During the fall and winter of 1851 and 1852 - the officers and directors were elected, comprising among their number many gentlemen whose names now appear as friends of our institution. After having furnished rooms for the accommodation of readers, and expended a considerable sum for reading matter, furniture, &c., the enterprise was abandoned until such time as increase of numbers and interest should warrant its friends 1n encountering the heavy expenses necessary, at that time, to such undertaking.
