Book Synopsis Martingale Methods in Financial Modelling by : Marek Musiela
Download or read book Martingale Methods in Financial Modelling written by Marek Musiela and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and self-contained treatment of the theory and practice of option pricing. The role of martingale methods in financial modeling is exposed. The emphasis is on using arbitrage-free models already accepted by the market as well as on building the new ones. Standard calls and puts together with numerous examples of exotic options such as barriers and quantos, for example on stocks, indices, currencies and interest rates are analysed. The importance of choosing a convenient numeraire in price calculations is explained. Mathematical and financial language is used so as to bring mathematicians closer to practical problems of finance and presenting to the industry useful maths tools.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martingale Methods in Statistics provides a unique introduction to statistics of stochastic processes written with the author’s strong desire to present what is not available in other textbooks. While the author chooses to omit the well-known proofs of some of fundamental theorems in martingale theory by making clear citations instead, the author does his best to describe some intuitive interpretations or concrete usages of such theorems. On the other hand, the exposition of relatively new theorems in asymptotic statistics is presented in a completely self-contained way. Some simple, easy-to-understand proofs of martingale central limit theorems are included. The potential readers include those who hope to build up mathematical bases to deal with high-frequency data in mathematical finance and those who hope to learn the theoretical background for Cox’s regression model in survival analysis. A highlight of the monograph is Chapters 8-10 dealing with Z-estimators and related topics, such as the asymptotic representation of Z-estimators, the theory of asymptotically optimal inference based on the LAN concept and the unified approach to the change point problems via "Z-process method". Some new inequalities for maxima of finitely many martingales are presented in the Appendix. Readers will find many tips for solving concrete problems in modern statistics of stochastic processes as well as in more fundamental models such as i.i.d. and Markov chain models.

Book Synopsis PDE and Martingale Methods in Option Pricing by : Andrea Pascucci
Download or read book PDE and Martingale Methods in Option Pricing written by Andrea Pascucci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-04-15 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an introduction to the mathematical, probabilistic and numerical methods used in the modern theory of option pricing. The text is designed for readers with a basic mathematical background. The first part contains a presentation of the arbitrage theory in discrete time. In the second part, the theories of stochastic calculus and parabolic PDEs are developed in detail and the classical arbitrage theory is analyzed in a Markovian setting by means of of PDEs techniques. After the martingale representation theorems and the Girsanov theory have been presented, arbitrage pricing is revisited in the martingale theory optics. General tools from PDE and martingale theories are also used in the analysis of volatility modeling. The book also contains an Introduction to Lévy processes and Malliavin calculus. The last part is devoted to the description of the numerical methods used in option pricing: Monte Carlo, binomial trees, finite differences and Fourier transform.

Book Synopsis Martingale Limit Theory and Its Application by : P. Hall
Download or read book Martingale Limit Theory and Its Application written by P. Hall and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martingale Limit Theory and Its Application discusses the asymptotic properties of martingales, particularly as regards key prototype of probabilistic behavior that has wide applications. The book explains the thesis that martingale theory is central to probability theory, and also examines the relationships between martingales and processes embeddable in or approximated by Brownian motion. The text reviews the martingale convergence theorem, the classical limit theory and analogs, and the martingale limit theorems viewed as the rate of convergence results in the martingale convergence theorem. The book explains the square function inequalities, weak law of large numbers, as well as the strong law of large numbers. The text discusses the reverse martingales, martingale tail sums, the invariance principles in the central limit theorem, and also the law of the iterated logarithm. The book investigates the limit theory for stationary processes via corresponding results for approximating martingales and the estimation of parameters from stochastic processes. The text can be profitably used as a reference for mathematicians, advanced students, and professors of higher mathematics or statistics.

