This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

A list of acronyms occurring frequently in Bank texts (the terms to which they refer being found in the Glossary) and a list of international, regional, and national organizations will be found at the end of the Glossary.

Book excerpt: The Communication Lexicon is a new concept; it is a new source of information in the field of language and area studies. Its focus is on people's way of thinking, their frame of reference, their characteristic outlook on life. Compared to the more traditional area studies, our main focus is not on history or religion or geography, not on tangible material realities of existence in a particular country, but rather on people's shared subjective views of those real ities which are dominant in their minds. The focus of the analysis is essentially psychological; it is centered on perceptions and motivations which influence people's choices and behavior. Compared to individual psychology, the information repre sented by this volume is psycho-cultural in that it is centered on the shared perceptions and motivations which people with the same language, backgrounds, and experiences develop together into a shared cultural view or subjective representation of their universe. The attention psycho-cultural factors are receiving these days follows from the growing realization that their influences are powerful and yet they occur without people's awareness. Based on extensive empirical data produced through an analytic technique of indepth assessment, the Communication Lexicon presents the culturally characteristic system of meanings which members of a particular cultural community develop in construing their world. At the level of specifics the lexicon describes how selected themes such as family, society, work, and entertainment are perceived and understood by members of three cultures: Mexicans, Colombians, and U.S.

Book Synopsis Pathology of Domestic Animals by : K. V. F. Jubb
Download or read book Pathology of Domestic Animals written by K. V. F. Jubb and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 494 pages. Book excerpt: Pathology of Domestic Animals, Volume 1 elaborates on the bone structure and diseases, as well as the genital, circulatory, and respiratory systems, of domestic animals. The manuscript first offers information on bones, joints, and synovial structures and diseases of joints, including adaptational deformities of the skeleton, metabolic diseases of bones, necrosis and inflammation of bones, and discontinuities of bone and the healing of fractures. The text then ponders on the circulatory and respiratory systems. Discussions focus on congenital anomalies of the heart and large vessels, myocardium, hypertrophy and dilation of the heart, pharynx and guttural pouches, larynx and trachea, lungs, and pleura and mediastinum. The publication examines the haemopoietic system and endocrine glands. Topics include blood and bone marrow, general reactions of erythrocytes to injury, lymphoreticular tissues, adrenal glands and paraganglia, and polycythaemia. The book then reviews the male and female genital systems. The manuscript is a valuable source of data for readers interested in the pathology of domestic animals.
Download or read book History of Animals written by Aristotle and published by Aeterna Press. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We know that Aristotle spent two years in Mitylene, when he was about forty years old: that is to say, some three years after the death of Plato, just after his sojourn with Hermias of Atarneus, just prior to his residence at the court of Philip, and some ten years before he returned to Athens to begin teaching in the Lyceum (Dion. Hal. Ep. I ad Ammaeum, p. 727 R). Throughout the Natural History references to places in Greece are few, while they are comparatively frequent to places in Macedonia and to places on the coast of Asia Minor, all the way from the Bosphorus to the Carian coast. I think it can be shown that Aristotle’s natural history studies were carried on, or mainly carried on, in his middle age, between his two periods of residence in Athens; that the calm, landlocked lagoon at Pyrrha was one of his favourite hunting-grounds; and that his short stay in Euboea, during the last days of his life, has left little if any impress on his zoological writings. Book Synopsis Intellectual Curiosity and the Scientific Revolution by : Toby E. Huff
Download or read book Intellectual Curiosity and the Scientific Revolution written by Toby E. Huff and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-10-11 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventeenth-century Europe witnessed an extraordinary flowering of discoveries and innovations. This study, beginning with the Dutch-invented telescope of 1608, casts Galileo's discoveries into a global framework. Although the telescope was soon transmitted to China, Mughal India, and the Ottoman Empire, those civilizations did not respond as Europeans did to the new instrument. In Europe, there was an extraordinary burst of innovations in microscopy, human anatomy, optics, pneumatics, electrical studies, and the science of mechanics. Nearly all of those aided the emergence of Newton's revolutionary grand synthesis, which unified terrestrial and celestial physics under the law of universal gravitation. That achievement had immense implications for all aspects of modern science, technology, and economic development. The economic implications are set out in the concluding epilogue. All these unique developments suggest why the West experienced a singular scientific and economic ascendancy of at least four centuries.
