Book Synopsis Growing a Successful Marriage Through Faith by : Charlie L. Jones
Download or read book Growing a Successful Marriage Through Faith written by Charlie L. Jones and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing a Successful Marriage through Faith tells the story of marriage. The book has many facets; first, it describes the institution of marriage as it was meant to be, between a man and a woman. It tells of their relationship with the Creator, which is the bond that holds the marriage together. Second, it tells of choices made by a man and a woman that break the marriage bond. Finally, it is a story about grace and redemption, which is a free gift offered by God (through faith) to restore the bond. I refer to this book as a marriage-faith help book, a book to assist couples to protect their marriage vows, as well as to cultivate their marriage in producing the fruit of the Spirit. Refining a marriage through faith requires not only having a personal relationship with God and allowing him to guide ones decision making but also being obedient to Gods instructions. Growing a Successful Marriage through Faith not only represents an individual spiritual journey, in which God redeems a person through a personal relationship with him, but it also represents a spiritual marital journey where God redeems the marriage and restores the marriage bond through the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit bonds a marriage together, the marriage is in a state of holy matrimony. The book Growing a Successful Marriage through Faith tells of my personal life story, and possibly, there are parts of the story that others may be able to relate to. I think this book is unique in that it combines a life situation caused by personal choices with what the Bible says about the situation then reinforces the lesson through the essence of visuals in nature. In this case, the visuals are photographs of an okra plant that grew between the blocks of concrete. Questions are presented to the reader throughout the text not only to engage the reader but also to reinforce that the solutions to relationship issues require self-examination and spiritual solution. The answers that you give may be reflections of your problem-solving approach, whether spiritual or otherwise. In the Bible, Jesus often used parables that involved nature, and he performed miracles. Both mediums were used to grow faith. The book also serves to encourage those who are going through personal trials in their lives, whether marriage, health problems, or any other difficult life circumstance, to study the Word of God and pray that God sends the Holy Spirit to move in their lives. When your relationship with God becomes close-up and personal, he gives you spiritual discernment (that is, the wisdom to put your lifes circumstances in their proper perspective), and he gives you inner peace.

Book Synopsis Perfect Marriage Not a Mirage by : Poonam A. Bamba
Download or read book Perfect Marriage Not a Mirage written by Poonam A. Bamba and published by Pustak Mahal. This book was released on 2010-02-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's encounters with husbands and wives in different stages of agony and despair, while holding matrimonial court, led her to reflect deeply on the dynamics of the relationship called "marriage". Case after case revealed that a lot goes into preparation for rituals and extravaganza associated with marriage. But, hardly a thought is spared about this delicate relationship. Girls and boys are very demanding of their companion but none is ready to pitch in. Both want their "own way" their "own space" but are reluctant to invest in togetherness. The real life stories revealed that you cannot have a "perfect twosome", when each individual brings his/her own imperfections. Conflicts would always be there but they can be managed. A beginning made with the preamble that marriage has to work, can make this bond beautiful. To build a pleasant relationship, a couple needs to give time to each other to adjust to the new company and to respect each other's way of life. Attempt to change the other, is surely avoidable. Through this book, the author shares real life stories of estranged spouses; What went wrong in their relationship and where? Could the marital relationship in certain situations, have been saved? "Perfect Marriage Not a Mirage" also addresses endless doubts which go on in the minds of spouses at the crossroads of their relationship. But at the same time, it also demonstrates that there is no uniform code which can make a marriage work. There cannot be a 'perfect recipe' or a 'rule book' which can guide couples to a successful marriage.

Book excerpt: Set in a closed desert kingdom in our own times, it tells how Sayeed, a good but unexceptional man, finds love with a woman who would have been beyond his reach had not poverty and widowhood brought her low. The scene is set with unpretending tenderness: the hospital where Sayeed works, the kindness of his friends, the struggle to make a decent home for his new wife Latifa and her child, the bustle of his brother's home, the simple wedding. Heat, dirt and squalor are the backdrop to the tragedy, Latifa, confused and far from home, the terrified victim. Petty jealousy, sexual desire and religious fervour combine to bring her down and to leave the reader stunned.

