Book excerpt: Many leaders take a haphazard approach to leadership, positioning themselves and their organizations for failure by adapting whichever methods and practices they believe will prove effective at the moment and demanding results no matter the cost. However, there is a more viable, effective leadership strategyone that allows the goals of an organization to be achieved when leaders embrace and replicate their leadership DNA. Mastering Your Leadership DNA defines the concept of this leadership DNA, exploring how a scientific principle can be applied to leadership. Author Linsdale McKenzie, an experienced leader with an extensive track record of managing employees to foster corporate growth, examines and explains the fundamental and foundational measures that foster the high level of managerial competency needed to motivate and support employee performance and build a foundation for organizational success.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new classic, cited by leaders and media around the globe as a highly recommended read for anyone interested in innovation. In The Innovator’s DNA, authors Jeffrey Dyer, Hal Gregersen, and bestselling author Clayton Christensen (The Innovator’s Dilemma, The Innovator’s Solution, How Will You Measure Your Life?) build on what we know about disruptive innovation to show how individuals can develop the skills necessary to move progressively from idea to impact. By identifying behaviors of the world’s best innovators—from leaders at Amazon and Apple to those at Google, Skype, and Virgin Group—the authors outline five discovery skills that distinguish innovative entrepreneurs and executives from ordinary managers: Associating, Questioning, Observing, Networking, and Experimenting. Once you master these competencies (the authors provide a self-assessment for rating your own innovator’s DNA), the authors explain how to generate ideas, collaborate to implement them, and build innovation skills throughout the organization to result in a competitive edge. This innovation advantage will translate into a premium in your company’s stock price—an innovation premium—which is possible only by building the code for innovation right into your organization’s people, processes, and guiding philosophies. Practical and provocative, The Innovator’s DNA is an essential resource for individuals and teams who want to strengthen their innovative prowess.

Book excerpt: Mastering Leadership is a modern classic. Each chapter is well written and easy to read. I am not surprised. Dr.Orovwiroro is an accomplished and serial author after penning such leadership essentials as The Secrets of Highly Impactful Leaders, Smart CEO's Leadership Execution and 26 Leadership Laws of Transforming the Workplace. It is self-evident that this work adds to his prolific contributions to the leadership literary space and a thought leadership in his own right.By his antecedent and treatment of leadership in this book, there is a subliminal message that tackles the age old question: are leaders made or born? Put it another way, are they natural born leaders or leadership can be acquired through learning and practice? I would rather leave this to the curious reader. However, knowing one's leadership DNA is a good place to start in cultivating and honing your key management success factors. Climbing the corporate ladder is not a chance event. It is knowledge based and driven by the dexterity of your management and leadership acumen.

Book excerpt: Not many people are satisfied with the leaders we have in the public and private sectors. We are suffering from a severe lack of good leadershipeven though billions of dollars per year are spent on leadership training and development. The root cause of this leadership vacuum is that leadership gurus firmly believe, teach, and preach that anyone can be made into a leader with the right training, personal desire, and commitment. With this premise, theyve approached leadership as a commonplace and elementary skill that anyone can learn. Theres just one problem: theyre wrong. In this guidebook on leadership, youll learn about all aspects of leadership, including: how to look past personality profiles, leadership models, and traditional assessment tools to grasp what makes a great leader; how to identify and select natural born leaders to achieve your objectives; how to deal with poor leaders who hurt you and your organization. Leadership DNA examines the false premise that anyone can be a leader and provides insights and tools that lead to a better system of identifying, selecting, and developing born leaders.

Whether the project is large in scope, such as changing the orientation of a school to Professional Learning Communities, or smaller in scope, such as the development of formative assessments or new grading practices in a single semester, the 100-Day Leader brings a sense of daily accomplishment, feedback, mid-course corrections, focus, and encouragement to the organization--from the classroom to the board room. Eaker and Reeves offer an integrated approach in which the leader sees connections that may not be apparent to others in the organization. Curriculum, assessment, facilities, transportation, food service, teacher evaluation, board relationships and a host of other complex interactions are at the heart of the 100-Day Leader. This book offers a practical guide for leaders at every level to make immediate transformations in culture, practice, and performance"--

From boardroom politics to the challenges faced by the first female commissioner of Asian police tasked with transforming the world's one of the most corrupt prisons, the stories are diverse, inspirational and instructional. This book provides readers with a framework of ten ingredients distilled from Rhea's extensive experience and research. Book excerpt: The first book, Leadership DNA examined the false premise that anyone can be a leader. Paul Okum, a former US Army officer who has held numerous executive positions with the federal government, builds upon those insights in this second book, sharing techniques to identify, select, and help born leaders enhance their skills. He explores how good leaders effectively overcome forty different types of challenges through short essays. Learn how to avoid one-size-fits-all formulas; use innate talents to deal with and solve challenges; embrace the art of leadership over the science of leadership; and weave a message of hope and confidence that others can embrace. Okum also explains what leadership isnttoppling the arguments of leadership gurus who argue that leadership can be managed. The problem with that approach, he says, is that you cannot choreograph a leaders response to a wide range of human activity and organizational change. You cannot view leadership like a scientific calculation where adherence to formulas equals good leadership. Whether youre a politician, business executive, or concerned citizen, youll be empowered to accomplish objectives with the insights in the second book of Leadership DNA.

One of the most interesting and instructive would be the study of Nehemiah. He is one of the great leaders in the Bible and is one of the great leaders in all of history. In this project, we will explore leadership lessons gleaned from his own personal journal and focus on the first seven chapters of the book that bears his name. Additionally, I will reference quotes and other scripture to reinforce the lesson. I summarize each chapter with Nehemiah’s “Master Builder Principles.” Nehemiah was a master builder. He built a wall around Jerusalem in just fifty-two days, when others apparently could not. He built the Jews’ confidence. He built progress. He built a strong and positive culture. He built relationships. He built his positive reputation. He built a phenomenal legacy. He built an example for all to emulate. I love the study of leadership, have been doing it for 33+ years, and expect to do it my whole life. Leadership fascinates me and the more I study it the more I validate how critical it is to teams, organizations, our nation, and our church. My life’s purpose is to Positively Influence Lives. This is done primarily through leadership. My measure of success with this project is expose readers to God’s Word, expose readers to some leadership lessons, and enable readers to build upon their leadership knowledge.
