Book Synopsis Corrosion and Corrosion Control by : R. Winston Revie
Download or read book Corrosion and Corrosion Control written by R. Winston Revie and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-05-16 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic book on corrosion science and engineering—now in a valuable new edition The ability to prevent failures by managing corrosion is one of the main global challengesof the twenty-first century. However, most practicing engineers and technologists have only a basic understanding of how they can actively participate in this urgent economic and environmental issue. Now, students and professionals can turn to this newly revised edition of the trusted Corrosion and Corrosion Control for coverage of the latest developments in the field, including advances in knowledge, new alloys for corrosion control, and industry developments in response to public demand. This Fourth Edition presents an updated overview of the essential aspects of corrosion science and engineering that underpin the tools and technologies used for managing corrosion, enhancing reliability, and preventing failures. Although the basic organization of the book remains unchanged from the previous edition, this new update includes: An introduction to new topics, including the element of risk management in corrosion engineering and new advanced alloys for controlling corrosion Expanded discussions on electrochemical polarization, predicting corrosion using thermodynamics, steel reinforcements in concrete, and applications of corrosion control technologies in automotive, nuclear, and other industries A stronger emphasis on environmental concerns and regulations in the context of their impact on corrosion engineering A discussion of the challenge of reliability in nuclear reactors; stainless steels; the concept of critical pitting temperature; and information on critical pitting potential (CPP) Complemented with numerous examples to help illustrate important points, Corrosion and Corrosion Control, Fourth Edition enables readers to fully understand corrosion and its control and, in turn, help reduce massive economic and environmental loss. It is a must-read for advanced undergraduates and graduate students in engineering and materials science courses, as well as for engineers, technologists, researchers, and other professionals who need information on this timely topic.
Book Synopsis Corrosion Control Through Organic Coatings by : Amy Forsgren
Download or read book Corrosion Control Through Organic Coatings written by Amy Forsgren and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-04-25 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choosing the most suitable coatings for structures such as bridges and building supports can extend the service life of that structure significantly. Corrosion Control Through Organic Coatings discusses the most important variables in the testing, selection, and application of heavy-duty, organic corrosion-protection paints. The book addresses the maintenance and restoration of older infrastructure and industrial plant as well as coatings for new structures made from various types of steel. The author, Amy Forsgren, examines the mechanisms of aging and deterioration caused by ultraviolet light, condensation, temperature, and chemical reactions. She also provides a complete description of composition of anti-corrosive organic coatings, including pigments, binders, and additives. Ms. Forsgren suggests which corrosion tests provide the most useful information on coating performance and corrosion-protection. Several chapters review the advantages and disadvantages of of different surface preparation methods. In addition, the author considers the environmental impact of various coatings and recognizes health hazards posed by volatile organic compounds (VOC's), toxic or hazardous pigments such as lead, and silica dust exposure. She also offers recommendations for providing safe working environments for personnel handling surface preparation. Integrating engineering aspects and corrosion expertise with paint formulation knowledge and surface chemistry, Corrosion Control Through Organic Coatings provides unique coverage of the most advanced treatments for extending the life span of heavy-duty metal structures today.

Download or read book Corrosion written by L. L. Shreir and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1994 with total page 1488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion science is probably unique in crossing the borders of almost all technologies and since 1963 'Corrosion' has been the leading source of information on the subject. It provides an encyclopedic coverage of corrosion science and technology and is an essential first point of reference for everyone in the field. The science has advanced significantly in the seventeen years since the publication of the second edition and this new edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect this. 'Corrosion' is a two-volume reference work embracing a vast range of topics including high-temperature and aqueous corrosion and their control. It was first published in 1963 by George Newnes Ltd and over the years it has gained an international reputation. This edition extends to over 2700 pages, and contains 138 sections all written by specialists. It follows the format of previous editions, some sections have been completely rewritten, whilst others have been altered and extended. New sections have been added to cover areas not previously included. Lionel Shreir, who wrote the first two editions, has been joined by two editors, Ray Jarman and Tim Burstein, to produce this unique work. Although he did not live to see its publication it is hoped that this book serves as a fitting tribute to his memory.
