Book Synopsis Natural Products by : Kishan Gopal Ramawat
Download or read book Natural Products written by Kishan Gopal Ramawat and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This reference work provides a wealth of information regarding medicinal plants and phytochemicals. It is addressed both to researchers and teachers. The handbook describes phytochemicals, which, by the strictest definition, are chemicals that are produced by plants. During the last decades, more and more groups became actively involved in exploring plants for useful metabolites that lead to the identification of several useful curative agents and many promising molecules to fight and/or prevent diseases, including carcinogenesis and stroke. But when we talk about phytochemicals, there are also medicinal plants where not a single molecule is responsible for the observed properties. This reference work therefore reviews and compiles the information on both these aspects. The volumes contain contributions on phytochemicals and herbal extracts. A large number of natural products obtained from plants and microorganisms is used in cosmetic, drug, flavor and fragrance industries. For this compilation, a range of the most important medicinal herbs and phytochemicals were selected and are described by the recognized authors in the field. The present reference work encompasses the information about well established phytochemicals, biology and biotechnology of medicinal plants or their products, their biosynthesis, novel production strategies, demand and uses, metabolism and bioavailability. There is a surge of information published in recent years on herbal medicine and their pharmacologic effects with single books available on varied subjects. However, all this information is widespread and difficult to overview. Researchers who wish to keep a pace with the rapidly developing field of natural products can now consult this newly compiled handbook to find all information about bioactive molecules and medicinal plants thoroughly compiled in one place!

Book Synopsis Biotransformation studies on bioactive compounds: 25 years of interesting research at the ICCBS by : Mahwish Siddiqui
Download or read book Biotransformation studies on bioactive compounds: 25 years of interesting research at the ICCBS written by Mahwish Siddiqui and published by OAE Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biotransformation of natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic compounds has emerged as a frontier branch of chemical sciences that is progressively being applied in numerous fields. In the present review, we have summarized our biotransformation studies on bioactive compounds from 1997 to 2022. Various microbial and plant cell cultures were used for biocatalytic structural transformations. We present here an overview of biotransformation of 53 compounds belonging to various classes of natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic compounds, published in several leading journals. The structures of the resulting metabolites have been elucidated by detailed spectroscopic studies. Oxidation, reduction, dehydrogenation, chlorination, aromatization, methylation, demethylation, rearrangements, etc. were the main reactions that occurred during the biotransformation processes. Many of the biotransformed products exhibited interesting biological activities. Structural transformations in some cases have also led to improved pharmacokinetic profiles. This review is aimed to provide a focused account of extensive work carried out in our laboratories in this field, as well as the immense potential of biocatalytic transformations in organic chemistry.

Book Synopsis Terpenoids and Steroids by : K H Overton
Download or read book Terpenoids and Steroids written by K H Overton and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 90 years The Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.
