Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As children, we are prisoners to our surroundings. The nature of the people and visuals we see day in and day out are all we know. We don't have a clue what is beyond our realm of existence, and so it is difficult to break out of this sphere. Because of this natural shell, we often choose to stay within the comforts of mediocrity. But God has much more in store for us! All we have to do is choose to break out of this pit and follow His direction. How do we do that? Frances Seymour reveals the irony of mediocrity and its entrapment. Providing examples and encouragements from her own life, as well as poignant questions to meditate on and journal about, she shares simple yet effective ways that we can choose to move forward—to break the grip mediocrity has on our lives. Frances lived and learned many of these life lessons the hard way. Mediocrity to Maturity is as a personal journey through despair that will teach you how applying faith leads to repair—even in the midst of terrible loss.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether by the universal script of the Bible or by personal anecdotes, God shares His commonality of faith and experience. He is the same throughout time to all, even personally. The only flaw is sometimes our script of writing style is inadequate to universal dimensions. The writing here means to be experiential and universal by lovingly implication. By the lines of the woundedness we have that we surrender to Him, He teaches us healing depending on our affliction. The lines of woundedness are across our heart and soul. It comes down to a deeper surrender and touch. He suffered failings at college and work. Finally, he turned to God. He went from his episcopal church to the assemblies of God. There he became honest and felt the healing of a whole spirit. After the sinner's prayer and a second baptism, he felt whole. At the water baptism, he was totally immersed and made a quick prayer before the dunking, "to be in the center of God's will for him." He wanted to speak in tongues so he joined a Life in the Spirit Seminar and received tongues, speaking, and discernment. He became a charismatic Catholic and joined a charismatic Catholic church, Bread of Life. He recorded his discernments in the quiet of his home. In writing, he was expressing the language of the Kingdom of God. His parents grew older, and he cared for them in their elder ages, nineteen years. It was a privilege and an act of love. At that time, his charismatic prayer group, Light in the World, folded. Later, at a nursing home, he was encouraged to publish. He still writes.

Book excerpt: The subject that is treated in this volume has engaged a large part of the attention, not only of psychologists and educationists but also of laymen. It is argued that if nature really endows some children intellectually much more generously than she does others--and the data presented in this volume will convince any fair-minded person that this is the case--the fact is of importance to those who are interested in social advancement as well as to those teachers and parents who are striving to do the best they can for each individual committed to their care. A large amount of scientific material is included in this book; but it is presented in a straightforward, clear, interesting manner; and it may be predicted that this volume will be read easily and with complete comprehension by parents, teachers, and laymen as well as by students of human development and of education. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kiefer presents a comprehensive overview of the key historical concepts of developmental psychology--maturity and maturation. The result of this historical focus is a view of maturity that accounts for both the social forces shaping beliefs and the social consequences of those beliefs. Here is a bridge between developmental psychology, history, and contemporary society. The author begins by presenting his view of the role of ideas in history and the importance of the idea of moral maturity in psychological science, as well as in the process of understanding self. The history of maturity as a moral ideal is presented, beginning with primitive society. Key features of Medieval, Renaissance, Enlightenment, and modern Western society that have influenced ideas of maturity are considered in turn. In part II, Kiefer examines beliefs about the actual process of growth and development from earlier, nonliterate society and into the present. Attempts to unite the philosophic and scientific concepts of development are discussed, such as the Platonic "path of love" as represented by Carol Gilligan, the Aristotelian "path of reason" by Lawrence Kohlberg, and Freud's "path of conflict." Cultural-historical explanations are sought for the particulars of these interplays. In the concluding section, Plato's "four indestructible stages" of maturity and implications of modern life for the attainment of these stages are evaluated. Kiefer makes a plea for an historically self-conscious psychology. By bringing together concepts from anthropology, philosophy, psychology, and history, the author presents a synthetic view of maturing that has fundamental applications in the fields of human development, social gerontology, philosophy, and psychotherapy.

Book excerpt: With this fourth edition of the classic that launched his career, Parker strives to maintain his unprecedented independence, objectivity, clarity, and enthusiasm in reporting on the vintages of Bordeaux. Parker has not only added tastings for the vintages in the intervening years since the last edition, but he has also retasted and reevaluated a majority of the earlier vintages. His accessible and direct style welcomes both the seasoned wine collector and the eager beginner to the pleasures of fine wine and France's most illustrious chateau. Organized by appellation, Bordeaux moves alphabetically from one producer to the next, providing essential information and an overview of the property and its owners. Parker then lists each vintage, and includes numerical ratings and detailed tasting notes for most of that chateau's wines. At the end of each tasting note, Parker estimates the "anticipated maturity"—the range of time when the wine should peak in flavor and balance—and each entry concludes with a summary of the chateau's earlier vintages. Hailed by The New York Times as “the critic who matters most,” Robert Parker's Bordeaux is the most complete consumer's guide to the wines of Bordeaux ever written.

