each of them to use mission-ready friendship to share his good news with others. It’s a simple but powerful approach to relationships that promises to change lives, including your own.

Download or read book The Hyde Park Mission Story Lives On written by Joyce Parker and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 125th birthday of Womens Missionary Union, (WMU). In March 1888, the women doing missions all over the states and territories banded together and organized, in order to make more of an impact on world missions. As you will learn in Lillian Browns historical document in this book, (complete with references) Texas women had been doing foreign missions for several years previous to 1888, but joined in the bigger organization with the ladies back East. Hyde Park Baptist Church was begun June 1, 1894, and the women began their mission organization December 1896. At this writing, March 13, 2014, it was last year that I read the book The Story Lives On by Wanda S. Lee, Executive Director of WMU, and somehow heard a voice in my head, Joyce, you can do this. So I began collecting mission stories and gathering some historical stories from my fellow Hyde Parkers, to honor this calling and hopefully to inform our Staff and members of whats going on at Hyde Park Baptist Church outside the worship center. I pray to God our mission story does live on until Jesus comes again! Joyce Parker Coordinator of Women on Mission Hyde Park Baptist Church

Book Synopsis Radical Friendship by : Ryan Andrew Newson
Download or read book Radical Friendship written by Ryan Andrew Newson and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2017-04-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a society that is increasingly marked by apathy, division, and moral incompetence, how might Christians set about working with others in such a way as to begin to address those challenges that seem to overwhelm our capacity to respond? In Radical Friendship, Ryan Newson argues that the often-neglected practice of communal discernment provides a path to faithful political engagement that is worthy of reconsideration, especially given its ability to create authentic friendships both within and beyond the church. Such friendships, Newson maintains, are capable of fostering a type of competence in people who engage the practice that can counteract those social, political forces that are antithetical to competence’s formation. Uniquely, Newson explores the contours of communal discernment as a practice that is especially relevant to Christians seeking radical democratic alternatives to political liberalism. Communal discernment is shown to be capable of generating conscientious participation in grassroots politics; additionally, this practice enables Christians to enjoy reciprocal, discerning relationships with people of differing convictional communities. Indeed, communal discernment turns out to be capable of preparing Christians to recognize and celebrate analogues to the practice in the world at large.

Download or read book Friend-ish written by Kelly Needham and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For so many of us, our friends are like family members--we lean on them through our highest highs and our lowest lows--but sometimes those friendships don't turn out quite as we hoped. Bible teacher Kelly Needham debunks our world's constricted, narrow view of friendship and casts a richer, more life-giving, biblical vision for friendship. In Friend-ish, Kelly Needham reminds us that we were called to more than halfhearted friendships and lukewarm connections. We need something more stable, secure, and sacred. We were designed for real friendship--but the difficult truth is that too many of us are settling for less. Kelly deconstructs what Scripture says about the gift of friendship and takes a closer look at the distorted view that most of us have instead. As she shares the lessons she's learned from experience, Kelly paints her own glorious vision of what Christian friendship could look like. With hard-fought wisdom, a clear view of Scripture, and a been-there perspective, Friend-ish teaches us how to: Recognize symptoms of idolatry and toxic dependency Boldly ask for what we need from our community of friends Understand and address the problems that arise in friendship--from neediness to discord Recognize when it's time to end an unhealthy friendship Reorient toward the purposeful, loving relationships we all crave that ultimately bring us closer to God Find the friends you need and start to become that friend for others Join Kelly as she challenges you to view your chosen family in a new light, gain a vision of friendship according to Jesus, and finally enjoy friendships as God intended.

Book Synopsis Friendship and Healing by : Sheila Dickman Zarrow
Download or read book Friendship and Healing written by Sheila Dickman Zarrow and published by Chiron Publications. This book was released on 2010 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sheila Zarrow writes: Dr. Joseph Henderson was mentor to me for many years until his death in 2007 at age 104. He felt a deep connection to American history, was most interested in John Adams, and had spent some time on Benjamin Rush's farm. When I told Henderson about how I had spent three years meditating at the foot of Adams's statue in Worcester, Massachusetts, he enthusiastically encouraged me to study Adams, a study that led me also to Rush. My journey into their world ran parallel to my journey inward and the many synchronicities that came together with the writing of Friendship and Healing are testimony to the eternal nature of the living psyche. The letters of John Adams and Benjamin Rush depict the friendship that grew between the two as the course of history brought change into their lives and forced them to change themselves. Of particular interest are the dreams both men described in their letters and the evidence Zarrow has uncovered about how they considered the effects of their dreams. Rush, in his seminal text on medicine, wrote that dreaming is "as much a native faculty as memory or imagination." Dreams have meaning well beyond the personal and the present. They have roots and tendrils that stretch throughout the unknown inner world of our psyches. While we sleep, they make connections between our lives and the lives of others throughout history, back through mythology, and out to the eternal. Friendship and Healing explores one bright thread in the history of our country through the letters and dreams of two men who were there at the beginning.
