Book Synopsis Corruption in a Global Context by : Melchior Powell
Download or read book Corruption in a Global Context written by Melchior Powell and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2019-11-12 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an important survey of the causes and current state of corruption across a range of nations and regions. Delving into the diverse ways in which corruption is being combatted, the book explores and describes efforts to inculcate principles of ethical conduct in citizens, private sector actors and public sector personnel and institutions. Corruption is a global condition that effects every type of government, at every level, and has bewitched scholars of governance from ancient times to the present day. The book brings together chapters on a range of state and regional corruption experiences, framing them in terms of efforts to enhance ethical conduct and achieve integrity in government practices and operations. In addition, the book addresses and analyses the theoretical and practical bases of ethics that form the background and historical precepts of efforts to create integrity in government practices, and finally assesses recent international efforts to address corruption on an international scale. This book will be perfect for researchers and upper level students of public administration, comparative government, international development, criminal justice, and corruption.
Book Synopsis The Nature of Inquisitorial Processes in Administrative Regimes by : Laverne Jacobs
Download or read book The Nature of Inquisitorial Processes in Administrative Regimes written by Laverne Jacobs and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ’Inquisitorial processes’ refers to the inquiry powers of administrative governance and this book examines the use of these powers in administrative law across seven jurisdictions. The book brings together recent developments in mixed inquisitorial-adversarial administrative decision-making on a hitherto neglected area of comparative administrative process and institutional design. Reaching important conclusions about their own jurisdictions and raising questions which may be explored in others, the book's chapters are comparative. They explore the terminology and scope of the concept of inquisitorial process, justifications for the use of inquiry powers, the effectiveness of inquisitorial processes and the implications of the adoption of such powers. The book will set in motion continued dialogue about the inherent challenges of balancing policy goals, fairness, resources and institutional design within administrative law decision-making by offering theoretical, practical and empirical analyses. This will be a valuable book to government policy-makers, administrative law decision-makers, lawyers and academics.

Book excerpt: An innovative and exciting approach to the study of Australian politics that is guaranteed to spark students' interest.' Professor Carol Johnson, University of Adelaide Powerscape is an engaging study of power relationships in the Australian political system and the community at large.' Alex Karolis, Public Administration Today Powerscape is an introduction to Australian politics designed for today's students. It outlines the core political institutions and processes, and also analyses contemporary political issues and debates. Powerscape tells the story of a dynamic political system, and of high levels of public engagement. Despite the prevailing view that political participation in the 21st century in many liberal-democracies is subdued, this book reveals complex interactions with political processes by a wide range of players. Organised in three parts: power and democracy, political actors, and policy processes, Powerscape systematically investigates the role of power in political life. Each chapter is introduced by a snapshot', a detailed example based on a current issue or recent event. With extended analysis of the change of government at the 2007 federal election, this second edition has been fully updated. It includes new examples, and new chapters on political institutions and policy-making.

Book Synopsis Managing the Coordination of Service Delivery in Metropolitan Cities: the Role of Metropolitan Governance by : Enid Slack
Download or read book Managing the Coordination of Service Delivery in Metropolitan Cities: the Role of Metropolitan Governance written by Enid Slack and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This paper examines different models of governing structure found in metropolitan areas around the world. It evaluates how well these models achieve the coordination of service delivery over the entire metropolitan area as well as the extent to which they result in the equitable sharing of costs of services. Based on theory and case studies from numerous cities in developed and less developed countries, the paper concludes that there is no "one size fits all" model of metropolitan governance. Other observations from the case studies highlight the importance of the process of implementing a metropolitan structure, the need to match fiscal resources with expenditure responsibilities, the need to have a governance structure that covers the entire economic region, and the critical importance of having a strong regional structure that ensures that services are delivered in a coordinated fashion across municipal boundaries.
