Book Synopsis The Mute Eunuch and Other Tales from Mars by : Roy J. Challis
Download or read book The Mute Eunuch and Other Tales from Mars written by Roy J. Challis and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2020-10-08 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of this material was written by the author during the sixties to roaring nineties. Some of the attitudes presented may have been influenced by John Gray’s Men Are from Mars Women Are from Venus. The material was collected, rewritten, and collated during the period 2011–2020. The enterprise of collecting the material was prolonged by a stint on the Saskatchewan School Boards Association board of directors, including several years as the Urban Public representative and three years as president of the association. The major stumbling block was a series of life-threatening health conditions. Most of them were complications from a long battle with an early onset of type 2 diabetes. The collection is a miscellany of contradictions from gentle family material to adult situations galore. Adultery, stalking, and men who can’t keep their johnson in their pants meet women who welcome their advances and many who don’t. It’s all meant to be good fun. Life is more worth living if we don’t take ourselves or anybody else too seriously. Some of us have too many Neanderthal genes and others don’t have enough. Classifying ourselves is so last century. Welcome to the world of Homo sapiens. The human race, better than a marathon, and everyone is a winner.

Book Synopsis The Knights Templar by : Sean Martin
Download or read book The Knights Templar written by Sean Martin and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2009-04-29 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an essential exploration into the history of a legendary group of Crusaders, which are prominently featured in Dan Brown's recent best seller, The Da Vinci Code. The Knights Templar rose from humble beginnings to become the most powerful military religious order of the Middle Ages. Formed to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land, they participated in the Crusades and rapidly gained wealth, lands, and influence. Seemingly untouchable for nearly two centuries, they fell from grace spectacularly after the loss of the Holy Land. In the ensuing centuries the Templars have exerted a unique influence over European history; orthodox historians see them as nothing more than soldier-monks whose arrogance was their ultimate undoing, while others see them as occultists of the first order. With clarity and ease, Martin navigates between the orthodox and the speculative, the historical and the myth, to bring alive the story of the Templars. Like those other legends of the Middle Ages -- the characters of the Arthurian tales -- The Knights Templar holds captive the imagination of all those intrigued by conspiracy and how history and myth intertwine to become the stuff of legend.

This book was released on 2020-09-10 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chaucer's best-known poem, The Canterbury Tales, is justly celebrated for its richness and variety, both literary - the Tales include fabliaux, romances, sermons, hagiographies, fantasies, satires, treatises, fables and exempla - and thematic, with its explorations of courtly love and scatology, piety and impiety, chivalry and pacifism, fidelity and adultery. Students new to Chaucer will find in this Companion a lively introduction to the poem's diversity, depth, and wonder. Readers returning to the Tales will appreciate the chapters' fresh engagement with the individual tales and their often complicated critical histories, inflected in recent decades by critical approaches attentive to issues of gender, sexuality, class, and language.
