Book excerpt: "The report presents the results of the latest study in the Maternity Rights Survey series, which has been monitoring take-up of maternity benefits and mothers' post-birth employment decisions since the late 1970s ... [In] the past few years a wide range of policy initiatives have been introduced to support working families and the current study provides the first opportunity to fully consider how these policies might have affected mothers' employment trajectories after childbirth. For this study, just under 2,000 face-to-face interviews were conducted with mothers whose children were aged between 12 and 18 months and who had worked at some point in the 12 months before the baby's birth. The sample was selected from Child Benefit recipients in Britain and interviews were conducted between February and May 2007."--P. 1.
