Book Synopsis Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology by : George W. Ware
Download or read book Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology written by George W. Ware and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global attention in scientific, industrial, and governmental commumtIes to traces of toxic chemicals in foodstuffs and in both abiotic. and biotic environ ments has justified the present triumvirate of specialized publications in this field: comprehensive reviews, rapidly published progress reports, and archival documentations. These three publications are integrated and scheduled to pro vide in international communication the coherency essential for nonduplicative and current progress in a field as dynamic and complex as environmental con tamination and toxicology. Until now there has been no journal or other publica tion series reserved exclusively for the diversified literature on "toxic" chemicals in our foods, our feeds, our geographical surroundings, our domestic animals, our wildlife, and ourselves. Around the world immense efforts and many talents have been mobilized to technical and other evaluations of natures, locales, magnitudes, fates, and toxicology of the persisting residues of these chemicals loosed upon the world. Among the sequelae of this broad new emphasis has been an inescapable need for an articulated set of authoritative publications where one could expect to find the latest important world literature produced by this emerging area of science together with documentation of pertinent ancil lary legislation.

Book Synopsis Diversity of Environmental Biogeochemistry by : J. Berthelin
Download or read book Diversity of Environmental Biogeochemistry written by J. Berthelin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biogeochemistry, still in its formative stage twenty years ago, is now a young, interdisciplinary subfield of earth sciences, life sciences and chemistry. An international scientific association (International Symposia on Environmental Biogeochemistry incorporated - ISEB) was founded to organize international symposia to bring together microbiologists, biologists, chemists, geochemists, soil scientists, oceanographers, ecologists and environmental engineers interested in the biogeochemistry of terrestrial, aquatic and atmospheric environments. After the 8th ISEB held in Nancy, France, this volume was compiled. These fifty selected contributions from specialists of varying backgrounds and interests show the diversity and the common framework of the direct or indirect interactions of living organisms and their abiotic environments.
Book Synopsis Classes of Pesticides by : Wayland J. Hayes Jr.
Download or read book Classes of Pesticides written by Wayland J. Hayes Jr. and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Pesticide Toxicology, Volume 3: Classes of Pesticides focuses on the properties, toxicity, classes, and reactions of pesticides. The selection first offers information on carbamate insecticides, nitro compounds and related phenolic pesticides, and synthetic organic rodenticides. Discussions focus on miscellaneous synthetic organic rodenticides, fluoroacetic acid and its derivatives, mononitrophenols, dinitrophenols, classification of carbamates, and toxicology of anticholinesterase carbamates. The book then examines herbicides and fungicides and related compounds. Topics include nitrogen heterocyclic fungicides not otherwise classified, hydrazines, hydrozones, and diazo fungicides, anilino and nitrobenzenoid fungicides, antibiotics and botanicals, organic phosphorus herbicides, carbamate herbicides, and herbicidal oils and simple aliphatics. The publication elaborates on miscellaneous pesticides, including repellents, synthetic molluscicides, inhibitors of chitin synthesis, chemosterilants, and synthetic acaricides. The selection is a valuable source of data for researchers interested in pesticide toxicology.

Book Synopsis Basic and Applied Mutagenesis by : A. Muhammed
Download or read book Basic and Applied Mutagenesis written by A. Muhammed and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the editors of this volume is to use basic and ap plied studies in the field of mutagenesis to approach a problem of especial concern. The problem is that of the usage of toxic chemi cals, particularly agricultural chemicals, in ever-increasing quan tities in those parts of the world that feed the most people. Agri cultural chemicals that are in use in Pakistan are emphasized here. These are the same chemicals that are in use throughout the develop ing world, although the quantities of the different types that are used may vary from country to country, and from region to region within countries. A number of these chemicals can no longer be sold in Europe or in the United States, and it is often difficult to iden tify a scientific reason as to why they are sold at all. It is ironic that toxic chemicals are used as a humanitarian device to rid the world of Pestilence and Famine -- two of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. If we do not wish poisonous chemicals to become the fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse, then we must begin now to identify and regulate the large-scale usage of toxic sub stances everywhere.