Book excerpt: Stop chasing hot trends and start driving real growth It's Not Rocket Science blasts through the trends and false promises permeating the business world to help you and your company get back to basics and get things done. Why doggedly pursue the "next big thing" when the most effective drivers of growth are right under your nose? This book asserts that you've already heard, been taught, and know well the key fundamentals that spell business success, and presents a compelling, four strategy blueprint for returning your business culture and strategies to a rock solid foundation of execution excellence. Each chapter opens with The Challenge, which outlines a current condition that exists due to a departure from common sense behaviors, and tasks you with following the appropriate execution principles to get your business on the right track. After a thorough explanation of "what" and "why," each chapter gives you the actionable "how" so you can implement these valuable steps and master the art of execution in your organization. Shifting sands do not make for a sustainable structure. If your organization is to be robust and strong enough to weather any storm, the strength must come from the very core; the ability for each member of your team to execute daily and effectively towards your organization's most compelling goals. Frankly, the last things most organizations need is another goal they'll miss because they can't execute well. This book reminds you of the four timeless execution methods and strategies that have proven themselves over centuries, and shows you how they are implemented in today's business environment. Get the leaders right Get the culture right Get the people right Get the process right Today's flash in the pan may be superficially intriguing, but is it really that much different from yesterday's "hot tip"? Fundamentals are fundamental for a reason, and It's Not Rocket Science is the common sense guide to putting away flavor-of-the-month toys and getting down to business.

Bonnie Andersen provides a practical collection of layman's definitions, inspirational thoughts, and probing perspectives meant to stimulate discussion and deepen one's hunger for the riches of God's Word. The book draws from the insights of well-known Bible teachers, as well as Bonnie's personal collection of Bible study and Sunday School notes, devotionals, ministry newsletters, and articles from Christian magazines. Christianeeze for Churchgoers is user-friendly and the contents are presented in a warm and personal style. This is a wonderful gift book for any student of the Bible, and a handy tool to support a classroom setting. This is not meant to be the final source for understanding Bible words, but rather to be a good start for basic understanding and a catalyst to learn more. Author Bio: Bonnie and her husband Roy live in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and will soon be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They are the parents of four married children and the proud grandparents of nine energetic grandchildren, ranging in age from two to 21. Bonnie has been a lifelong student of the Bible. She has also used her talents for the Lord as a Sunday School teacher, VBS worker, church organist and pianist, and a member of church choirs and musical groups. She has been actively involved in each of the six communities in which she has resided with her family. While living in upstate New York, she served as a 4-H leader, piano teacher, founding member of the Newark Valley Historical Society, and docent for the Bement-Billings House museum. While living in Cheshire, Connecticut, she was one of three musicians who held worship services for several local nursing homes and also worked part-time. Bonnie presently serves as chaplain for the Scotchtown Chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), and is an avid gardener whenever she is not busy with her children and grandchildren. keywords: Bible Reference, Bible Translation Of Terms, Biblical Terms, Bible Terms, Bible Vocabulary, Understand Bible, Christian Vocabulary, Christian Reference, Christian Words, Bible Tool

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the first textbook of the Maturity Institute, a new, not-for-profit, multi-disciplinary professional development institution established in 2012 to address the developmental needs of corporations. It explains the institution’s brief history, philosophy, goals, principles, strategic framework and measurement of mature, management practice. It offers a critique of earlier attempts to temper and moderate the worst excesses of late 20th century capitalism including concepts of ‘balanced scorecards’, ‘triple bottom lines’ and ‘corporate social responsibilities’. It tackles the root causes of capitalism’s present malaise, tracing them back to the mantra of ‘shareholder value’. In its analysis, the text describes a mutually inclusive, whole system, value paradigm where every societal stakeholder can benefit from corporate activity, where true wealth creation, resource utilisation and sustainability go hand-in-hand. This book provides a sophisticated, yet practical, navigation chart for all organisations needing to address the immense social and economic changes of the unfolding millennium.
