Anicic, as a missile battalion deputy commander and executive officer, was personally involved in downing F-117A. Because of the necessary requirements of security, both stealth and air defence materials are not widely known and there are a lot of speculations about these events, both in the printed material and also on the web. Some of them are pure imagination and some of them are close to the truth. The real truth is now known to a very narrow circle of experts but even there some the finest details are not known. The intention of the authors was not to write a pure technical book simply because there are plenty of technical publications and manuals about the radars, stealth, missiles, air defence suppression, development programs etc. The intention was also not to just address the historical events, but rather to combine all of that in a story which can tell both professional in their respectful field and also general public how the clash of two technologies culminated in the sky over Serbia and what are the consequences for the technology development and impacts on future of the air warfare.One of the challenges with this type of approach is to objectively expose error without casting the slightest shadow on those who took an oath and fought for their countries. But, at 20.42 hours on 27 March 1999, the military and aviation worlds were stunned when the impossible happened—a virtually obsolete Soviet-built surface-to-air missile system which had first been developed more than thirty years earlier, detected and shot down an F-117A, callsign “Vega 31.” This incident took place during the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. Were they too victims of Yugoslav missiles? Given the current U.S. dominance in precision attack and air combat capability, new technologies might serve to challenge this advantage if an enemy can exploit them. This paper examines the question of whether U.S. tactics or strategy will have to change with these systems in the hands of an adversary, assuming they were used in an integrated air defense role to counter U.S. high-tech deep-strike capability. Specifically, could high power microwave systems become an effective defense against our standoff cruise missile and stealth technology and if so, could an adversary develop and deploy them without our knowledge in order to catch us unaware? Based on the findings, the conclusion recommends several avenues that the Air Force should pursue to prepare for these future weapons.

But overall, Peeler's memoir covers decades of wide-ranging projects --Several Air Force Strategic missiles, Mercury, Apollo, several CIA programs, the F-16 aircraft and ends up with several automotive applications. The recollections Peeler fleshes out the most occur later in his career, when he has moved up to management and contract negotiation for his employer, a highly regarded division of General Motors. (The astronauts, as depicted in documentaries and film, drove Corvettes: They were gifts from GM, Peeler notes.) His stories of his greatest negotiating successes demonstrate how the author earned the nickname "Wheeler Dealer Peeler." Peeler wrote this memoir to give credit to the men who toiled behind the scenes of the dramatic rocket launches and to tell the younger generation what his peers accomplished. In that, he has succeeded. The book will likely appeal mostly to people who have worked in the industry, but it may also whet readers' appetites to read up more on the projects covered, or revisit films such as Apollo 13.
