He must not expect everything that falls under the head of Memorials Of Old Shropshire; but if he has the patience to read the volume through, I venture to think he will be in possession of a fairly clear idea of the past history of the county, viewed under several aspects. In the chapters written by myself, and in those contributed by others, I have alike endeavoured to avoid the scrappiness which is too apt to attach to a volume like the present.
