Book Synopsis A Framework for K-12 Science Education by : National Research Council
Download or read book A Framework for K-12 Science Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life and hold the key to solving many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. The United States' position in the global economy is declining, in part because U.S. workers lack fundamental knowledge in these fields. To address the critical issues of U.S. competitiveness and to better prepare the workforce, A Framework for K-12 Science Education proposes a new approach to K-12 science education that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field. A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice. A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.

Book excerpt: Apologia’s Marine Biology course is one of the few homeschool science courses that include an entire education on ecology. It gives students self-directed learning tools to ensure that they thrive and master key science concepts. God designed the earth’s intricate ecosystem for his glory and the needs of those He created, and it is crucial for Christians in our day to accurately understand the ocean’s ecosystems and resources and how we can best steward them.--Publisher

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: POLLUTANTS AND WATER MANAGEMENT Pollutants and Water Management: Resources, Strategies and Scarcity delivers a balanced and comprehensive look at recent trends in the management of polluted water resources. Covering the latest practical and theoretical aspects of polluted water management, the distinguished academics and authors emphasize indigenous practices of water resource management, the scarcity of clean water, and the future of the water system in the context of an increasing urbanization and globalization. The book details the management of contaminated water sites, including heavy metal contaminations in surface and subsurface water sources. It details a variety of industrial activities that typically pollute water, such as those involving crude oils and dyes. In its discussion of recent trends in abatement strategies, Pollutants and Water Management includes an exploration of the application of microorganisms, like bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, and cyanobacteria, for the management of environmental contaminants. Readers will also discover a wide variety of other topics on the conservation of water sources including: The role of government and the public in the management of water resource pollution The causes of river system pollution and potential future scenarios in the abatement of river pollution Microbial degradation of organic pollutants in various water bodies The advancement in membrane technology used in water treatment processes Lead contamination in groundwater and recent trends in abatement strategies for it Highly polluting industries and their effects on surrounding water resources Perfect for graduate and postgraduate students and researchers whose focus is on recent trends in abatement strategies for pollutants and the application of microorganisms for the management of environmental contaminants, Pollutants and Water Management: Resources, Strategies and Scarcity also has a place in the libraries of environmentalists whose work involves the management and conservation of polluted sites.

Book Synopsis Applicative Chemistry of Tanning Metallic Heterocomplexes by : Carmen Gaidau
Download or read book Applicative Chemistry of Tanning Metallic Heterocomplexes written by Carmen Gaidau and published by Bentham Science Publishers. This book was released on 2013-08-07 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chemistry of heterocomplex compounds is a fascinating field for experts in chemical synthesis and structural analysis, and for technologists specializing in leather processing. This volume describes the vast theoretical and practical possibilities of exploiting the action synergism of metals with different collagen cross-linking capacity. The possibility of reducing chromium content from leather tanning agents by replacing it with other tanning metals has significant environmental implications and minimum changes in terms of quality and production costs of natural leather, and is a viable alternative for a safe future. Applicative Chemistry of Tanning Metallic Heterocomplexes is a book dedicated to the synthesis and use of tanning metallic heterocomplexes in leather tanning as alternatives to tanning with basic chromium salts. Replacing chromium with other tanning metals is an innovative approach that exploits the possibility that a series of known disadvantages of tanning metals used individually be reduced by heterocomplexation. The synthesis mechanism of stable combinations of chromium with other tanning metals: aluminum, iron, titanium, or zirconium is based on the stoichiometry of oxidation-reduction reactions which enables a wide range of combinations, the premise for obtaining various properties by tanning and retanning natural leather. The volume is intended as a useful reference for researchers, chemical auxiliary producers, experts in natural leather processing who are looking for clean and efficient solutions for wastewater pollutants, sludge or solid wastes while striving to preserve the known characteristics of mineral tanned natural leather.

Book Synopsis The World and the Word: Making Sense of Social Science in an Age of Conflict, Opposition, and Grace by : Dr. Herbert L. Green Jr.
Download or read book The World and the Word: Making Sense of Social Science in an Age of Conflict, Opposition, and Grace written by Dr. Herbert L. Green Jr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-08-24 with total page 699 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus very presence as the New Testament age unfolded (1st century A.D.), engendered opposition, created confl ict, while ushering in grace. His ideas were considered radical. Why is this so? The NIV Archeological Study Bible (2005), NIV Student Bible, et al. and corroborating Extra-Biblical evidence provide a context for the Word view about Jesus in Biblical history, and supports aspects of the social and physical sciences in terms of cultural, socio-economic, political, historical, archeological, and philosophical (apologetics) evidence. As the pages of this book unfold, there is an internal consistency with social science and The Bible. However, where such consistency appeared to diverge, this author attempts to fi lter out the noise by applying critical thinking criteria to a Worldview that may not be consistent with the Word view. The goal of this book therefore is to provide some exposition (Greek apologia) of the Word and see how the World fi ts. Born again Christians can be credible scientists and not compromise Gods Word.
