Book excerpt: There is an old Chinese metaphysics saying: "Early heaven is the body and later heaven is the application". The Xuan Kong Da Gua is the supreme system that that proves it on a theoretical and a practical basis, by unifying the knowledge of the I Ching with the Chinese geomancy. This ancient Chinese system is extremely accurate is based on universal metaphysical laws applicable in date selection and Feng Shui. The Xuan Kong Da Gua is considered by many masters as the superior system which for many centuries was one of the most guarded secrets in the Chinese metaphysics. This system emerged in the west in the last decade and this is the first book on this subject ever to be published in the English language, although a few online courses on this system may be found. These courses are extremely expensive and concentrate only on the date selection. This unique book covers thoroughly both date selection and Feng Shui aspects of Xuan Kong Da Gua. The authors have an extensive knowledge on this subject they have been specializing in the field of Chinese metaphysics for more than a decade. They both have accumulated a lot of practical knowledge and experience which lead them to create special software to help them and their students with their research. This research revealed some astonishing findings which may sound as a science fiction to the layman in the field. Some of the most interesting cases appear in this book. Here are some real life examples of the power of Xuan Kong Da Gua:D.L. was an anonymous artist who struggled for living. After implementing Xuan Kong Da Gua recommendations in her apartment and studio and by using date selection, she gained worldwide recognition as a unique and appreciated artist. H.D. a divorced young mail which was unemployed that couldn't make ends meet. By using the Xuan Kong Da Gua he won a small apartment in a lottery. There are quite a few systems in Chinese metaphysics that deal with space and time according to Chinese metaphysical principles, like Qi Men Dun jia, Liu Ren, Xuan Kong Fei Xing etc. These systems rely heavily on intuition and experience. The Xuan Kong Da Gua is based on precise and logical principles and has less need for intuition and "gut feelings" in its application. The Xuan Kong Da Gua is the more applicable system for the western practitioner. The book divided into two parts. The first part gives a thorough presentation of the theoretical principles of the Xuan Kong Da Gua. The hexagrams are analyzed covering all facets of their structure including all aspects relevant to the Da Gua, supplying the reader with all needed tools for personal and professional application of this method. The book presents the subject in a clear and non complicated way. This book includes dozens of tables and illustration.

This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1899 more than 73,000 pieces of inscribed divination shell and bone have been found inside the moated enclosure of the Anyang-core at the former capital of the late Shang state. Nearly all of these divinations were done on behalf of the Shang kingsand has led to the apt characterization that oracle bone inscriptions describe their motivations, experiences, and priorities. There are, however, much smaller sets of divination accounts that were done on behalf of members of the Shang elite other than the king.First noticed in the early 1930's, grouped and periodized shortly thereafter, oracle bone inscriptions produced explicitly by or on behalf of "royal familygroups" reveal information about key aspects of daily life in Shang societythat are barely even mentioned in Western scholarship. The newly published Huayuanzhuang East Oracle Bone inscriptions are a spectacular addition to the corpus of texts from Anyang: hundreds of intact or largely intact turtle shells and bovine scapulae densely inscribed with records of the divinations in which they were used. They were produced on the behalf of a mature prince of the royal family whose parents, both alive and still very much active, almost certainly were the twenty-first Shang king Wu Ding (r. c. 1200 B.C.) and his consort Lady Hao (fu Hao). The Huayuanzhuang East corpus is an unusually homogeneous set of more than two thousand five hundred divination records, produced over a short period of time on behalf of a prince of the royal family. There are typically multiple records of divinations regarding the same or similar topics that can be synchronized together, which not only allows for remarkable access into the esoteric world of divination practice, but also produce micro-reconstructions of what is essentially East Asia's earliest and most complete "day and month planner." Because these texts are unusually linguistically transparent and well preserved, homogeneous in orthography and content, and published to an unprecedentedly high standard, they are also ideal material for learning to read and interpret early epigraphic texts. The Huayuanzhuang East oracle bone inscriptions are a tremendously important Shang archive of "material documents" that were produced by a previously unknown divination and scribal organization. They expose us to an entirely fresh set of perspectives and preoccupationscentering ona member of the royal family at the commencement of China's historical period. The completely annotated English translation of the inscriptions is the first of its kind, and is a vibrant new source of Shang history that can be accessedto rewrite and supplement what we know about early Chinese civilization and life in the ancient world. Before the discerning reader are the motives, preoccupations, and experiences of a late Shang prince working simultaneously in service both for his Majesty, his parents, and hisown family.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open access edition: DOI 10.6069/9780295749013 At first glance, medicine and poison might seem to be opposites. But in China’s formative era of pharmacy (200–800 CE), poisons were strategically employed as healing agents to cure everything from abdominal pain to epidemic disease. Healing with Poisons explores the ways physicians, religious figures, court officials, and laypersons used toxic substances to both relieve acute illnesses and enhance life. It illustrates how the Chinese concept of du—a word carrying a core meaning of “potency”—led practitioners to devise a variety of methods to transform dangerous poisons into effective medicines. Recounting scandals and controversies involving poisons from the Era of Division to the Tang, historian Yan Liu considers how the concept of du was central to how the people of medieval China perceived both their bodies and the body politic. He also examines the wide range of toxic minerals, plants, and animal products used in classical Chinese pharmacy, including everything from the herb aconite to the popular recreational drug Five-Stone Powder. By recovering alternative modes of understanding wellness and the body’s interaction with foreign substances, this study cautions against arbitrary classifications and exemplifies the importance of paying attention to the technical, political, and cultural conditions in which substances become truly meaningful. Healing with Poisons is freely available in an open access edition thanks to TOME (Toward an Open Monograph Ecosystem) and the generous support of the University of Buffalo.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cate Bramble has devoted her career to highlighting the differences between 'feng shui-lite' as a fashionable pursuit in contrast to the original intentions of the Chinese masters. Here she presents the authentic principles in a technical, no-nonsense pocket book specifically for architects. As clients become more demanding and the competition for projects heats up, the architect is well advised to have many strings to their bow. This practical guide includes line illustrations that present the principles of feng shui, the Chinese art or practice in which a structure or site is chosen or configured so as to harmonize with the spiritual forces that inhabit it, and their application in architecture through planning principles, services, building elements and materials, in an accessible, easy reference format. The feng shui-savvy architect can also benefit from feng shui's ability to match structures and land, and the peculiar capacity of authentic feng shui to forecast development-related concerns including cost overruns, quality issues - even worker injuries and trade disputes! The author explains feng shui from archaeological sources and evidence of practice in the east, contrasting it with what passes for feng shui in the west. She analyses the practice in terms of such concepts as western systems theory, viewshed, space syntax and the 'pattern landscape' theory of urban planning. For the first time, the Sustainable implications of feng shui design are explained with reference to the latest developments in behavioural and cognitve sciences, evolutionary biology and other western viewpoints.
