White men and black women have not had the most harmonious history. The author gives reasons why white men find black women so irresistible. Black women shared unfiltered explanations as to why they would or why they would not date a white man. This book can be a guide to help black women understand what it is like to date a white man. Black women can use the information in this book to create their own personal opinions and decisions. This book can also help white men understand what it takes to seriously date a black woman. White men can use information from this book to check their own motives. It is equally important for both black women and white men to understand the possible repercussions a black woman could face if choosing to date a white man. This book examines the three kinds of white men who would date a black woman and the three kinds of black women who may date a white man. Real life stories and many opinions are shared from fearless people from the black and white community. The author, Minnie Saints Alexander, shares her own journey and revelations from dating white men.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Cobb's first novel in nine years is a brilliant, quirky, highly readable story as compelling as it is original. Its main characters journey on parallel quests: Lester Ray, a fourteen-year-old boy who was deserted by his mother when he was a baby and has now escaped his abusive alcoholic father, and Minnie, a woman who was abandoned by her Gypsy family of migrant fruit pickers when she was eleven. The novel interweaves their searches for families they never really knew. It ranges from the Great Depression to the mid-1960s, and from the panhandle of Florida, where much of the novel is set, to New York City during World War II, to the Georgia and Carolina coasts, to Fort Myers and south Florida. Lester Ray finds work with a carnival as he looks for his mother, accompanied by all the odd and strange and wonderful people who make up that world. Minnie moves from the dry sandy heat of central Florida in 1933, to a brothel in Cedar Key, to New York, to the little town of Piper, to the winter camps of the Gypsies near Fort Myers. She is--first as a girl, then as a woman--a person of immense fortitude and strength, as engaging and unforgettable as Scarlett O'Hara.

Book excerpt: "James, a mixed-blood Navajo in his twenties . . . begins his life-transforming odyssey: getting used to ranch-life, getting into alcohol-drug trouble and serving jail-time, working as a tour-guide at Hubbell Trading Post, getting involved with heavy metal rez band, Putrefaction, in which he plays guitar. A Navajo story, a good one! Yes, read it."--Simon J. Ortiz, Acoma Pueblo native, author of Out There Somewhere and from Sand Creek ". . . a brutal beauty fills the pages of Warren Perkins's novel, Putrefaction Live. With the goregrind of heavy metal as background music, Perkins foregrounds the contemporary world of Diné with the authority of an insider. This is a novel about disintegration and rejuvenation among a new generation of Navajo warriors seasoned by a century of culture wars on their homeland. Bold, honest, and refreshingly original, this is an important book, as enlightening as it is captivating."--Ann Marie Cummins, author of Yellowcake and Red Ant House: Stories "Written in precise and elegant language, Perkins' novel is a fascinating coming-of-age story about a young boy caught between the past and the future, between the urban wasteland of Arizona's new cities and the gorgeous untouched natural landscape of the Navaho reservation. This is a terrific book!"--Susan Cheever, author of Desire: Where Sex Meets Addiction

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The best first novel I've read in quite a long time…A merciless uncovering of the exurban wastelands of the spirit." —New York Review of Books Poor George gives us George Mecklin, a restless, soft-spoken teacher at a private school in Manhattan. Depressed by his life of vague moral purpose, George discovers a local adolescent named Ernest breaking into his house. Rather than hand the boy over to the police, as his nagging wife insists, George instead decides to tutor him. His life consequently implodes. Filled with vividly acid portrayals of American life in the 1960s, prescient explorations of suburban anomie, and a riotously disturbing cast of supporting characters, Poor George is a classic American novel—further reminder of Paula Fox’s astonishing literary gifts. With an introduction by Jonathan Lethem.

The servants refuse to condone the King's morals; Isobel's daughter, Lady Rosina – now widowed and wealthy – insists on publishing a scandalous book, and the mis-spent pasts of Viscount Arthur and his Irish-American wife Minnie rear up to blacken the family name. When fate deals a hand in the middle of the shooting party, Isobel must consider not only her leading position in Society, but her entire future. Fay Weldon brings an aristocratic Edwardian household to fabulous, vibrant life in this gorgeously witty tale of manners and morals, commoners and countesses, from one of Britain's best loved authors.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Angelic Mother and the Predatory Seductress, Ashley Craig Lancaster examines how converging political and cultural movements helped to create dualistic images of southern poor white female characters in Depression-era literature. While other studies address the familial and labor issues that challenged female literary characters during the 1930s, Lancaster focuses on how the evolving eugenics movement reinforced the dichotomy of altruistic maternal figures and destructive sexual deviants. According to Lancaster, these binary stereotypes became a new analogy for hope and despair in America's future and were well utilized by Depression-era politicians and authors to stabilize the country's economic decline. As a result, the complexity of women's lives was often overlooked in favor of stock characters incapable of individuality. Lancaster studies a variety of works, including those by male authors William Faulkner, Erskine Caldwell, and John Steinbeck, as well as female novelists Mary Heaton Vorse, Myra Page, Grace Lumpkin, and Olive Tilford Dargan. She identifies female stereotypes in classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird and in the work of later writers Dorothy Allison and Rick Bragg, who embrace and share in a poor white background. The Angelic Mother and the Predatory Seductress reveals that these literary stereotypes continue to influence not only society's perception of poor white southern women but also women's perception of themselves.
