This book was released on 1997 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: L'OBJECTIF DE CETTE ETUDE EST DE REALISER UN DEPOT CONDUCTEUR PAR PROJECTION PLASMA SOUS AIR SUR UN COMPOSITE CARBONE/EPOXY ET DE CONTRIBUER A L'ETUDE DU NOUVEAU MATERIAU OBTENU. LA NATURE DU PROCEDE AINSI QUE CELLE DU SUBSTRAT NOUS ONT AMENE A ETUDIER PLUS PARTICULIEREMENT LES ECHANGES THERMIQUES ENTRE LA TORCHE ET LE COMPOSITE. DES MESURES ONT AINSI ETE FAITES A L'AIDE D'UN SYSTEME DE MESURE ENTIEREMENT CONCU ET DEVELOPPE POUR CETTE APPLICATION. LA FORMATION D'UN DEPOT CONTINU NECESSITE UNE PREPARATION DE SURFACE ADAPTEE. LA SOLUTION RETENUE CONSISTE EN L'ADJONCTION D'UNE SOUS-COUCHE THERMOPLASTIQUE COMPATIBLE A LA FOIS AVEC LE METAL PROJETE ET LE COMPOSITE. CELA PERMET D'OBTENIR RAPIDEMENT UN DEPOT CONTINU, LIMITANT AINSI LE RISQUE D'ECHAUFFEMENT CRITIQUE DU COMPOSITE. LE MECANISME DE CONSTRUCTION ET DE REFROIDISSEMENT DU DEPOT EST ALORS ANALYSE ET EXPLICITE, CE QUI PERMET DE MIEUX CERNER LES CONDITIONS OPTIMALES D'OBTENTION D'UN TEL DEPOT ET L'IMPORTANCE DES DIVERS PARAMETRES. L'ETUDE PLUS PARTICULIERE D'UNE COUCHE OBTENUE A L'AIDE D'UNE POUDRE DE CUIVRE MONTRE QUE, BIEN QU'IL SE FORME DE LA CUPRITE LORS DE LA PROJECTION, LE DEPOT RESTE PRINCIPALEMENT METALLIQUE ET GARDE DONC DE BONNES PROPRIETES DE CONDUCTEUR ELECTRIQUE. ENFIN, L'IMPACT DU PROCEDE SUR LES PROPRIETES MECANIQUES DU COMPOSITE EST DISCUTE A L'AIDE D'ESSAIS DE FLEXION ET D'OBSERVATIONS MICROSCOPIQUES.

