Book Synopsis Obadiah Through Malachi by : William P. Brown
Download or read book Obadiah Through Malachi written by William P. Brown and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taken together, the nine prophets found in the books Obadiah through Malachi lived during a tumultuous two hundred years of Israelite history. Their communities dealt with the crisis of the impending Assyrian threat in the eighth century and the Babylonian exile in the sixth, as well as the hopeful age of restoration in the late sixth and early fifth centuries. Intimately connected to the travails and needs of their communities, these prophets had the responsibility of bringing God's message of hope - even in the bleakest times - to their people. Their questions - Where is the God of justice and mercy? What is God up to these days? and What are we, in turn, to do? - are timely for our own church and society. William Brown offers readers a look at these important prophets and their message about where the God of justice and mercy is at work today.

These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) "Gospel Glimpses" highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) "Whole-Bible Connections" show how any given passage connects to the Bible's overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) "Theological Soundings" identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God's grace on every page of the Bible. The books of Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi contain messages to God's people who, after experiencing deliverance from exile, still struggled with doubt, discouragement, and despair in the Promised Land. The prophets called them to faith as they awaited an even greater deliverance yet to come. Through this 12-week study, readers will see the faithfulness of God as he restores his presence among his people through the temple—a foretaste of the promised Messiah, who is the true temple and ultimate fulfillment of God's promises. Part of the Knowing the Bible series.

Book Synopsis Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi by : Iain M. Duguid
Download or read book Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi written by Iain M. Duguid and published by EP BOOKS. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last three books of the Old Testament, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi, have not always received the attention they deserve from the church. This is in some ways surprising, since the Gospel writers quote Zechariah 9-14 more often than any other biblical source in explaining Christ's sufferings and death. The application sections show how the person and work of Christ are anticipated in these prophets. One reason for the tendency to neglect these three books lies in the fact that they address a community who were living in a day of small things, with little glory and no great triumphs to show off to a watching world. In a day like ours, which puts such a premium on charismatic leaders whose ministries exude glory and success, they may be viewed as something of an embarrassment. But if, like the apostle Paul, we are content to be broken vessels without glory in ourselves so that the glory of Christ crucified may be all the more plainly displayed, then we shall find much blessing in these books. In them, we shall read of the comfort and challenge that come from the presence of the living God in our midst, even when his glory is not on public display. In them, we shall also read of the anticipation of the day when the glory of God would come to earth in the person of Christ and bring about the long-promised salvation of his people.

Download or read book Malachi written by King James and published by Sublime Books. This book was released on 2019-06-15 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This keepsake edition of The Book of Malachi was taken from the King James translation of the Bible. The King James Translation is a masterwork of style, and the most important book in the English language, it has been the driving force in shaping the English-speaking world for hundreds of years. The Book of Malachi was written to correct the lax religious and social behaviour of the Israelites - particularly the priests - in post-exilic Jerusalem. Although the prophets urged the people of Judah and Israel to see their exile as punishment for failing to uphold their covenant with God, it was not long after they had been restored to the land and to Temple worship that the people's commitment to their God began, once again, to wane. The Book of Malachi is one of the shortest books in the bible and is sold at or near the publisher's cost and offered up for the collector who wished to have an unbroken set of this keepsake editions.
