Book excerpt: En el presente trabajo se desarrolla y propone una metodología para el diseño y análisis de sistemas de tuberías sometidas a cambios de temperatura, la cual apoya la toma de decisiones con criterios y reglas desarrolladas a partir de los métodos analíticos existentes y resultados obtenidos de diseños de experimentos realizados con simulaciones computacionales a sistemas de tuberías con diversas geometrías. De las técnicas analíticas se tomaron criterios y principios para desarrollar y modificar ecuaciones existentes que sirvan de guía al diseñador o analista a fin de poder predecir el comportamiento de sistemas de tuberías sometidas a cambios de temperatura ante modificaciones de geometría y soportes. A diferencia del uso que se les daba en tiempos pasados a los métodos analíticos, estos no se requieren para determinar los valores de berzas, esfuerzos y momentos en los accesorios del sistema, sino para realizar cálculos rápidos que nos permitan predecir en forma muy general el comportamiento del sistema de tuberías de forma que nos sirva de guía, para tomar decisiones acertadas y finalmente con la ayuda de programas de simulación conocer a detalle las cargas (fuerzas, esfuerzos y momentos) que se producen por efecto de la expansión térmica. Del diseño de experimentos se obtuvieron correlaciones que complementan las ecuaciones obtenidas de los métodos analíticos a fin de predecir el efecto de realizar modificaciones a la geometría del sistema que no puede ser analizadas con las ecuaciones analíticas. Finalmente se puede decir que utilizando las ecuaciones modificadas de los métodos analíticos y las correlaciones de los diseños de experimentos, podremos predecir en forma muy general el comportamiento de los sistemas de tuberías expuestos a expansión térmica y con la ayuda de la computadora podremos corroborar que los valores estén dentro de los admisibles por los códigos, logrando una sinergia entre ambos métodos. Además de estas reglas y ecuaciones, la metodología que se presenta en esta tesis, proporciona una serie de pasos a seguir por el diseñador con el fin de realizar el análisis del sistema en forma estructurada y detectar los posibles problemas del diseño lo antes posible y con una menor perdida de tiempo.