Book Synopsis Set-Indexed Martingales by : B.G. Ivanoff
Download or read book Set-Indexed Martingales written by B.G. Ivanoff and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1999-10-27 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Set-Indexed Martingales offers a unique, comprehensive development of a general theory of Martingales indexed by a family of sets. The authors establish-for the first time-an appropriate framework that provides a suitable structure for a theory of Martingales with enough generality to include many interesting examples. Developed from first principles, the theory brings together the theories of Martingales with a directed index set and set-indexed stochastic processes. Part One presents several classical concepts extended to this setting, including: stopping, predictability, Doob-Meyer decompositions, martingale characterizations of the set-indexed Poisson process, and Brownian motion. Part Two addresses convergence of sequences of set-indexed processes and introduces functional convergence for processes whose sample paths live in a Skorokhod-type space and semi-functional convergence for processes whose sample paths may be badly behaved. Completely self-contained, the theoretical aspects of this work are rich and promising. With its many important applications-especially in the theory of spatial statistics and in stochastic geometry- Set Indexed Martingales will undoubtedly generate great interest and inspire further research and development of the theory and applications.
Book Synopsis Peacocks and Associated Martingales, with Explicit Constructions by : Francis Hirsch
Download or read book Peacocks and Associated Martingales, with Explicit Constructions written by Francis Hirsch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-24 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We call peacock an integrable process which is increasing in the convex order; such a notion plays an important role in Mathematical Finance. A deep theorem due to Kellerer states that a process is a peacock if and only if it has the same one-dimensional marginals as a martingale. Such a martingale is then said to be associated to this peacock. In this monograph, we exhibit numerous examples of peacocks and associated martingales with the help of different methods: construction of sheets, time reversal, time inversion, self-decomposability, SDE, Skorokhod embeddings. They are developed in eight chapters, with about a hundred of exercises.
Book Synopsis Statistical Models Based on Counting Processes by : Per K. Andersen
Download or read book Statistical Models Based on Counting Processes written by Per K. Andersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern survival analysis and more general event history analysis may be effectively handled within the mathematical framework of counting processes. This book presents this theory, which has been the subject of intense research activity over the past 15 years. The exposition of the theory is integrated with careful presentation of many practical examples, drawn almost exclusively from the authors'own experience, with detailed numerical and graphical illustrations. Although Statistical Models Based on Counting Processes may be viewed as a research monograph for mathematical statisticians and biostatisticians, almost all the methods are given in concrete detail for use in practice by other mathematically oriented researchers studying event histories (demographers, econometricians, epidemiologists, actuarial mathematicians, reliability engineers and biologists). Much of the material has so far only been available in the journal literature (if at all), and so a wide variety of researchers will find this an invaluable survey of the subject.
Book Synopsis Theory of U-Statistics by : Vladimir S. Korolyuk
Download or read book Theory of U-Statistics written by Vladimir S. Korolyuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of U-statistics goes back to the fundamental work of Hoeffding [1], in which he proved the central limit theorem. During last forty years the interest to this class of random variables has been permanently increasing, and thus, the new intensively developing branch of probability theory has been formed. The U-statistics are one of the universal objects of the modem probability theory of summation. On the one hand, they are more complicated "algebraically" than sums of independent random variables and vectors, and on the other hand, they contain essential elements of dependence which display themselves in the martingale properties. In addition, the U -statistics as an object of mathematical statistics occupy one of the central places in statistical problems. The development of the theory of U-statistics is stipulated by the influence of the classical theory of summation of independent random variables: The law of large num bers, central limit theorem, invariance principle, and the law of the iterated logarithm we re proved, the estimates of convergence rate were obtained, etc.
Book Synopsis Sharp Martingale and Semimartingale Inequalities by : Adam Osękowski
Download or read book Sharp Martingale and Semimartingale Inequalities written by Adam Osękowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is a presentation of a unified approach to a certain class of semimartingale inequalities, which can be regarded as probabilistic extensions of classical estimates for conjugate harmonic functions on the unit disc. The approach, which has its roots in the seminal works of Burkholder in the 80s, enables to deduce a given inequality for semimartingales from the existence of a certain special function with some convex-type properties. Remarkably, an appropriate application of the method leads to the sharp version of the estimate under investigation, which is particularly important for applications. These include the theory of quasiregular mappings (with deep implications to the geometric function theory); the boundedness of two-dimensional Hilbert transform and a more general class of Fourier multipliers; the theory of rank-one convex and quasiconvex functions; and more. The book is divided into a few separate parts. In the introductory chapter we present motivation for the results and relate them to some classical problems in harmonic analysis. The next part contains a general description of the method, which is applied in subsequent chapters to the study of sharp estimates for discrete-time martingales; discrete-time sub- and supermartingales; continuous time processes; the square and maximal functions. Each chapter contains additional bibliographical notes included for reference.

Book Synopsis Fluctuations in Markov Processes by : Tomasz Komorowski
Download or read book Fluctuations in Markov Processes written by Tomasz Komorowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-07-05 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume contains the most advanced theories on the martingale approach to central limit theorems. Using the time symmetry properties of the Markov processes, the book develops the techniques that allow us to deal with infinite dimensional models that appear in statistical mechanics and engineering (interacting particle systems, homogenization in random environments, and diffusion in turbulent flows, to mention just a few applications). The first part contains a detailed exposition of the method, and can be used as a text for graduate courses. The second concerns application to exclusion processes, in which the duality methods are fully exploited. The third part is about the homogenization of diffusions in random fields, including passive tracers in turbulent flows (including the superdiffusive behavior). There are no other books in the mathematical literature that deal with this kind of approach to the problem of the central limit theorem. Hence, this volume meets the demand for a monograph on this powerful approach, now widely used in many areas of probability and mathematical physics. The book also covers the connections with and application to hydrodynamic limits and homogenization theory, so besides probability researchers it will also be of interest also to mathematical physicists and analysts.
