Book Synopsis The Collection, Analysis, and Use of Monitoring and Evaluation Data by : Dennis J. Casley
Download or read book The Collection, Analysis, and Use of Monitoring and Evaluation Data written by Dennis J. Casley and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on the topics in data collection, analysis, and use that were raised in its companion book, Project Monitoring and Evaluation in Agriculture. It summarizes these topics in the context set by the companion volume, which documented the importance of monitoring and recommended that ambitious evaluations be done only selectively. The book further explains the data collection and analysis techniques referred to in the companion volume. It is selective; it does not provide comprehensive coverage of all methods. Furthermore, for those methods it does cover, the book advocates simplicity and economy. It emphasizes qualitative interviewing methods because most monitoring and evaluation efforts will need to use them for limited, non-random coverage of respondents. Examples of sample theory and sample selection, conversely, are mainly in terms of rates of adoption and similar indicators. In a similar vein, the book advocates greater reliance on farmer estimates when discussing crop production and yield, because the issue of concern in this context is project beneficiary responses rather than aggregate national or regional estimates. The book is meant to be consulted as a particular issue arises rather than read straight through. The subjects covered are qualitative data collection methods; structured surveys and sampling and crop measurement problems; preliminary, exploratory data analysis; formal analysis; and data presentation.
Download or read book Voice and Agency written by Jeni Klugman and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2014-09-29 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent advances in important aspects of the lives of girls and women, pervasive challenges remain. These challenges reflect widespread deprivations and constraints and include epidemic levels of gender-based violence and discriminatory laws and norms that prevent women from owning property, being educated, and making meaningful decisions about their own lives--such as whether and when to marry or have children. These often violate their most basic rights and are magnified and multiplied by poverty and lack of education. This groundbreaking book distills vast data and hundreds of studies to shed new light on deprivations and constraints facing the voice and agency of women and girls worldwide, and on the associated costs for individuals, families, communities, and global development. The volume presents major new findings about the patterns of constraints and overlapping deprivations and focuses on several areas key to women s empowerment: freedom from violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, ownership of land and housing, and voice and collective action. It highlights promising reforms and interventions from around the world and lays out an urgent agenda for governments, civil society, development agencies, and other stakeholders, including a call for greater investment in data and knowledge to benchmark progress.

The microfinance revolution is delivering financial services to the economically active poor on a large scale through competing, financially self-sufficient institutions. In a few countries this has already happened; in others it is under way. The emerging microfinance industry has profound implications for social and economic development. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rural Marketing as a separate discipline in management teaching has emerged recently. The growing importance of the subject has been well realized by the marketers, policymakers and management interns. However, there is dearth of quality literature on the subject, comprehensive coverage of all the dimensions, aspects and managerial issues pertaining to rural marketing. In most of the management institutions, a half-baked knowledge of rural marketing is being imparted to the management interns while there is more emphasis on marketing perspective on harnessing the immense potential offered by rural areas through suitable marketing planning, product mix, pricing, distribution, promotional mix, branding and communication strategies. Present book is a serious attempt to bridge the need gap in the subject.

Book Synopsis Agricultural Transformation Centres in Africa - Practical guidance to promote inclusive agro-industrial development by : Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
Download or read book Agricultural Transformation Centres in Africa - Practical guidance to promote inclusive agro-industrial development written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-03-14 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the next ten years, the African rural space will be the theatre of profound changes as the activities envisaged for agricultural transformation are drastically scaled up. Increased food demand and changing consumption habits driven by demographic factors, such as population growth and urbanization, are already leading to a rapid increase of net food imports, opening a huge opportunity for the agribusiness sector of many African countries. Against this backdrop and in line with its mission to spur sustainable economic development and social progress, the African Development Bank (AfDB) in 2016 launched Feed Africa, a strategy that is intended to contribute substantially to the transformation of African agriculture by 2025, and to reverse Africa's dependence on imported foods. As part of this strategy, AfDB is promoting the concept of staple crops processing zones (SCPZs), which are agrobased spatial development initiatives, designed to concentrate agro-processing activities within areas of high agricultural potential to boost productivity and integrate the production, processing and marketing of selected commodities. As essential components, SCPZs include an agro-processing hub, a number of agricultural transformation centres (ATCs) and agricultural production areas. The ATCs are designed to link smallholder farmers to the agro-processing hub and are strategically located in high production areas, with the aim of serving as aggregation points to accumulate products from the community to supply the hub for further value addition, or to send them to centres of great demand for distribution and retail to consumers. This study has attempted to assess the feasibility and applicability of the ATC concept to selected regions in Zambia, Côte d'Ivoire and the United Republic of Tanzania. Findings from the field have demonstrated the potential of ATCs to address community needs and constraints for a range of selected value chains, and have helped to identify different ATC models that could work in each specific context.
