Download or read book Mechanical Spectroscopy 2001 written by Robert Schaller and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2001-03-13 with total page 724 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical spectroscopy is a non-destructive technique that is very well suited for studying the dynamics of singularities such as structural defects in solids. It has been successfully applied in solid state physics and materials science for more than fifty years, and the present textbook aims at summarising the state-of-the-art in this field by presenting recent results obtained in Western European laboratories. The contents are divided into nine chapters. Introduction to mechanical spectroscopy (Ch.1) is based on a complete description of the elastic, viscoelastic, and viscoplastic behaviours of solids. The anelastic response is analysed from three different viewpoints: phenomenology, rheology and thermodynamics.

Book Synopsis Dynamic Mechanical Analysis by : Kevin P. Menard
Download or read book Dynamic Mechanical Analysis written by Kevin P. Menard and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-05-04 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) is a powerful technique for understanding the viscoelastic properties of materials. It has become a powerful tool for chemists, polymer and material scientists, and engineers. Despite this, it often remains underutilized in the modern laboratory. Because of its high sensitivity to the presence of the glass transition, many users limit it to detecting glass transitions that can’t be seen by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). This book presents a practical and straightforward approach to understanding how DMA works and what it measures. Starting with the concepts of stress and strain, the text takes the reader through stress–strain, creep, and thermomechanical analysis. DMA is discussed as both the instrument and fixtures as well as the techniques for measuring both thermoplastic and thermosetting behavior. This edition offers expanded chapters on these areas as well as frequency scanning and other application areas. To help the reader grasp the material, study questions have also been added. Endnotes have been expanded and updated. Features Reflects the latest DMA research and technical advances Includes case studies to demonstrate the use of DMA over a range of industrial problems Includes numerous references to help those with limited materials engineering background Demonstrates the power of DMA as a laboratory tool for analysis and testing

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Contact Mechanics by : Georgios E. Stavroulakis
Download or read book Recent Advances in Contact Mechanics written by Georgios E. Stavroulakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-19 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contact mechanics is an active research area with deep theoretical and numerical roots. The links between nonsmooth analysis and optimization with mechanics have been investigated intensively during the last decades, especially in Europe. The study of complementarity problems, variational -, quasivariational- and hemivariational inequalities arising in contact mechanics and beyond is a hot topic for interdisciplinary research and cooperation. The needs of industry for robust solution algorithms suitable for large scale applications and the regular updates of the respective elements in major commercial computational mechanics codes, demonstrate that this interaction is not restricted to the academic environment. The contributions of this book have been selected from the participants of the CMIS 2009 international conference which took place in Crete and continued a successful series of specialized contact mechanics conferences.
