Book Synopsis Biofertilizers and Biopesticides in Sustainable Agriculture by : B. D. Kaushik

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new volume, Biofertilizers and Biopesticides in Sustainable Agriculture, presents strategies for the management of soil and crop diseases. Microbes have attracted worldwide attention due to their role in disease management and remediation of polluted soils. Taking a sustainable approach, this book explores the means of integrating various microbial management approaches to achieve the desired levels of crop yield under both conventional soils and neglected soils through the use of biopesticides and other botanicals as well as biomolecules. This book also presents a broad and updated view of molecular nitrogen fixation and phosphate-solubilizing and sulfur-transforming microbes for nutrition of crops in relation to the role of metal tolerant microbes in providing protection to plants grown in metal-contaminated soils. The preparation and application of biofertilizers, utilization of household waste materials, and use of genetically modified microorganisms (GMOs) in plant growth and development are also well discussed in the volume.

Book Synopsis Effects of Intensive Fertilizer Use on the Human Environment by :
Download or read book Effects of Intensive Fertilizer Use on the Human Environment written by and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 1978 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of countries in Europe and North America have been using fertilizers heavily for a number of years and particulary since 1945. This high level of fertilizer applications is essential to supply the necessary food for increasing populations and to meet higher demands for animal and plant products. Effects of fertilizer use on the environment should show first in countries where fertilizers have been used intensively for some time and where consumption is steadily rising. It is the experience gained in such countries which is being discussed below with a view to assessing the impact of fertilizers on the human environment, including the development of methods for recognizing and minimizing any undersirable consequences which may be produced. It should be realized that high densities of human population combined with intensive crop and livestock production have led to the production of organic wastes at a rate too high for natural processes to convert it in ecologically safe compounds. Therefore both direct and indirect effects of intensive fertilizer use have been reviewed.

Book Synopsis Fertiliser Recommendations for Agricultural and Horticultural Crops by : Great Britain. Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
Download or read book Fertiliser Recommendations for Agricultural and Horticultural Crops written by Great Britain. Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and published by Stationery Office Books (TSO). This book was released on 2000 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been produced for use by agricultural consultants, farmers and their agents, and other organisations concerned with developing and maintaining a sustainable agricultural industry. It describes the principles of crop nutrition and gives recommendations for the use of lime, fertilisers and organic manures for field crops and grassland grown in England and Wales. The main purpose of the book is to provide recommendations for the optimum rate and timing of fertilisers but information is also given on a range of related topics such as soil sampling methods and fertiliser application. The primary aim of the recommendations is to maximise the economic returns for farmers. Adoption of the recommendations will also reduce the risk of applying more fertiliser nutrients than the crop needs and will thereby minimise the risk of causing nutrient pollution of the environment. The recommendations are not designed for use in organic farming systems. A summary of the main changes from the previous edition is given.
