Book Synopsis Fiber-Reinforced Composite Materials by : V. Tuninetti
Download or read book Fiber-Reinforced Composite Materials written by V. Tuninetti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the current progress in fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP), covering manufacturing, mechanical behavior, and resistance performance. It includes the elastic and damage behavior of unidirectional FRP, and highlights the improvements achieved by adding multiwall carbon nanotubes. The material resistance is assessed through fatigue response, local behavior, local properties, and failure mechanisms, including crack density and microcrack propagation behavior. The book also explores the degradation of macroscopic mechanical properties such as elastic modulus and compressive strength versus plastic strains. Additionally, it focuses on the progress made in out-of-plane composite characterization and modeling response for simulations of critical mechanical parts currently used in different industries, thanks to advances in manufacturing techniques that allow for the production of increasingly complex and thicker geometries.
Book Synopsis Modern Trends in Composite Laminates Mechanics by : Holm Altenbach
Download or read book Modern Trends in Composite Laminates Mechanics written by Holm Altenbach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-10-21 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the book is to give a clear picture of some new modern trends in composite mechanics and to give a presentation of the current state-of-the-art of the theory and application of composite laminates. The book addresses the basics as well as recent developments in the theory of laminates and their effective properties, the problem of testing and identification of properties, strength, damage, and failure of composite laminates, lightweight construction principles, optimization techniques, the generation of smart structures, and a number of special technical aspects (e.g. stress localization), their modelling and analysis. The intention of the book is to provide deeper understanding, to give mathematical and algorithmic techniques for analysis, simulation and optimization and to link various aspects of composite mechanics as necessary to exploit the full potential that is possible for composite structures.
Book Synopsis Impact Behaviour of Fibre-reinforced Composite Materials and Structures by : S.R. Reid
Download or read book Impact Behaviour of Fibre-reinforced Composite Materials and Structures written by S.R. Reid and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-10-31 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much of the early, pioneering work on the properties of composites under impact is still conceptually relevant, yet the results of many such analyses are outdated. The accuracy of these results depend specifically on the materials used (fibre, resin), interface, and method of fabrication. Development of new materials, cost effective design, and analysis and prediction of structural behaviour have all established a need for timely, wide ranging research on impact behaviour. Impact Behaviour of Fibre-Reinforced Composite Materials and Structures brings together - for the first time - state-of-the-art research from the most recent works of leading, international experts. An important new study, this book extensively investigates impact response, damage tolerance, and failure of fibre-reinforced composite materials and structure, from a number of expert viewpoints. This book explores the nature of modern polymer composites based on glass, carbon, aramid, ceramic and polymer fibres in a polymer matrix, and details various ways of analysing the impact process. Impact Behaviour of Fibre-Reinforced Composite Materials and Structures will prove itself a valuable tool for research and development engineers, structural engineers, materials scientists, designers, and students and researchers of related disciplines.
Book Synopsis Damage Mechanisms/Failure Mechanics of Carbon-Carbon Composite Materials by : David E. Walrath
Download or read book Damage Mechanisms/Failure Mechanics of Carbon-Carbon Composite Materials written by David E. Walrath and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 100 millimeter (4in) cubic billet of 3-dimensional cartesian weave carbon-carbon material was received in late December, 1977. A series of tests were performed to measure mechanical properties during uniaxial tension, compression, and shear loading. Extensive test development was required as standard tests for these materials do not exist. Strain gages and extensometers were used to measure strain during loading for determination of elastic coefficients. Acoustic emission measurements were performed on selected tests to determine damage thresholds. Failure surfaces were examined in a scanning electron microscope to study failure modes. (Author).

Book excerpt: Composite material systems are the basis for much of the natural world around us and are rapidly becoming the basis for many modern engineering components. A controlling feature for the general use of such systems is their damage tolerance, durability and reliability. The present book is a comprehensive cross section of the state of the art in the field of the durability of polymer-based, composite, and adhesive systems. As such, it is of special value to researchers concerned with the frontier of the field, to students concerned with the substance of the subject, and to the applied community concerned with the finding methodologies that make it possible to design safe and durable engineering components using material systems.