Book Synopsis The Mirage of a Space between Nature and Nurture by : Evelyn Fox Keller
Download or read book The Mirage of a Space between Nature and Nurture written by Evelyn Fox Keller and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-11 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this powerful critique, the esteemed historian and philosopher of science Evelyn Fox Keller addresses the nature-nurture debates, including the persistent disputes regarding the roles played by genes and the environment in determining individual traits and behavior. Keller is interested in both how an oppositional “versus” came to be inserted between nature and nurture, and how the distinction on which that opposition depends, the idea that nature and nurture are separable, came to be taken for granted. How, she asks, did the illusion of a space between nature and nurture become entrenched in our thinking, and why is it so tenacious? Keller reveals that the assumption that the influences of nature and nurture can be separated is neither timeless nor universal, but rather a notion that emerged in Anglo-American culture in the late nineteenth century. She shows that the seemingly clear-cut nature-nurture debate is riddled with incoherence. It encompasses many disparate questions knitted together into an indissoluble tangle, and it is marked by a chronic ambiguity in language. There is little consensus about the meanings of terms such as nature, nurture, gene, and environment. Keller suggests that contemporary genetics can provide a more appropriate, precise, and useful vocabulary, one that might help put an end to the confusion surrounding the nature-nurture controversy.
Book Synopsis Same Sex Mirage: Phantasmagoria at the Altar & Some Biblical Responses by : Douglas Wilson
Download or read book Same Sex Mirage: Phantasmagoria at the Altar & Some Biblical Responses written by Douglas Wilson and published by Canon Press & Book Service. This book was released on 2016-05-31 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Obergefell v. Hodges was a wonderful decision--because it's now forcing every Christian to decide whether their allegiance is to the Supreme Court or to the Supreme Being. In every other way, it was a terrible decision. But understanding where it came from and how it impacts our public and private lives isn't so straightforward. And for Christians, most of that difficulty stems from the fact that we have mis-identified the nature of the current culture war. Homosexual rights are about sexual liberty--but only superficially. Primarily, gay marriage is about the right to control. Same-Sex Mirage starts to untangle the issues involved, beginning with the fundamentals of marriage and then tracing the effects of this foundational institution in every area of life. Is marriage a private matter--an agreement before God alone? Or is it public--a matter for legislation? But most Christians also need to think about the issues involved beyond the chapel. Does "marriage equality" affect public discourse? How should free speech play into this discussion? What does the Bible say about the Supreme Court, or repentance, or a theology of resistance? Obergefell was a disaster for our nation. And, as with every disaster, the biggest benefit is in determining how we Christians ignored all warnings and let it happen. "Our secular culture is trying to redefine marriage because the church first showed the way by redefining love." ~ Douglas Wilson
Book Synopsis Reforming Marriage by : Douglas Wilson
Download or read book Reforming Marriage written by Douglas Wilson and published by Canon Press & Book Service. This book was released on 1995 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How would you describe the spiritual aroma of your home? The source of this aroma is the relationship between husband and wife. Many can fake an attempt at keeping God's standards in some external way. What we cannot fake is the resulting, distinctive aroma of pleasure to God. Reforming Marriage does what few books on marriage do today: it provides biblical advice. Douglas Wilson points to the need for obedient hearts on the part of both husbands and wives. Godly marriages proceed from obedient hearts, and the greatest desire of an obedient heart is the glory of God.

Download or read book The Mirage written by Matt Ruff and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2012-02-07 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mind-bending novel in which an alternate history of 9/11 and its aftermath uncovers startling truths about America and the Middle East 11/9/2001: Christian fundamentalists hijack four jetliners. They fly two into the Tigris & Euphrates World Trade Towers in Baghdad, and a third into the Arab Defense Ministry in Riyadh. The fourth plane, believed to be bound for Mecca, is brought down by its passengers. The United Arab States declares a War on Terror. Arabian and Persian troops invade the Eastern Seaboard and establish a Green Zone in Washington, D.C. . . . Summer, 2009: Arab Homeland Security agent Mustafa al Baghdadi interrogates a captured suicide bomber. The prisoner claims that the world they are living in is a mirage—in the real world, America is a superpower, and the Arab states are just a collection of "backward third-world countries." A search of the bomber's apartment turns up a copy of The New York Times, dated September 12, 2001, that appears to support his claim. Other captured terrorists have been telling the same story. The president wants answers, but Mustafa soon discovers he's not the only interested party. The gangster Saddam Hussein is conducting his own investigation. And the head of the Senate Intelligence Committee—a war hero named Osama bin Laden—will stop at nothing to hide the truth. As Mustafa and his colleagues venture deeper into the unsettling world of terrorism, politics, and espionage, they are confronted with questions without any rational answers, and the terrifying possibility that their world is not what it seems. Acclaimed novelist Matt Ruff has created a shadow world that is eerily recognizable but, at the same time, almost unimaginable. Gripping, subversive, and unexpectedly moving, The Mirage probes our deepest convictions and most arresting fears.
