Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the Proceedings of the Twelfth International Congress of Applied Mechanics, held at Stanford University on August 26 to 31, 1968. The Congress was organized by the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics; members of the IUTAM Congress Committee and Bureau are listed under Congress Organization. The members of the Stanford Organizing Committee, which was responsible for the detailed organization of the Congress, are also given, as are the names of the sponsors and the industrial and educational organizations that contributed so generously to the financial support of the meeting. Those attending the Congress came from 32 countries and totaled 1337 persons, plus wives and children. A list of the registered participants is included in the volume. The technical sessions of the Congress comprised four General Lectures and 281 contributed papers, the latter being presented in groups of five simultaneous sessions. The final choice of the contributed papers was made on the basis of abstracts by an International Papers Commit tee of IUTAM consülting of G. K. BATCHELOR, E. BECKER, N. J. HOFF, and W. T. KOlTER.
Book Synopsis Equations of Mathematical Physics by : A. S. Demidov
Download or read book Equations of Mathematical Physics written by A. S. Demidov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-27 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This concise volume presents an overview of equations of mathematical physics and generalized functions. While intended for advanced readers, the accessible introduction and text structure allows beginners to study at their own pace as the material gradually increases in difficulty. The text introduces the concept of generalized Sobolev functions and L. Schwartz distributions briefly in the opening section, gradually approaching a more in-depth study of the “generalized” differential equation (also known as integral equality). In contrast to the traditional presentation of generalized Sobolev functions and L. Schwartz distributions, this volume derives the topology from two natural requirements (which are equivalent to it). The text applies the same approach to the theory of the canonical Maslov operator. It also features illustrative drawings and helpful supplementary reading in the footnotes concerning historical and bibliographic information related to the subject of the book. Additionally, the book devotes a special chapter to the application of the theory of pseudodifferential operators and Sobolev spaces to the inverse magneto/electroencephalography problem. Explicit numerically realizable formulas related to the Cauchy problem for elliptic equations (including quasilinear ones) and also to the Poincaré--Steklov operators are presented. The book is completed by three additions, which were written by famous mathematicians Yu. V. Egorov, A. B. Antonevich, and S. N. Samborski.
Book Synopsis Mathematical Methods In Electromagnetism: Linear Theory And Applications by : Michel Cessenat
Download or read book Mathematical Methods In Electromagnetism: Linear Theory And Applications written by Michel Cessenat and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-07-13 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with basic tools to solve problems of electromagnetism in their natural functional frameworks thanks to modern mathematical methods: integral surface methods, and also semigroups, variational methods, etc., well adapted to a numerical approach. As examples of applications of these tools and concepts, we solve several fundamental problems of electromagnetism, stationary or time-dependent: scattering of an incident wave by an obstacle, bounded or not, by gratings; wave propagation in a waveguide, with junctions and cascades. We hope that mathematical notions will allow a better understanding of modelization in electromagnetism and emphasize the essential features related to the geometry and nature of materials.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Methods for Science and Technology by : Robert Dautray
Download or read book Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Methods for Science and Technology written by Robert Dautray and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 6 volumes - the result of a 10 year collaboration between the authors, two of France's leading scientists and both distinguished international figures - compile the mathematical knowledge required by researchers in mechanics, physics, engineering, chemistry and other branches of application of mathematics for the theoretical and numerical resolution of physical models on computers. Since the publication in 1924 of the "Methoden der mathematischen Physik" by Courant and Hilbert, there has been no other comprehensive and up-to-date publication presenting the mathematical tools needed in applications of mathematics in directly implementable form. The advent of large computers has in the meantime revolutionised methods of computation and made this gap in the literature intolerable: the objective of the present work is to fill just this gap. Many phenomena in physical mathematics may be modeled by a system of partial differential equations in distributed systems: a model here means a set of equations, which together with given boundary data and, if the phenomenon is evolving in time, initial data, defines the system. The advent of high-speed computers has made it possible for the first time to calculate values from models accurately and rapidly. Researchers and engineers thus have a crucial means of using numerical results to modify and adapt arguments and experiments along the way. Every facet of technical and industrial activity has been affected by these developments. Modeling by distributed systems now also supports work in many areas of physics (plasmas, new materials, astrophysics, geophysics), chemistry and mechanics and is finding increasing use in the life sciences.
Book Synopsis Methods of the Theory of Functions of Many Complex Variables by : Vasiliy Sergeyevich Vladimirov
Download or read book Methods of the Theory of Functions of Many Complex Variables written by Vasiliy Sergeyevich Vladimirov and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This systematic exposition outlines the fundamentals of the theory of single sheeted domains of holomorphy. It further illustrates applications to quantum field theory, the theory of functions, and differential equations with constant coefficients. Students of quantum field theory will find this text of particular value. The text begins with an introduction that defines the basic concepts and elementary propositions, along with the more salient facts from the theory of functions of real variables and the theory of generalized functions. Subsequent chapters address the theory of plurisubharmonic functions and pseudoconvex domains, along with characteristics of domains of holomorphy. These explorations are further examined in terms of four types of domains: multiple-circular, tubular, semitubular, and Hartogs' domains. Surveys of integral representations focus on the Martinelli-Bochner, Bergman-Weil, and Bochner representations. The final chapter is devoted to applications, particularly those involved in field theory. It employs the theory of generalized functions, along with the theory of functions of several complex variables.

Book Synopsis Problems and Methods of Econometrics by : Ragnar Frisch
Download or read book Problems and Methods of Econometrics written by Ragnar Frisch and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-06-02 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of economics changed dramatically during the twentieth century with the emergence of econometrics, macroeconomics and a more scientific approach in general. One of the key individuals in the transformation of economics was Ragnar Frisch, professor at the University of Oslo and the first Nobel Laureate in economics in 1969. He was a co-founder of the Econometric Society in 1930 (after having coined the word econometrics in 1926) and edited the journal Econometrics for twenty-two years. The discovery of the manuscripts of a series of eight lectures given by Frisch at the Henri Poincaré Institute in March–April 1933 on The Problems and Methods of Econometrics will enable economists to more fully understand his overall vision of econometrics. This book is a rare exhibition of Frisch’s overview on econometrics and is published here in English for the first time. Edited and with an introduction by Olav Bjerkholt and Ariane Dupont-Kieffer, Frisch’s eight lectures provide an accessible and astute discussion of econometric issues from philosophical foundations to practical procedures. Concerning the development of economics in the twentieth century and the broader visions about economic science in general and econometrics in particular held by Ragnar Frisch, this book will appeal to anyone with an interest in the history of economics and econometrics.
