Book excerpt: The artist's biography as told by Metzger himself, a leader of the Auto-Destructive Art and Art Strike movements This publication is a chronological retelling of the life and work of the visionary artist and radical thinker Gustav Metzger (1926-2017) in his own words. He recounts the key moments in his life and career: his Jewish Orthodox childhood in Nuremberg before the Nazis came to power, his arrival in England as part of the Kindertransport, his early development as an artist, and how he came to develop the idea of Auto-Destructive Art and later to coorganize the Destruction in Art Symposium in 1966 and the Art Strike of 1977-80. He also talks about his activism to combat environmental destruction as well as his deep admiration for Vermeer. Published to coincide with the PST ART exhibition, this singular volume is a monument to the rediscovery of Metzger in the 21st century, thanks to the urgency of his artistic position and to the enthusiasm and commitment of Metzger's interlocutor in this book, Hans Ulrich Obrist.

Perfect for readers who enjoyed Adam Silvera’s More Happy than Not. Rose has changed. She still lives in the same neighborhood and goes to the same high school with the same group of kids, but when she woke up today, something was a little different. Her clothes and her hair don’t suit her anymore. The dogs who live upstairs are no longer a terror. She wants to throw a party—this from a girl who hardly ever spoke to her classmates. There’s no more sadness in her life; she’s bursting with happiness. But something still feels wrong to Rose. Because until very recently, she was an entirely different person—a person who’s still there inside her, just beneath the thinnest layer of skin.
Download or read book Nurse Papa written by David Metzger and published by Genz Publishing. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 16 thoughtful meditations, David Metzger, a father and a pediatric oncology nurse, describes the difficult, beautiful, and profound experience of caring for both his patients and his own young children. Metzger brings in the voices of seasoned nurses, young patients, and his patients' parents, each adding a perspective that helps guide him throughout his career. Equally powerful, he invites readers deep into his days, both the joyful and the painful. These experiences plus the familiar struggles and comic blunders of early parenthood result in a moving, sometimes hysterical, often sad, but always honest look at what it truly means to be a caregiver. A unique perspective on the ins-and-outs of working in the medical field, Nurse Papa is not just a book for parents but for anyone who ponders life's big questions.
