Book Synopsis The Master's Violin by : Myrtle Reed
Download or read book The Master's Violin written by Myrtle Reed and published by Pantianos Classics. This book was released on 1904 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myrtle Reed's classic novel is not simply a romantic story, but a celebration of life, love and the exquisiteness of music. The story involves a virtuoso violin player living in Lancaster, whose house is kept by his spinster sister. In a different neighborhood of town, an elderly lady who adopted and raised a young girl is surprised when her relatives- a widow and her son - arrive unannounced and wish to stay. The son, being musically talented, aspires to take up tutorage with the famous violinist of Lancaster. Thus begins an awkward situation that serves as a gauntlet for the passionate story which follows. Notably for a book of this genre, The Master's Violin contains many musings on the nature and value of family, music, parenthood, friendship and life. The reflective and thoughtful narration, along with the poignant descriptions of the master's performances, makes this a unique and memorable story. The author was among the most famous and appreciated novelists of her time. Unusually for a romance author, Reed also published a series of successful cookbooks. Though her fame declined in the years following her death in 1911 at the age of only 36, her books have maintained an appreciative audience into the 21st century.

Book Synopsis Violin Varnish by : Joseph Michelman
Download or read book Violin Varnish written by Joseph Michelman and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-03-23 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After more than eight years of extensive research on the varnish used by the Italian Violin Makers from 1550 to 1750 A. D., it has not been possible to corroborate the results in the chemical laboratory. This is due entirely to the unavailability of samples of the varnish for confirmatory analysis. Violins made by the Italian masters of this period are so valuable and so scarce that a small sample of the varnish has not been procurable for experimental purposes. Therefore, synthesis must precede analysis . . . . and with no assistance from the latter. This, then, will explain the sub-title of this book as: "A Plausible Re-creation of the Varnish Used by the Italian Makers Between the Years 1550 and 1750 A. D." However, the results of this investigation are so logical and so deeply supported by a vast amount of convincing evidence, that publication of the book is in order. First, possibly the findings will be confirmed, or otherwise, by investigators who may be more fortunate in having access to material from authentic violins made by the old masters. Confirmatory chemical tests will be suggested; it should be comparatively simple, especially through modern micro-analytical methods, to determine the presence of certain constituents in the varnish. The subject matter of this book will of necessity become technical, especially when the theoretical aspects are considered. It is realized that not everyone who will be interested in the rediscovery of the old Italian varnish will also be interested in the scientific deductions and conclusions. For this reason, a chapter will be included in which the preparation of the materials from which the varnish is made, the formulation of the varnish and its application will be reduced to the simplest terms. The old masters who lived several hundred years ago and who possessed none of the advantages of modern technology also used only the simplest technique in varnishing and finishing their violins.

Book Synopsis Tonalization by : Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
Download or read book Tonalization written by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki and published by Alfred Music. This book was released on with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Suzuki questioned why all vocalists vocalize every day to improve their voices, but instrumentalists do not do so every day with their instruments. He believes that on any instrument, one needs to practice to make a more beautiful tone. First he talks about playing a beautiful resonant tone with the bow while plucking the string with a finger. When a pizzicato is played, the resonance goes on for a long time. Students should listen to that resonance and play the same kind of clear beautiful sound. He talks about how to make a difference in the tone by using a different bow speed, how to practice to find the resonance point, how to change the weight of the arm on the bow to produce a different kind of tone, and how to change tone color. This book includes all of Dr. Suzuki's basic ideas about tone.
