Book Synopsis Biology and Mathematics by : Roger Buis
Download or read book Biology and Mathematics written by Roger Buis and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To formalize the dynamics of living things is to search for invariants in a system that contains an irreducible aspect of “fuzziness”, because biological processes are characterized by their large statistical variability, and strong dependence on temporal and environmental factors. What is essential is the identification of what remains stable in a “living being” that is highly fluctuating. The use of mathematics is not limited to the use of calculating tools to simulate and predict results. It also allows us to adopt a way of thinking that is founded on concepts and hypotheses, leading to their discussion and validation. Instruments of mathematical intelligibility and coherence have gradually “fashioned” the view we now have of biological systems. Teaching and research, fundamental or applied, are now dependent on this new order known as Integrative Biology or Systems Biology.
Book Synopsis Molecular and Cellular Enzymology by : Jeannine Yon-Kahn
Download or read book Molecular and Cellular Enzymology written by Jeannine Yon-Kahn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-23 with total page 809 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular and Cellular Enzymology addresses not only experienced enzymologists but also students, teachers and academic and industrial researchers who are confronted with enzymological problems during their fundamental or applied research. In this field there is an urgent need for training in order to meet the requirements of both research and industrial endeavours. This book consists of several levels. Practical aspects and elementary explanations are given for the benefit of non-specialists’ and students’ understanding. In order to facilitate the task of students, two typographies have been adopted. The main text corresponds to basic knowledge, whereas text in a smaller font provides more specialised information. Specialists will also find topics more deeply expounded with the principal bibliographic references cited. The bibliography, however, is not exhaustive; the choice includes general books and review articles as well as some specialised articles. In this book, for the first time, the different molecular and cellular aspects of enzymology are presented together. Until now, there has been no book available in which these different aspects are treated in the same volume. In addition, besides the theoretical developments, this book provides a wealth of practical information for experimentalists.

Book Synopsis Reflections on Medical Ethics by : Jean-Pierre Cléro
Download or read book Reflections on Medical Ethics written by Jean-Pierre Cléro and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-08 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book questions the notions of person, personality, dignity, and other connected notions such as (informed) consent, and discusses new perspectives on categories that allow ethical debates in medicine to overcome morals and ordinary religious schemes. The book states that one has to be careful when thinking about situations in terms of notions and principles that have been obtained in similar situations. Though this book is mostly philosophical, it is also of great practical interest to healthcare givers. It warns caregivers not to rely too much on notions such as person, autonomy, and consent, which are supposedly firm but can be proven to be unreliable in spite of appearances. Furthermore, this work warns against a narrow anthropologisation of ethics which would make technophobian positions unavoidable. On the contrary, this book is open to robotics and offers – among other things - a sustained exploration of the notion of intimacy.
