Book excerpt: In 1939 George Harrison published his classic Wavelength Tables "with intensities in arc, spark, or discharge tube of more than 100,000 spectrum lines most strongly emitted by the atomic elements under normal conditions of excitation between 10,000 A. and 2000 A. arranged in order of decreasing wavelengths." The book's major strengths were the comprehensiveness of its coverage and the consistency of the conditions under which measurements were taken. A corrected edition published in 1969 is still available from The MIT Press. The second volume of M.I.T. Wavelength Tables presents a rearrangement of Harrison's spectrum lines by element rather than by wavelength. It also includes wavelengths in vacuum and corresponding wavenumbers, which are important for theoretical studies. This reference work will be useful to analytical chemists, atomic spectroscopists, astronomers, and other researchers and students who need accessible and comprehensive summaries of lines emitted by a given element. Frederick M. Phelps III is an associate professor in the Department of Physics at Central Michigan University.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1991, is an invaluable guide to biographies of scientists from a wide variety of scientific fields. The books selected for this highly descriptive bibliography help librarians shatter readers’ stereotypes of scientists as monomaniacal and uninteresting people by providing interesting and provocative titles to capture the interest of students and other readers. The biographies included in this very special bibliography were carefully selected for their humour and human insights to give future scientists encouragement, inspiration, and an understanding of the origins of particular scientific fields. These biographies are unique in that they explore the whole personality of the scientist, giving students a glimpse at the variety and drama of the lives beyond well-known contributions or Nobel prize accomplishments.

Book excerpt: The Handbook of Rare Earth Elements focuses on the essential role of modern instrumental analytics in the recycling, purification and analysis of rare earth elements. Due to their numerous applications, e.g. in novel magnetic materials for computer hardware, mobile phones and displays, rare earth elements have become a strategic and valuable resource. The detailed knowledge of rare earth element contents at every step of their life cycle is of great importance. This reference work was compiled with contribution from an international team of expert authors from Academia and Industry to presend a comprehensive discussion on the state-of-the-art of rare earth element analysis for industrial and scientific purposes, recycling processes and purification of REEs from various sources. Written with Analytical Chemists, Inorganic Chemists, Spectroscopists as well as Industry Practitioners in mind, the Handbook of Rare Earth Elements is an indispensable reference for everyone working with rare earth elements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both the interpretation of atomic spectra and the application of atomic spectroscopy to current problems in astrophysics, laser physics, and thermonuclear plasmas require a thorough knowledge of the Slater-Condon theory of atomic structure and spectra. This book gathers together aspects of the theory that are widely scattered in the literature and augments them to produce a coherent set of closed-form equations suitable both for computer calculations on cases of arbitrary complexity and for hand calculations for very simple cases.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ********** BACK COVER TEXT ********** ‘1’: The Ultimate Foundation of Nature may very well be the most important conceptual breakthrough in the prediction, validation, and unification of physics. It provides solutions to challenges posed by the greatest minds of all time. Eugene Wigner of Princeton University, 1963 Nobel laureate in physics, stated, “The full meaning of life, the collective meaning of all human desires, is fundamentally a mystery beyond our grasp . . . We have no right to expect that our intellect can formulate perfect concepts for the full understanding of inanimate nature’s phenomena.” Max Planck from the University of Berlin, 1918 Nobel laureate in physics, declared, “Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And it is because in the last analysis we ourselves are part of the mystery we are trying to solve.” In ‘1’: The Ultimate Foundation of Nature, we suggest that you have in your hands the solution for the ultimate mystery of nature that has no explanations in terms of deeper principles. It is based on the laws of physics, the unchanging frame of reference, the ‘1’, predicting, validating, and unifying different laws and theories in a seamless, all-embracing theory of everything. Some Earlier Reviews on Books by Orest Bedrij “By integrating spiritual validations with scientific evidence, placing one upon the other in verification after verification, Orest Bedrij arrives at an amalgam of the one single fundamental concept: ‘1’ . . . ‘a holy vision of you,’ ‘the nature of God,’ and ‘the theory of everything.’” —Dr. Tibor Horvath, SJ, Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto; Founder/General Editor, Ultimate Reality and Meaning “This book is an important stepping-stone to a quantum jump in evolution, a world of oneness, which is in the making under our very eyes. May this book inspire leaders to catch up with the sages of our times, who are revealing to us the fundamental oneness of humanity and all creation.” —Dr. Robert Muller, Chancellor of the United Nations University for Peace; Former Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations “Here is a manual for raising the human dimension and struggle to its cosmic significance. Its encyclopedic scope and depth is the product of a lifetime of dedicated study. Orest Bedrij brings fresh light to the Divine disguise in time . . . The book turns into the coinage of everyday parlance.” —Dr. Glen A. Olds, Former President of Kent State University; US Ambassador to the UN Economic and Social Counsel Cover design by Andrew Patapis

This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pattern transfer by dry etching and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor de position are two of the cornerstone techniques for modern integrated cir cuit fabrication. The success of these methods has also sparked interest in their application to other techniques, such as surface-micromachined sen sors, read/write heads for data storage and magnetic random access memory (MRAM). The extremely complex chemistry and physics of plasmas and their interactions with the exposed surfaces of semiconductors and other materi als is often overlooked at the manufacturing stage. In this case, the process is optimized by an informed "trial-and-error" approach which relies heavily on design-of-experiment techniques and the intuition of the process engineer. The need for regular cleaning of plasma reactors to remove built-up reaction or precursor gas products adds an extra degree of complexity because the interaction of the reactive species in the plasma with the reactor walls can also have a strong effect on the number of these species available for etching or deposition. Since the microelectronics industry depends on having high process yields at each step of the fabrication process, it is imperative that a full understanding of plasma etching and deposition techniques be achieved.
