(Thomas) Troward The Hidden Power To realise fully how much of our present daily life consists in symbols is to find the answer to the old, old question, What is Truth? and in the degree in which we begin to recognise this we begin to approach Truth. The realisation of Truth consists in the ability to translate symbols, whether natural or conventional, into their equivalents; and the root of all the errors of mankind consists in the inability to do this, and in maintaining that the symbol has nothing behind it. The great duty incumbent on all who have attained to this knowledge is to impress upon their fellow men that there is an inner side to things, and that until this inner side is known, the things themselves are not known. There is an inner and an outer side to everything; and the quality of the superficial mind which causes it to fail in the attainment of Truth is its willingness to rest content with the outside only. So long as this is the case it is impossible for a man to grasp the import of his own relation to the universal, and it is this relation which constitutes all that is signified by the word "Truth." So long as a man fixes his attention only on the superficial it is impossible for him to make any progress in knowledge. He is denying that principle of "Growth" which is the root of all life, whether spiritual intellectual, or material, for he does not stop to reflect that all which he sees as the outer side of things can result only from some germinal principle hidden deep in the centre of their being. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early "New Age" philosophy of New Thought, which was wildly popular at the turn of the 20th century, owes much of its emphasis on the concept of "mind over matter" to the works of Thomas Troward. In this two-in-one volume, which brings together two of Troward's celebrated books on "mental science," the author-who was renowned for presenting difficult ideas with clarity and enthusiasm-discusses: . the higher mode of intelligence that controls the lower . the unity of the spirit . the subjective and objective minds . the law of growth . intuition and the will . the subconscious mind . individuality . the creative power of thought . and much more. First published in 1909, Troward's writings remain of immense interest to anyone interesting in personal spiritual development. English judge, philosopher, and painter THOMAS TROWARD (1847-1916) lived most of his life in India, in the service of the imperial monarchy. Among his publications, many of which profoundly affected the New Thought movement, are The Law and the Word, Bible Mystery and Meaning, and The Hidden Power and Other Papers Upon Mental Science.

Millions of people today who are using practical psychology in their professional duties, business problems, home relations or personal life gained their first knowledge of how to succeed from the author of these lessons. Not only a teacher, but a teacher of teachers, this pioneer metaphysician gave to hundreds of teachers and healers a vision of what they could do for their students and patients, and a vital impulse and force irresistible and inexhaustible.

Book excerpt: ""Mental Science," therefore, is now offered as an educational manual, and as a compend for the reading of those who would inform themselves respecting the doctrines of an earnest philosophy without entering upon non-essential details. The majority of the discussions have been not merely abridged, but simplified; a considerable number have been entirely re-written. Some chapters, too, which are devoted to logical questions, and which may prove serviceable in connection with some future effort, have been omitted. It has, however, been the aim to present a true theory of every normal activity of the intellect"--Preface

Book excerpt: "The Science of Being Great: The Practical Guide to a Life of Power" is another book by Wallace D. Wattles, published in 1910, following his earlier work "The Science of Getting Rich." While "The Science of Getting Rich" focuses primarily on wealth creation, "The Science of Being Great" delves into the principles of personal greatness and self-realization. Here's an overview: Principles of Greatness: In this book, Wattles outlines the principles and qualities that lead to greatness. He argues that greatness is not reserved for a select few but is attainable by anyone who understands and applies certain fundamental principles. The Power of Thought and Action: Similar to his previous work, Wattles emphasizes the power of thought in shaping one's reality. He asserts that individuals have within them the power to become great and achieve their highest aspirations through the proper use of their mental faculties. However, he also stresses the importance of taking action aligned with one's goals and aspirations. Self-Confidence and Self-Belief: Wattles discusses the importance of self-confidence and self-belief in the pursuit of greatness. He suggests that individuals must cultivate a strong sense of self-worth and belief in their abilities in order to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. Service and Contribution: A central theme in "The Science of Being Great" is the idea that true greatness comes from service to others. Wattles argues that individuals must seek to contribute positively to the world around them and align their goals with the greater good in order to achieve lasting greatness. Continuous Improvement: Wattles emphasizes the importance of continuous self-improvement and growth in the pursuit of greatness. He suggests that individuals should strive to develop their talents and abilities to their fullest potential and be open to new ideas and experiences. "The Science of Being Great" offers practical advice and timeless wisdom for individuals seeking to unlock their full potential and live a life of purpose and power. While less well-known than "The Science of Getting Rich," this book is highly regarded in the self-help and personal development community for its insights into the principles of personal greatness and self-actualization.
