Book excerpt: "This book provides a road map for establishing a high-performance culture and developing a pipeline of talent. This should be basic reading for all new managers." --Charles G. Tharp, executive vice president, HR Policy Association "Gerry Kraines is truly a global thought leader in the space of change management and aligning strategy." --Denis Turcotte, managing partner and COO, Private Equity Group, Brookfield Asset Management, Inc. Management Productivity Multipliers is your guide to being a better leader and to forging a stronger future in business. In his work consulting to major corporations for more than thirty years, Gerald Kraines consistently hears that 60-70 percent of business organizations' potential effectiveness goes unrealized. He shares how to engage, align, and develop employees in order to leverage and encourage optimal performance and long-lasting results. Filled with useful anecdotes and lively case studies, this book will help you increase your wisdom about colleagues, direct reports, and others, as well as yourself: Develop powerful, yet straightforward strategies for leading people more effectively Establish accountability leadership at every level of the organization that adds value Define and implement managerial practices that will fully use people's potential Drive organizational change and create a culture of adaptive readiness Eliminate managerial abdication, bad hierarchy, and accountability gone awry in any organization. Business leaders who follow the principles in this book can multiply their chance of success and win back unrealized potential. Accountability, leadership, organizational alignment, and human resource systems are the building blocks for creating productive organizations. Kraines shares clear examples on how to get each of them right and properly integrated into a cohesive whole.

Book excerpt: Are you a genius or a genius maker? We've all had experience with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the ones around them and always need to be the smartest ones in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them. When these leaders walk into a room, lightbulbs go off over people's heads, ideas flow, and problems get solved. These are the leaders who inspire employees to stretch themselves to deliver results that surpass expectations. These are the Multipliers. And the world needs more of them, especially now, when leaders are expected to do more with less. In this engaging and highly practical book, leadership expert Liz Wiseman and management consultant Greg McKeown explore these two leadership styles, persuasively showing how Multipliers can have a resoundingly positive and profitable effect on organizations—getting more done with fewer resources, developing and attracting talent, and cultivating new ideas and energy to drive organizational change and innovation. In analyzing data from more than 150 leaders, Wiseman and McKeown have identified five disciplines that distinguish Multipliers from Diminishers. These five disciplines are not based on innate talent; indeed, they are skills and practices that everyone can learn to use—even lifelong and recalcitrant Diminishers. Lively, real-world case studies and practical tips and techniques bring to life each of these principles, showing you how to become a Multiplier too, whether you are a new or an experienced manager. Just imagine what you could accomplish if you could harness all the energy and intelligence around you. Multipliers will show you how.

Book excerpt: A revised and updated edition of the acclaimed Wall Street Journal bestseller that explores why some leaders drain capability and intelligence from their teams while others amplify it to produce better results. We’ve all had experience with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drains intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always needs to be the smartest person in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them. Lively, real-world case studies and practical tips and techniques bring to life each of these principles, showing you how to become a Multiplier too, whether you are a new or an experienced manager. This revered classic has been updated with new examples of Multipliers, as well as two new chapters one on accidental Diminishers, and one on how to deal with Diminishers. Just imagine what you could accomplish if you could harness all the energy and intelligence around you. Multipliers will show you how.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a growing "gospel gap" across North America and around the world. More people than ever do not have the opportunity to make an informed decision about Jesus or even know personally a follower of Christ. While we're grateful for every spiritually interested seeker who begins their exploration by visiting a local church, much more often it is in the everyday places of life that they come into contact with those who winsomely and fully follow Christ. There has never been a significant movement of God without the significant engagement of lay people. When laypeople partner with pastors, the potential for Kingdom advancement intensifies. This leads to disciples making disciples (discipling disciples), people being empowered in faith, and equipped to grow so that God's Spirit fills every part of them and ripples out into the lives around them. The authors of Marketplace Multipliers believe the marketplace, where believers and those yet to believe cross paths every day, provides an intersection for a multiplication movement.Best-selling author Kay Kotan, Wayne Schmidt and Carrie Whitcher seek to be one example of "clergy and laity" partnering together in order to fulfill the Great Commission to "Go and make disciplesThis book is part of The Greatest Expedition series, aimed at providing assistant to congregations who want to do more than "stay in place," but to move out into the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Value creation is at the heart of an economic enterprise, defining its capability to serve customers and generate profits and growth. This fact has led to an ever-increasing set of tools and techniques that start with customers, focusing on serving their preferences from the very inception of a product until its disposal. And this data is required to implement a value creation approach that has its roots in the Management Accounting System (MAS). The resulting model is called the Value-based Cost Management System (VCMS). If you or any manager want to take the lessons you learned in product development, process management, and marketing, this book will help you extend this knowledge to your MAS. This book makes this transformation both logical and easy to implement, with a focus on the new types of information that can be garnered when the MAS is modified to fit the value creation approach. The authors of the book will provide, upon request, a simplified automated data collection template that will ease the implementation process.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with advances in serial-data computa tional architectures, and the CAD tools for their implementation in silicon. The bit-serial tradition at Edinburgh University (EU) stretches back some 6 years to the conception of the FIRST silicon compiler. FIRST owes much of its inspiration to Dick Lyon, then at Xerox P ARC, who proposed a 'structured-design' methodology for construction of signal processing systems from bit-serial building blocks. Based on an nMOS cell-library, FIRST automates much of Lyon's physical design process. More recently, we began to feel that FIRST should be able to exploit more modern technologies. Before this could be achieved, we were faced with a massive manual re-design task, i. e. the porting of FIRST cell-library to a new technology. As it was to avoid such tasks that FIRST was conceived in the first place, we decided to move the level of user-specification much nearer to the silicon level (while still hiding details of transistor circuit design, place and route etc. , from the user), and by so doing, enable the specification of more functionally powerful libraries in technology-free form. The results of this work are in evidence as advances in serial-data design techniques, and the SECOND silicon compiler, introduced later in this book. These achievements could not have been accomplished without help from various sources. We take this opportunity to thank Profs.
