Cet échantillonnage repose sur l’établissement d’un équilibre thermodynamique biphasique (air/polymère) des composés cibles. La compréhension des mécanismes diffusionnels a nécessité des études mathématique et par simulation numérique qui ont infirmé les équations proposées par Pawliszyn. Nous proposons dans cette thèse, une nouvelle équation d’estimation du temps d’équilibre d’un composé pour une configuration de fibre donnée. Des cinétiques d’extraction ont été étudiées expérimentalement, ainsi que des estimations de constantes thermodynamiques, grâce à un générateur d’air étalon. De plus, une optimisation de l’analyse par chromatographie en phase gazeuse et spectrométrie de masse permet de détecter leur présence à de faibles teneurs dans l’air.

Les BTEX (benzène, toluène, éthylbenzène et xylènes) sont des hydrocarbures aromatiques monocycliques volatils dont la toxicité est reconnue, en particulier envers les systèmes neurologique, respiratoire, génétique et excréteur. La SPME (microextraction en phase solide) permet de réaliser des analyses rapides, sensibles et sélectives de composés organiques volatils (COV), à partir de matrices complexes, telles que l'air ambiant. La méthode mise au point repose sur l'extraction des BTEX par une fibre SPME revêtue de Carboxen/poly(dimethylsiloxane), suivie d'une analyse par GC/MS. Le problème principal de la mise au point de cette technique est la réalisation, pour chaque composé, de courbes d'étalonnage pour des concentrations au niveau des traces. Un système dynamique de génération d'atmosphères étalons a été mis au point, en utilisant comme source de BTEX une bouteille de gaz comprimé certifiée. En deux étapes de dilution, des concentrations entre 1 et 100 mg/m3 ont été obtenues. A l'aide de ces étalons, la méthode a été validée. Pour la série des BTEX, une zone d'étalonnage linéaire dans la gamme 0-65 mg/m3 a été établie. Les limites de détection, les limites de quantification, la répétabilité et la reproductibilité inter-fibre, ont été évaluées.Les tubes à perméation (fabriqués au laboratoire) ont été étudiés comme source alternative d'atmosphère étalon : chaque tube rempli d'un composé pur, génère par perméation une vapeur qui peut être diluée avec un débit d'air zéro jusqu'à de très faibles concentrations. La thermogravimétrie a été proposée comme technique de mesure rapide de test et d'étalonnage des tubes de perméation. La technique SPME apparaît comme une méthode de choix pour l'analyse qualitative rapide et la détermination quantitative des COV, ainsi que les études de terrain l'ont montré. Etant donné la possibilité d'obtenir des informations analytiques sur des durées de l'ordre de l'heure, et la possibilité de multiplier l'échantillonnage, les domaines spécifiques d'application envisagés sont le diagnostic rapide, le suivi de l'évolution des concentrations, et la pollution de l'air intérieur.
