Book Synopsis Exploring Microeconomics by : Robert L. Sexton
Download or read book Exploring Microeconomics written by Robert L. Sexton and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2018-12-10 with total page 1490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The excitement of learning economics for the first time. The experience of a lifetime of teaching it. The Eighth Edition of Exploring Microeconomics captures the excitement of learning microeconomics for the first time through a lively and encouraging narrative that connects microeconomics to the world in a way that is familiar to readers. Author Robert L. Sexton draws on over 25 years of teaching experience to capture readers’ attention, focusing on core concepts and expertly weaving in examples from current events and popular culture to make even classic economic principles modern and relatable. The text sticks to the basics and applies a thoughtful learning design, segmenting its presentation into brief, visually appealing, self-contained sections that are easier for readers to digest and retain compared to sprawling text. Thoughtfully placed section quizzes, interactive summaries, and problem sets help readers check their comprehension at regular intervals and develop the critical thinking skills that will allow them to “think like economists.” Exploring Microeconomics will ignite readers’ passion for the field and reveal its practical application in the world around them.

Book Synopsis Generalized Microeconomics by : Jiří Hlaváček
Download or read book Generalized Microeconomics written by Jiří Hlaváček and published by Karolinum Press. This book was released on 2014-02-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The generalization of microeconomics enables model descriptions of economic rationality, even in fields that standard microeconomics more or less avoids, like nonprofit sectors of market economies, altruism, or externalities. Here, the authors broaden the scope of microeconomics while treating standard profit maximization as a special case. They argue, ultimately, that the generalizing criterion is a Darwinian maximization of the probability of survival.

Book Synopsis New Trends in Finance and Accounting by : David Procházka
Download or read book New Trends in Finance and Accounting written by David Procházka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-25 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most current trends in the field of finance and accounting from an international perspective. Featuring contributions presented at the 17th Annual Conference on Finance and Accounting at the University of Economics in Prague, this title provides a mix of research methods used to uncover the hidden consequences of accounting convergence in the private (IFRS) and public sectors (IPSAS). Topics covered include international taxation (from both the micro- and macroeconomic level), international investment, monetary economics, risk management, management accounting, auditing, investment capital, corporate finance and banking, among others. The global business environment shapes the international financial flows of finance and the demand for international harmonization of accounting. As such, the field of global finance and accounting has encountered some new challenges. For example, policy-makers and regulators are forced to restructure their tools to tackle with new features of trading at global capital markets and international investment. This book complements this global view of development with country-specific studies, focusing on emerging and transitioning economies, which are affected indirectly and in unforeseen ways. The combination of global perspective and local specifics makes this volume attractive and useful to academics, researchers, regulators and policy-makers in the field of finance and accounting.

Book Synopsis Methodology of Social Sciences by : František Ochrana
Download or read book Methodology of Social Sciences written by František Ochrana and published by Charles University in Prague, Karolinum Press. This book was released on 2015-08-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The methodology of science is of a crucial importance for the building of science as a whole as well as for the forming of the different scientific branches. That is, it seeks (among other things) to find out what is the nature of the “scientific image of the world,” what is the substance of the “scientific law,” what methods and procedures could and should be used within scientific research. In the field of social sciences, these issues are also associated with the question of the nature of clarifying statements that social sciences provide. Are the statements of social sciences similar to the explanations from natural sciences, or is it rather a revelation of the meaning and understanding of social phenomena based on a clarification of the system of rules? Is social cognition by its nature a causal explanation and is it rather an interpretation? All these are questions of the methodological nature that show the way towards the answer with respect to the character of the resulting scientific statement based on the examined issues, and based on what the given scientific statement provides evidence. This publication attempts to look for the answers to these questions and to establish possible grounds for their solutions.

Book Synopsis Microeconometrics and MATLAB: An Introduction by : Abi Adams
Download or read book Microeconometrics and MATLAB: An Introduction written by Abi Adams and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-01-14 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a practical guide for theory-based empirical analysis in economics that guides the reader through the first steps when moving between economic theory and applied research. The book provides a hands-on introduction to some of the techniques that economists use for econometric estimation and shows how to convert a selection of standard and advanced estimators into MATLAB code. The book first provides a brief introduction to MATLAB and its syntax, before moving into microeconometric applications studied in undergraduate and graduate econometrics courses. Along with standard estimation methods such as, for example, Method of Moments, Maximum Likelihood, and constrained optimisation, the book also includes a series of chapters examining more advanced research methods. These include discrete choice, discrete games, dynamic models on a finite and infinite horizon, and semi- and nonparametric methods. In closing, it discusses more advanced features that can be used to optimise use of MATLAB, including parallel computing. Each chapter is structured around a number of worked examples, designed for the reader to tackle as they move through the book. Each chapter ends with a series of readings, questions, and extensions, designed to help the reader on their way to adapting the examples in the book to fit their own research questions.
Book Synopsis Hierarchically Structured Economies by : Willy Spanjers
Download or read book Hierarchically Structured Economies written by Willy Spanjers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In six chapters this book introduces a micro-economic model where trade takes place through a stable structure of bilateral exchange institutions. The main problem in such models is that, for well-known equilibrium concepts, equilibrium may fail to exist in the corresponding game. In this work an adaptation of such models - hierarchically structured economies - is introduced. The possibilities and limitations of the use of the concept of subgame perfect equilibrium within the context of this kind of models is discussed. Furthermore, it is shown that some well-known market forms, viz. Walrasian and monopolistic markets, occur as special cases. A modification of the concept of subgame perfect equilibrium is introduced to formulate and prove a general theorem on the existence of equilibrium in hierarchically structured economies.

Book Synopsis Design of Agent-based Models by : Tomáš Šalamon
Download or read book Design of Agent-based Models written by Tomáš Šalamon and published by Tomáš Bruckner. This book was released on 2011 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although there are plenty of publications dealing with the theory of multi-agent systems and agent-based simulations, information about the practical development of such systems is scarce. The aim of this book is to fill this empty space and to provide knowledge about design and development of agent-based simulations in an easy and comprehensible way. The book begins with the fundamentals of multi-agent systems, agent principles and their interaction, and goes on to discuss the philosophy of agent-based programming. Agent-based models - like any other scientific method - have drawbacks and limitations, which are presented in the book as well. The main portion of the text is then devoted to a description of methodology and best practices for the design and development of agent-based simulation software. The methodology (called Agentology) guides the reader through the entire development process, from the formal definition of the problem, through conceptual modeling and the selection of the particular development platform, to the programming and debugging of the code itself and the final assessment of the model. The visual language as the means of representation of the conceptual model is included. The reader is also presented with a comparison of present multi-agent development environments and tools, which could be helpful for the selection of appropriate development instruments. Given that the theoretical foundation is presented in an accessible way and supported by many practical examples, figures, schemes and source codes, this publication is especially suitable as a textbook for introductory graduate-level courses on multi-agent systems and agent-based modeling. Besides appealing to students and the scientific community, the monograph can aid software architects and developers who are not familiar with agent principles, conveying valuable insights into this distinct computer paradigm.
