Book excerpt: Manual of the Lodge is a book about the Freemasonry which provides monitorial instructions in the degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason arranged in accordance with the American System of Lectures. To those are added the Ceremonies of the Order Past Master, relating to installations, dedications, consecrations and laying of Corner-Stones. The aim of the work was to explain and supply means of enabling the reader more thoroughly to understand the ceremonies through which the young Mason or the recent initiate passes and to extend his researches into that sublime system of symbolism of the craft.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making this Manual available on amazon for brethren who wants a printed copy. The Mentor Plan was conceived as an answer to one of the problems of Masonry - the producing of interested Masons by means of a well - rounded education in all phases of the Royal Art. It is not possible to impart all of the knowledge necessary to produce a generation of informed Masons in the brief time the Mentor will be active in the life of the candidate. The Plan, therefore, must have, as its main objective, the promotion of an interest in Masonic knowledge. It must devise a means of creating a desire in the candidate to learn more about Masonry and point out to him the sources from which he will be able to obtain more light on those facets of it which he will find interesting to him. These, of course, will vary with the individual. It is not the objective of the Mentor Plan to teach the ritual nor is it generally recommended that the Mentor instruct the new Mason in the catechisms which he is required to learn. In some Lodges it will be necessary that the same brother perform both functions because of the shortage of instructors. However, when this is the case care should be taken to avoid confusing the two subjects. The Mentor Plan will endeavor to acquaint the new brother with some of the history of Freemasonry, its philosophies and objectives. It should also give him some insight into the literature of the Fraternity wherein he may begin and continue his study of its teachings and doctrines.Instruction under the Mentor Plan must be individual and personalized if it is to be effective. In embracing this system we are following the time honored method of the Fraternity, that of imparting instruction from mouth-to-ear, for Freemasonry believes in and stresses the importance of the individual. Through the individual, as he comes to realize that he is Freemasonry to many people, will understand the necessity for him to exemplify its principles by walking uprightly before God and man, squaring his actions by the square of virtue.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Masonic Manual; Or Lectures on Freemasonry: Containing the Instructions, Documents, and Discipline of the Masonic Economy Masons already look up to your Royal Highness as their Mecænas. Your presidency is hailed as the day-spring from on high to dissipate the darkness which obscures Masonry, and to develope its learning and benevolence. Masonry, we know, is calculated to ameliorate man in the world - to make him imitate the Divine Architect's attributes, and so to superinduce the Maker's image in the human mind. Its progress and encouragement, if so, is very good. From the common condition of man in the multitude, and its own peculiar Constitution, Masonry must be confined and limited at all times. However, if it be judiciously managed, it will tend to humanize and bless mankind. So the occult operation of elementary fire insinuates its powers, and feeds all nature, - its fostering heat is every where, and its fervent force is found in each material substance. May the warmth and light of Masonry be regulated and directed by means of your Royal Highness, diffusing solid comfort and satisfactory entertainment in the community, assisting the advancement of the Arts and Sciences, and inspiring your own illustrious breast with the consolations arising from a consciousness of doing good In the faithful spirit of this sacred sentiment, I beg to subscribe myself, May it please your Royal Highness, Your very obedient Servant, And truly devoted Fellow-Member of The Fraternity of Freemasons, Jonathan- Ashe, D.D., M.M. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choice Outstanding Academic Title for 2020 With the dramatic rise of Freemasonry in the eighteenth century, art played a fundamental role in its practice, rhetoric, and global dissemination, while Freemasonry, in turn, directly influenced developments in art. This mutually enhancing relationship has only recently begun to receive its due. The vilification of Masons, and their own secretive practices, have hampered critical study and interpretation. As perceptions change, and as masonic archives and institutions begin opening to the public, the time is ripe for a fresh consideration of the interconnections between Freemasonry and the visual arts. This volume offers diverse approaches, and explores the challenges inherent to the subject, through a series of eye-opening case studies that reveal new dimensions of well-known artists such as Francisco de Goya and John Singleton Copley, and important collectors and entrepreneurs, including Arturo Alfonso Schomburg and Baron Taylor. Individual essays take readers to various countries within Europe and to America, Iran, India, and Haiti. The kinds of art analyzed are remarkably wide-ranging-porcelain, architecture, posters, prints, photography, painting, sculpture, metalwork, and more-and offer a clear picture of the international scope of the relationships between Freemasonry and art and their significance for the history of modern social life, politics, and spiritual practices. In examining this topic broadly yet deeply, Freemasonry and the Visual Arts sets a standard for serious study of the subject and suggests new avenues of investigation in this fascinating emerging field.