This book was released on 1997 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LA DIFFICULTE DE METALLISER LES MATERIAUX COMPOSITES EST MULTIPLE : HETEROGENEITE DU SYSTEME RENFORT-RESINE, MULTIPLICITE DES SYSTEMES ET DES PARAMETRES DE FABRICATION, RESPECT DE L'INTEGRITE DU SUBSTRAT POUR LES COMPOSITES DE STRUCTURES. EN DEPOSANT UNE INTERPHASE METALLISABLE, UNE PARTIE DU PROBLEME EST ELIMINEE. POUR L'ETUDE, DEUX TYPES DE COMPOSITES (VERRE ET CARBONE/EPOXY) ET D'INTERPHASES (FILM ET POUDRE DE NATURE EPOXYDE) ONT ETE RETENUS. L'ELECTROLYTE UTILISE EST ALCALIN ET A BASE DE PERMANGANATE DE POTASSIUM. LES CONDITIONS DE DECAPAGE SONT DETERMINEES DE FACON A CE QUE L'INTERPHASE MISE EN PLACE PROTEGE LE SUBSTRAT COMPOSITE ET QUE L'ADHERENCE D'UN REVETEMENT DE CUIVRE SOIT DE CLASSE 0 AU TEST DE SCARIFICATION. L'OBJECTIF MAJEUR DE CE TRAVAIL A ETE DE COMPRENDRE LE ROLE DU DECAPAGE PERMANGANATE SUR LES DEUX INTERPHASES, TANT DU POINT DE VUE CHIMIQUE QUE GEOMETRIQUE, SUR L'ADHERENCE D'UN REVETEMENT METALLIQUE MESUREE PAR PELAGE. DU POINT DE VUE CHIMIQUE, DES ANALYSES DE SURFACE (XPS ET IR-ATR) METTENT EN EVIDENCE LA MISE A NU DES CHARGES MINERALES INCORPOREES AUX INTERPHASES. LES OXYDATIONS DE LA CHAINE CARBONEE DU FILM ET DE LA POUDRE SONT SUSCEPTIBLES DE FORMER DES LIAISONS CHIMIQUES ENTRE LE REVETEMENT DE CUIVRE ET LE POLYMERE. LA MOUILLABILITE DES INTERPHASES EST AFFECTE PAR LA PRESENCE DE CES CHARGES MINERALES. LA TECHNIQUE DE MISE EN PLACE DU FILM SUR LE COMPOSITE INFLUE EGALEMENT SUR LA MESURE DE L'ANGLE DE RACCORDEMENT (SUR ECHANTILLON NON DECAPE). DU POINT DE VUE MECANIQUE, DES MESURES DE RESISTANCE AU PELAGE D'UN DEPOT DE CUIVRE SONT CORRELEES A DES CRITERES CARACTERISTIQUES DE L'AMPLITUDE VERTICALE MOYENNE DE LA RUGOSITE (R#Z) ET DE SA MORPHOLOGIQUE (S#K,E#K). L'OUTIL METROLOGIQUE CONSISTE EN UNE TECHNIQUE DE MESURE TRIDIMENSIONNELLE D'ETAT DE SURFACE COUPLEE A UNE LOCALISATION PRECISE D'UNE MEME ZONE TOUT AU LONG DU DECAPAGE AFIN DE SUIVRE L'EVOLUTION MICRO-GEOMETRIQUE DES DEUX INTERPHASES.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am pleased to present a work which marks a milestone in the history of public works and, more precisely, in that of permanent structures—a comprehensive dictionary of Civil Engineering terms. Since the beginning of time, Man has always tried to find a means to clear the obstacles which nature erected to displace him. With the first tree trunk thrown across a river, man sought to improve the crossing structure. After the invention of the wheel, and to satisfy his thirst for conquest (Roman ways), and comfort (aqueducts), man built bridges that became a preremptory necessity to move quickly. Thus, Man started to build wooden and masonry works. With the passing centuries, the builders became masters in the art of building masonry works. Then came the Industrial Revolution and the advent of the steel (1864), which was closely followed by the invention of the reinforced concrete (1855). The need for railways and improving the road network inspired great works of crossing such as viaducts and tunnels. The boom of the railway network and the development of the car required the construction of an increasing number of new structures. This phenomenon continues today with hundreds of structures built each year throughout the world.

Book excerpt: Nanoscience and Nanotechnology are experiencing a rapid development in many aspects, like real-space atomic-scale imaging, atomic and molecular manipulation, nano-fabrication, etc. , which will have a profound impact not only in every field of research, but also on everyday life in the twenty-first century. The common efforts of researchers from different countries and fields of science can bring complementary expertise to solve the rising problems in order to take advantage of the nanoscale approaches in Materials Science. Nanostructured materials, i. e. materials made with atomic accuracy, show unique properties as a consequence of nanoscale size confinement, predominance of interfacial phenomena and quantum effects. Therefore, by reducing the dimensions of a structure to nanosize, many inconceivable properties will appear and may lead to different novel applications from na- electronics and nanophotonics to nanobiological systems and nanomedicine. All this requires the contribution of multidisciplinary teams of physicists, chemists, materials scientists, engineers and biologists to work together on the synthesis and processing of nanomaterials and nanostructures, und- standing the properties related to the nanoscale, the design of nano-devices as well as of new tools for the characterization of nano-structured materials. The first objective of the NATO ASI on Nanostructured Materials for Advanced Technological Applications was to assess the up-to-date achie- ments and future perspectives of application of novel nanostructured materials, focusing on the relationships material structure ? functional properties ? possible applications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis· seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) *at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac· tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 20 (thesis year 1975) a total of 10,374 theses titles from 28 Canadian and 239 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. The organization of Volume 20 is identical to that of past years. It consists of theses titles arranged by discipline and by university within each discipline.

Staff at Harvard Art Museums' Center for Conservation and Technical Research oversaw repairs and remounting of these large yet fragil works in preparation for a major exhibition at the Arthur M. Sackler Museum in August 1988. They were removed from the dining room of Harvard's Holyoke Center where they had hung since 1963 (a gift from the artist), suffering from tears, stains, graffiti, and severe color shifts from exposure to sunlight and instability in the artist's materials.(Harvard University Art Museums)
