This book was released on 2012 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sealed radioactive sources are widely used in industry, medicine and research and are often small and mobile. The nuclear community has taken special care of all aspects effecting the management of sealed sources, including disused sources and their individual designs. This publication collects information on the most typical design features and manufacturing techniques of sealed radioactive sources and examines how they affect the management of disused radioactive sources. The approaches and methods described will also be useful for source designers and manufacturers and help them to consider waste management points of view when they improve their products.
Book Synopsis Locating and Characterizing Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources in Historical Waste by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Locating and Characterizing Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources in Historical Waste written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication provides information and guidance on methodologies and techniques which could be used to locate, identify and characterize disused, sealed radioactive sources on historical waste sites. The sealed and shielded nature of these sources often poses a significant challenge to their characterisation and thus to the verification of historical radioactive waste inventory records. Therefore, to facilitate the safe and proper classification of such sources, this publication describes the advantages and disadvantages of a number of methods of characterization, as well as the situational applicability of each.

Book excerpt: Though China remains a relatively weak nuclear power, it has in recent years become central to US strategic policymaking. What explains this shift? How is the US-China strategic nuclear relationship evolving? What role do other states play in shaping it? To address these questions, the authors of US-China Nuclear Relations examine a series of strategic triangles involving China, the US, and one or more key third actors (among them, Australia, India, Iran, Japan, North Korea, Pakistan, Russia, South Korea, and Taiwan). Their work also critically highlights the challenges and opportunities facing Washington and Beijing in this increasingly complex security arena.

Book Synopsis Inventory of Radioactive Material Resulting from Historical Dumping, Accidents and Losses at Sea by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Inventory of Radioactive Material Resulting from Historical Dumping, Accidents and Losses at Sea written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA Tecdoc. This book was released on 2016-02-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1989 the Contracting Parties to the Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter (the London Convention 1972) requested that the IAEA undertake the preparation of a global inventory of radioactive materials entering the marine environment from all origins. The IAEA subsequently established a global inventory which included information officially reported in or obtained from open literature and confirmed by the countries involved, on (i) the dumping at sea of radioactive waste; and (ii) marine accidents and losses involving radioactive materials. The inventory is intended as a centralized information base against which the impact of specific sources of radioactive material entering the marine environment can be assessed and compared. In 2006 the IAEA received the request to update those inventories. The present publication includes additional information provided recently by some IAEA Member States and contracting parties to the London Convention 1972 and Protocol 1996 within a process of updating the inventory which concluded in 2014, together with the information contained in previous IAEA publications. A CD ROM provides tables, maps and a database with detailed information.
