Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Medals of the Renaissance The leading works on other branches of the art are, I believe, fairly indicated in the footnotes and in the bibliography. Ferha s I should apologize for the frequency of the references to books an articles of my own. My excuse must be that, since I have now for many years been trying to fill up the gaps necessarily left in their work by the pioneers, t ese references are required to complete the bibliographical a paratus, until the time comes for a book which will gather up all the scattered material. The materials for such a book have for over fifteen years been accumulating in my hands but since 1914 some of the most fruitful sources have been cut off, so far as men of my generation are concerned, and what I had hoped would be a corpus will, if it ap ears at all, be but an imperfect torso. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Italian Medals English translation would be practically a second edition of his work. As, however, the proposed arrangement broke down, Mrs. Hamilton has simply translated the book as it stands. A few insignificant additions have been made in the footnotes, and distinguished by the use of square brackets. It need hardly be said that the author is in no way responsible for the work in its English form, except in so far as it faith fully renders the German text. I have had the opportunity of revising the translation both in manuscript and in type. The majority of the illustrations are from the same blocks as were used for the original work but in the case of the medals by Vittore Pisano and Pasti, and that of Tomaso Rangone, new blocks have been made, in all cases without reduction. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trieste Publishing has a massive catalogue of classic book titles. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. Our readers see the books the same way that their first readers did decades or a hundred or more years ago. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. This book was released on 2017-10-29 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Medals by Giovanni Cavino, the 'Paduan' The greater number of the coins usually termed Paduans are cast from moulds and are of little value and easily detected; but the pieces struck from Cavino's dies possess much artistic merit and are often not readily distinguishable from ancient coins. There are, however, several general points of difference which become ap parent after careful comparison with the genuine coins. The Paduan is usually too round and regular, and the flan is too thin; the dots of the border or engrailment are large and in irreg ular relief; the letters are flat and square, especially N; M is broad at the base and narrow at the top H and D are square and heavy, and A and V are too narrow and sharp. The coins struck by Cavino himself (the dies were used after his death) are usually composed of red and yellow copper, poorly alloyed.
