Obwohl Mediation also in immer mehr Fachwissenschaften und auch verschiedensten Handlungsfeldern der Sozialen Arbeit Anwendung findet, kommt die Auseinandersetzung mit der Methode im Bachelorstudium der Sozialen Arbeit – nach eigener Erfahrung des Verfassers - häufig viel zu kurz und wird zumeist nur am Rande thematisiert. Die vorliegende Hausarbeit soll deshalb dazu dienen, einen auf Grund des vorgegebenen Umfangs grob komprimierten Überblick über die Methode und deren Nutzen zu bieten. Sie beschäftigt sich dabei – im Hinblick auf das zu Grunde liegende Modul - auch mit der Fragestellung, inwiefern die moderne Methode der Mediation zur weiteren Professionalisierung der Sozialen Arbeit beitragen kann. Ausgeklammert werden in dieser Hausarbeit wegen des gewünschten Umfangs die vielfältigen theoretischen Hintergründe der Methode (z.B. Wissen über Konflikte) und weitestgehend die ebenfalls sehr umfassenden Methoden (z.B. Gewaltfreie Kommunikation). Die Beantwortung der Fragestellung ist wichtig, weil in kaum einer Handlungswissenschaft die eigenen Mitglieder so konträr über den Professionsstatus diskutieren, wie in der Soziale Arbeit. Auch in der öffentlichen Betrachtung gehen die Meinungen auseinander, ob die Soziale Arbeit nun eine „echte Profession“ ist oder doch nicht eher nur eine „Semi- bzw. Quasiprofession“ (vgl. hierzu bspw. Herwig-Lempp, dessen Beitrag von 1997 nach wie vor aktuell ist). Um die Professionalisierung der Sozialen Arbeit weiter voranzutreiben, ist es notwendig, sich mit modernen Methoden auseinanderzusetzen und das eigene Handlungsrepertoire so zu erweitern.
