Several papers based on this work, for which the State paid one-half the cost, have been or will soon be published by the State; others are in prepara tion for publication by the United States Geological Survey. The field work on which this bulletin is based was done in the summer of 1906 by W. C. Phalen, assisted by Lawrence Martin. George H. Ashley, under whose supervision the work was done, visited the field and went over some of the more critical points.
