Book excerpt: Photographer Marina Ballo Charmet has taken her camera on an artistic journey to city parks across the world - including London, New York, Milan, Paris, Rome, and Berlin. Bringing a childlike simplicity to bear upon her subject, Charmet manages to capture the uninhibited beauty of the park - a space away from the congestion and density of the city, where people's perceptions shift, humanity relaxes, and we take a break from the frenetic pace of daily life.

Download or read book Proximity Cinema written by Ilaria Pezone and published by Edizioni Falsopiano. This book was released on 2023-04-19 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Defining proximity cinema, a concept in which only apparently distant experiences are associated, such as private and underground cinema. This is the goal of the book: to challenge and redefine the boundaries of stale and automatic critical categories. Tracing a transversal path that combines family cinema and experimental cinema, in the name of innovation, freedom from industrial and market conventions. Mapping writings for images emancipated from the usual narrative, from the general canon. Familiar or avant-garde works, which beg to be looked at through eyes free from superstructures, devoid of both pre-packaged intellectual meanings and the contemporary perverse desire for fun at all costs. Proximity cinema goes to the beating heart of things. It is amateur cinema in the etymological, amorous sense: it asks to be experienced without prejudice, it makes a clean sweep of interpretative vices, it reveals itself openly, offering portions of life, it often reaches the abstract consistency of painting through an obstinate observation of reality. Under the aegis of Roger Odin and deployed, like Stan Brakhage, in defense of the amateur, proximity cinema looks at the production of images with the aim of restoring dignity — artistic, historical, and sociological — to simple yet extraordinarily complex, intimate, and revolutionary cinematographic gestures, which are constantly and dully underestimated if not derided." Ilaria Pezone is a teacher at Brera Academy. Since 2009, she has been dedicated to the study and practice of private cinema. She’s made short, medium, and feature-length films, including France, quasi un autoritratto (2017); Indagine su sei brani di vita rumorosa dispersi in un’estate afosa - raccolti e scomposti in cinque atti (2016); Concerto Metafisico (2015); Vedere Tra - Luigi Erba improvviso e dialogato (2014); 1510 - sogno su carta impressa con video (2013); Masse nella geometria rivelata dello spazio-tempo (2012); Andare tornando a rilievi domestici (2011); GREISTTMO (2010); Polittico Preludio Adagio Altalenante (2009); Leggerezze e gravità (2008).
Book Synopsis Trauma and Motherhood in Contemporary Literature and Culture by : Laura Lazzari
Download or read book Trauma and Motherhood in Contemporary Literature and Culture written by Laura Lazzari and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trauma and Motherhood in Contemporary Literature and Culture repositions motherhood studies through the lens of trauma theory by exploring new challenges surrounding conception, pregnancy, and postpartum experiences. Chapters investigate nine case studies of motherhood trauma and recovery in literature and culture from the last twenty years by exploring their emotional consequences through the lens of trauma, resilience, and “working through” theories. Contributions engage with a transnational corpus drawn from the five continents and span topics as rarely discussed as pregnancy denial, surrogacy, voluntary or involuntary childlessness, racism and motherhood, carceral mothering practices, surrogacy, IVF, artificial wombs, and mothering through war, genocide, and migration. Accompanied by an online creative supplement, this volume deals with silenced aspects of embodied motherhood while enhancing a better understanding of the cathartic effects of storytelling.

Book Synopsis Photography and Italy by : Maria Antonella Pelizzari
Download or read book Photography and Italy written by Maria Antonella Pelizzari and published by Reaktion Books. This book was released on 2010-11-15 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this beautifully illustrated book Maria Antonella Pelizzari traces the history of photography in Italy from its beginnings to the present as she guides us through the history of Italy and its ancient sites and Renaissance landmarks. Pelizzari specifically considers the role of photography in the formation of Italian national identity during times of political struggle, such as the lead up to Unification in 1860, and later in the nationalist wars of Mussolini’s regime. While many Italians and foreigners— such as Fratelli Alinari or Carlo Ponti, John Ruskin or Kit Talbot—focused their lenses on architectural masterpieces, others documented the changing times and political heroes, creating icons of figures such as Garibaldi and the brigands. Pelizzari’s exploration of Italian visual traditions also includes the photographic collages of Bruno Munari, the neorealist work of photographers such as Franco Pinna, the bold stylized compositions of Mario Giacomelli, and the controversial images created by Oliviero Toscani for Benetton advertising in the 1980s. Featuring unpublished works and a rare selection of over one hundred images, this book will appeal to art collectors and students of art history and Italian culture.
